I was looking at my copy of Final Fantasy 7 today and noticed a misprint on the back in the word masterpiece. The "i" seems to be floating above the word and is out of place.
Is this common on all of the copies?

For the orginal print run, I think so. I know that the orginal print run had that error.

So does that make it worth any more than the other versions?

probably not. Aside from the fact it isn't a GH version, it doesn't really make it worth any more, me thinks.

FF7 is already worth more than it should be. This is a $15 dollar game.

Anyway. The misprint really doesn't carry any extra value that I've noticed. I sold one a while ago being careful to make it clear that it was the misprinted version. It ended the same as the other original versions.
Maybe it will be different right now.

wtf O_O
just because an "i" is out of alignment makes this common as dirt game worth $50+

There's actually 4 total print runs of FF7.
The original with the I issue:

The reworked ESRB ratings:

The Greatest Hits

And the Greatest Hits Misprint

Sony's had a bad run of misprints and such...there are quite a few PSone releases that have mis-aligned inserts, typography errors, font errors, incorrect images, discs with forgotten color layers, wrong game on the wrong disc, wrong cd in the wrong case, improper spot colors, forgotten icons, and my all time favorite spelling error:

I'm actually playing through VII right now, I'll probably have a more unified error variant listing when I do the game page for it.

And I just realized I named the file wrong...

Are you all sure that the original print run had the misprint?
I still have my copy, which was bought on day one (actually a day before release because I preordered it), and it doesn't have a misprint, but is does have the "TEEN: Realistic Violence" ESRB rating.
Maybe the misprint was a regional thing? I'm in R.I if it helps.
EDIT: Upon furthur inspection it seems the second print run had the misprint. The game in the auction with the misplance "i" has the modified ESRB.

It's not the second print. I received my copy on September 3, 1997 from a EBgames in Massachusetts with the error so I really doubt it's a regional thing.

I also bought the game the very day it came out and I don't have the misprint.

Another launch copy with no mistake but original ESRB. I too got my copy the day of release.

Okay, now that we're back, let's get this organized so I can see if there's a variant I am missing.
We have:
a. FF7 Black - with Masterpiece error and Teen 13 ESRB (Comic Mischief, etc)
b. FF7 Black - withOUT Masterpiece error, Teen ESRB (Realistci Violence)
I'm thinking I simply swapped the masterpiece issue, but I just want to clarify.
If your non-GH version is different than that, let me know. I must have all variants >_>

So the packaging was done as poorly as the dialogue in the game?
