Ahhh yes the one you said, "Damn I shouldn't have done that!!!"
Well mine was a Sega Genesis (even tho I was a SNES head)...I loved it, but as soon as SF2 came out for Famicom I forgot about it. So the story goes like this...my friend imported the game, we played it non-stop. One day he tells me he is going to sell or trade it since he paid 120 for it and got tired of it.
Me being the jackass I was at a young age said "WAIT, lets trade for something I got". So he sees all my games doesnt really want any of em except like 2. Then he talks crazy and tells me to give him my genesis and we're good. I thought about it alot (2 min lol) and said TAKE IT!!!
Definetly the game wore off after abit, and I missed my genny soo much. Anyone else crap out like I did?

Back in 90 or 91... I sold all my NES games (about 20) and my NES to help pay for a Genesis... To this very day, I kick myself over that choice... I loved my nes... Bad thing is I sold my Genesis a few years later to buy a SNES... Which I don't regret... I loved my SNES too... But I will always miss my first NES...
Young and dumb... what can I say.

My very first Saturn. I had such a perfect mint US Collection. Sonic Jam, Saturn Bomberman, Fighter's Megamix, Sega Saturn Net Link (CIB), Sega Keyboard, Sega Mouse, offical Multitap, Resident Evil, Street Fighter Alpha 1 and 2, Darkstalkers: Nightwarrior's Revenge, Nights w/ 3D Controller, offical Saturn Memory Cart CIB, Virtua Fighter Kids, Virtua Fighter 2, VF Remix, Virtua Fighter, Robotica, Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3, Battle Arena Toshiden URA, Toshiden Remix, Clockwork Knight, Clockwork Knight 2, Panzer Dragoon, Panzer Dragoon Zwei, Fighting Vipers
To be honest, I have no clue why I wanted to sell this back in 1999. I'm pretty sure it was for a stupid reason at the time.

For me it was definitely TurboGrafx-16, although at the time I thought I was really smart to get rid of it when I did.
I sold my TG-16 and all my games and accesories in early August of 1991, in preperation of the arrival of the Super Nintendo. I had a Sega Genesis, and I was really into playing Genny games, and I was going to get a SNES, and I just figured that I probably wouldn't play my TG-16 anymore, and I might as well get some money out of it while I still can. That's what I was thinking.
I had a TG-16 base unit, a TurboBooster, a TurboTap and 5 Turbo Controllers. I also had a PC Engine adapter thing. I had about 10 games for it. I sold the whole package for like $185, which at the time was actually alot of money considering a TG-16 core system was selling for $99 brand new I think. I was very happy to get the $185 for all that stuff just before the SNES came out, it basically paid for my SNES, and allowed me to buy a bunch of SNES launch games like F-Zero and U.N. Squadron and Super Ghouls and Ghosts. Of course, I probably should have sold the PC Engine converter seperately, and I would have gotten more money for it, but I didn't know they were super valuable.
I didn't regret selling all that stuff at all, until I went retro in 2003, and I realized how much it costs to get a PC Engine converter thing.

I've regretted selling every video game item I have ever sold. I had to have money to pay for several medical emergencies my wife had during a very difficult pregnancy. Though I regret it, I would do it again. I loved those systems and games, but I love my wife and daughter most.

My dad sold my sega megadrive when i was really young. After 2 years i got everything back from the same person who my dad sold it too. ~2 years after that i sold the package to my neighbour who was searching for some entertainment. A year after i really missed all the sonic games and i bought it back again LOL

Definitely my NES way back in 1991. Me and my bro had about 100 games (some of which are pretty rare now) and a few accessories.

The only one I've sold... my 3DO and 30 or so boxed games.

It was not a system but instead two games the first being Ehrgeiz which is a great game I was in need of a new game at the time and did not even consider collecting then and the second was Intelligent Qube which I got rid of when I was young because I thought it was boring. Man I am an idiot I have yet to get replacements for either.
The Atari 2600 was the first console I sold and deeply regretted. The SEGA Master System and Genesis were the other two.
I've never sold a console or game since.

Where do I start....I've sold a Twin Famicom Boxed. As far as games, I sold Phantasy Star Collection and Panzer Dragoon Saga for the Saturn. I got rid of all my nes games to buy a newer system. I have all the mega man, dragon warriors, final fantasy, zelda gold carts, countless others all boxed.....Oh well....I have managed to get a bunch of them back lately from ebay.....don't ever think I'll pay what I see Panzer Dragoon Saga going for though :)

I traded my SNES in for a Sega Genesis. Later traded the Genesis in for something else...
Also sold my Atari 2600 and about 40 carts for $300 a couple years after that.
In a related theme, I had my Dreamcast stolen with a bunch of games in a burglary.
I replaced these systems years ago now, but they were regrets for a long time...
Later,

When my brother and I were young, our father bought us huge sets of games (plus a system each.) My brother got the NES plus a hundred games, and I got a SMS plus a pile of games, also.
Of course, while we got these, everyone else had a SNES, so we were (at the time) quite disgusted and unappreciative.
The systems and their games both ended up in the garbage a few months later. Boy, I sure regret it now that I collect :P

My Neo Geo Pocket Color. I sold it (with a complete Cardfighters' Clash) to finance buying an import Famicom Twin. While I don't regret getting the Famicom, I still have to ask myself: Why?
I'm still looking for another one, by the way.

My SNES and about 50 games that I gradually sold off in the late 90's. I sold a bunch of them in stores and the remaining ones in a garage sale. Not OMG-rare or highly valuable games (well, a few) but they were good games. I'm almost embarasted to say how much I sold them for. :)

I don't think that I have ever sold a console, but the first console that I ever gave away (and I think the only) was my Sega Genesis back in 1997. I wanted an Nintendo 64, but my parents would not let me have more than one system at a time, so I gave the Genesis to a former friend. I played it once or twice more at my friend's house, but then never saw it again. That was the first real system that I had ever owned, given to me by my cousin in 1993 for who-knows-why. I still do miss that first Genesis, even though I have since had it replaced.
Traded in my trusty Dreamcast and it's sizeable library in order to afford the just-launched swanky PS2.
I've more than made up for it now with a pair of Dreamcasts....one is brand new, and an even bigger games library for them. I've amassed enough brand new VMUs and controllers to last the next two lifetimes. I'll NEVER let those swirlies go again. There's something special about the Dreamcast that I've yet to find with any other console. Dunno what it is.....but it's something.

When I got my first Playstation I wasn't able to afford a game so I went to a private game store and traded my SNES and 4 games for Resident Evil. It really wasn't a bad deal at the time but it took me all of 2 weeks after I finished the game before I started missing my SNES.

Sold my NES, Mario 3 and the guide to the kid down the street for $50 in like 1994.
I regretted it so much so that i swore i'd never sell my Genesis system.
And i still have my Genesis (and another NES).

I was 9 when the SNES launched in 91, and desperately wanted to play the new Mario, as did my gamer mother. However, the times were rough and the recession had canned our families jobs, so the random gift wasn't happening. I ended up dumping off almost all of my NES collection to make the 200? or whatever it was the SNES cost at the time. I have fond memories of staying up all night playing SMW. However, as I grew older, I began to deeply regret everything I had sold, as ever since the struggle to find minty fresh "clean" copies of all the games I sold was less than easy. It did end up getting me back "into" games once I was old enough to work and quickly found myself getting into collecting. So in a way it all worked out in the end.

I regret selling my first Atari 2600. I picked it up from a thrift with about 10 games, 2 joysticks, and a pair of paddles for 99 cents. at the time I didn't care much for it (this was probably around 2000 - 2001) so I sold it off for a nice profit (over what I paid anyways, $20 :P). A few months later I regretted it, fortunately for me I came into another with about 40 games for $20. This time it was a 2600 Jr. so I decided to keep it. I played through all of the games and kept only the ones I liked, and sold the 20 or so I didn't like for $2 a piece, so it pretty much made me money and a free console in the end ;).

My friend has given me a hell of a lot of flack for selling off my copy of Virtual Pinball not once, not twice, but three times before finally keeping it.

Ahhh yes the one you said, "Damn I shouldn't have done that!!!"
My PC-Engine DUO R w. Turbo Tap + 85 games all in mint condition back in the fall of 2000. Amongst that package deal a lucky gamer I'd met in a gamer's chatroom on mIRC on the GalaxyNet server bought [chatroom = Gamer's Detritus] was my beloved NEC Avenue all girl Bosozoku BEU game set to 1950s music with a Japanese twist called Ane-San, but sold to me from Turbo Zone Direct as "Sister Yakuza". I hated having to get rid of that package deal, but at the time I needed the money to help my aunt with a costly surgery and I got a $500.00 money order within two days of us finalizing the deal. Even before I sold the whole shebang I was crying inside.

I got a C64, a C128, a bunch of floppy drives, a printer, and a few other accessories for $5 once at a yard sale. I gave them away because I didn't have room. Can't say I regretted it much, but I do sorta kick myself for it. But they really did take up a crapload of room!
The only time I truly regretted getting rid of something was when I sold about 20 NES games to pay for a massive phone bill when I was 14. Too many long distance calls to my best friend that had moved to Georgia, lol.
I vowed I'd get all those games back one day, and I did. I also vowed I'll never sell another game unless I have a duplicate.

I have had and sold all of them, but I really regret selling my Neo Geo's 2 AES's and the CD. I am getting the AES again, but right now I am starting my MVS collection, I have a 1f board and will be consolizing it soon (after tax return). But I really wish I never sold my AES, I purchased my first one back in 1991 or 92 when they were $700.00.X_x
I still have my PS2, Gamecube, Dreamcast, Saturn, Xbox, and have just started my TG16 up again. I got one 'broken' for a buck, the poor sap, the only problem was the rf modulator is broken, I have since done the av mod. I just purchased a generation 1 Genny and I cant wait to mod it too. All I need is a SNES and the new consoles. Wii and 360 first.

Never sold a system I could not replace, so no regrets here. Every system I sold has been while it was still in it's prime and I have always been able to buy it back for a lot less money. My PS1 for example, Sold in 99' for $75, bought another one this year for $25 w/ 2 controllers.

I sold an Intellivision system and a small library of games here on DP several years ago and wish I still had it. I never did get another INTV system.
Back in 2002 or 2003, when I was unemployed for a few months, I sold off my entire Saturn collection for $30. This was through a free classified listing in my local newspaper. I had most of the "common" games and a few others which added up to a decent library. 12 months ago, I ended up getting another Saturn and wanted to start over. I'm not that far from getting the rest of my old library back. I'm about 4 games away from getting back to where I was before selling my original Saturn.

before i started collecting everything in 1997 i sold off my TG-16 with 35 games or so for $70 this was probably in 1995 then 2 years later i contacted the guy (i knew him from the local trade center) i sold it to and asked if he still had the system and he did, but when i got there he told me his kid traded in most of the games at Funcoland and he only had 5 games left
i offered him $10 for it and he took it, when i sold it to him i kept the original box for it and i used it to store junk in it during the time i didnt have the system
im glad he kept the alien and devils crush pinball games and the Bonk adv game and i think the football and basketball games were the other 2, so it wasnt a total loss, now i have most of the games i had when i sold it off plus a few others
the system i dont regret selling is my 2 atari 5200 systems with 40 games
because i made double what i originally paid for it, plus i hated that system :)

I'm sorry I dismantled my old Coleco Telstar Arcade when I was a youngin. It was broken though and in the early 80s it was just obsolete junk. IIRC, it just needed a new clip to hold the cartridges in, but we had that new fangeled Atari thing, so who was going to use it anyway?
As for selling stuff, sometimes I get nostalgic and wish I still had everything. However, I sold what I sold to pay for kitty medical bills and have absolutely no regrets. The only consoles I really miss (Colecovision and TG16) I'm sure I could get again if I really wanted, but they'd just end up collecting dust.
I'm too nostalgic to sell my games or game systems. I have kept every one I've received going back to the NES and original Gameboy.

I sold my Turbo-grafx 16 to a kid in my geometry class back in high school. I only owned Keith Courage, Victory Run and Renegade (I think that was the name), and by that time, TG-16 software had dried up in stores. I thought the system sucked, so I sold it to him with the games for $50. At that time, I didn't know what I had, and I'm still trying to find one in the wild today...

I've sold LOTS of Atari 2600, ColecoVision, Genesis systems in the past to other gamers or people just looking to relive some games. But everything I sold were extras or games I didn't like.
One of my close friends in high school traded his entire ColecoVision collection (console plus about a dozen or so games...including a double ended Robin Hood/Sir Lancelot for an old beat up Sony Walkman LOL). Yeah he regrets it
I'm surprised here that no one had mentioned trading off a Vectrex. Perhaps too painful to admit LOL. Has anyone here ever got rid of something REALLY RARE like an Adventurevision without knowing it?

I think The first system I sold was my Master System. I sold the console and all my games for it (like 30 games), and I think it was just so I could buy more 16-bit games. At the time I didn't miss it that much, particularly because I had a friend with one, but I did later. I got a Master System again a few years ago, but I still don't quite have every game I had back then.
I'm not 100% sure if that was before or after I sold my Lynx. I sold my Lynx because it seemed like very few games were coming out for it and stores were starting to not carry it. I traded in my Lynx with several games to get a Game Gear. I was just a kid, so I didn't have the money to just buy a Game Gear outright, and I really wanted a portable system that wasn't dead (and I hated Game Boy). I didn't regret it that much, and I still have yet to get a Lynx again.
But the system I most regret selling was my Turbo Duo. When I sold it (along with dozens of games), the system and games weren't worth much - nothing was pricey except for like, Dracula X, Cotton, and Bonk 3. When I got a Duo again a couple years ago, everything was expensive.

Christ...where do I start.
My original NES...sort of. I had found an abandoned NES toaster in the trash, took it home, cleaned it up. Damn thing worked fine. I ended up selling the found unit, along with the rest of my games and accessories for $50 back in 97. I still have my original unit along with the pack in SMB/DH cart.

My N64. I had bought it from a friend with Perfect Dark, Banjo Kazooie/Tooie, Conker, and Goldeneye. Rare's greatest fucking hits. I ended up selling the lot for $70 when I was in dire need of money.
My DS lite with Tetris, Mario Kart, and Animal Crossing to my sister for $120...again when I needed the money badly.
My Atari Lynx. My cousin, who's since passed away, gave me his Lynx, with 9 games, the two official carry cases, and a couple of accessories. I was short on paying my tuition at college that semester and ended up ebaying the thing for something like $60 a couple of years ago. THAT one I wish I hadn't sold.
The one system I'm glad I got rid of was my boxed 5200 (used condom edition). I'd been lugging that damn thing around ever since I moved out of Chicago. Put it up in a lot of 2 2600jrs and a 4-switch 2600. I think I got about $25 for all 4.
...God I miss those days in Chicago. Every thrift in the city was like a buffet for classic goodness.

First I would have to say is my Jaguar. I had it boxed with a boxed Aliens Vs Predator game. Not the greatest system but still hurts. Wasn't a collector back then. Second would be my Vectrex. Technically I didn't sell it. It got tossed by my mom. The plastic seam came apart and it was duck taped together. Still worked perfectly though. Had a bunch of boxes and all the inlays for the dozen or so games I had. 3rd would be selling and NES or SNES games I used to upgrade. First it was selling NES games to get SNES games, then it was SNES games to get PSX games. Finally PSX games to get my gamecube system. Thats the last time I sold anything. I found my self rebuying stuff I once had since I started collecting stuff. Learned my lesson big time. One thing I am glad though is I never sold the original systems. I still have my original NES, and SNES though, I never sold them and am greatful I never did something about still owning a system that you grew up on that is just awesome.

Back i nthe mid 90's we had a SNES, but I always wanted a Genesis. So I bought one. in 1996 I bought a brand new Sega CD for $50 (Canadian!). And eventually got a 32X as well. Everything was brand new and awesome looking. I would polish the systems with ArmorAll and everything! I have a bunch of games for the three systems, all in mint condition, including the increasingly expensive Popful Mail for Sega CD.
When I went to college I left the stuff behind in my closet. I had no time or desire to play video games once I moved. I figured I didn't need them anymore, so I traded them to my friend for his Nintendo 64 and some games which I sold to my parents for $200. Idiot!
A couple years later at the most I decided I wanted a Genesis again. I found one, and found a Sega CD too. Thus I started collecting games again. Eventually, for some reason (maybe I needed the money, or the amount of space it took bothered me), I sold the Sega CD and games (but kept the Genesis).
This January, I decided I wanted to collect all that stuff again. So I've spent quite a lot of money over the last couple months buying stuff that I once had.
And though my collection is bigger than it ever was, it feels like something is missing because the systems I have weren't the original ones I bought that were knew and only ownded by me. Plus some of the games I had are worth a lot today. I have the three systems complete in their boxes now and the systems look perfect, but it's still not the same. And the friend I traded that stuff to doesn't have it anymore, otherwise I would have bought them back in a second.
When in doubt, don't sell your stuff! If you NEED to sell it, that's different, but if you think you won't play the games anymore, tuck them away and leave them for a long time. You might end up falling in love with them all over again.

I gave my SMS to a girlfriend in like 1990. I never took it back. I had an x keep a NES and like 50(unboxed) games when we broke up in 2002. Those are the major regrets. Then i regret selling every single system I ever had. Had everything, sold everything, bought everything over.

Sounds just like me, don't trade or sell your games and systems you'll regret it in the long run and buy everything again.

Never sold a game or system and damn proud of it ;)
I regret selling my genesis and first generation Sega CD back in the mid 1990's. I also sold about twenty complete Sega CD games with the system. I realize the Sega CD was not the greatest game system ever launched but for some reason I have a soft spot for that little system. I actually work with the mom of the guy I sold them to. The guy still has the systems and games. I asked his mom to ask him if I could buy them back. He refuses. It really kills me. He doesn't even play video games. They are sitting in storage. I want my games back.:2gunfire:

I've never sold any systems I've owned either. Only thing close really is my dad had a nice boxed 5200 and games but threw it all away without me knowing (we've rarely talked since I was 14). Wish I had that but I have another two 5200's to make up for it now. I let a friend borrow my Donkey Kong Country that I never got back.
On the other hand I have some friends that regret selling me their Turbo Express and Sega Genesis/CD/32x sets.

I remember my Father giving away both my NES consoles, one been a complete R.O.B set for free becasue I was into SNES at that time. I also remember selling my complete N64 with a couple of good *complete* games (Zelda, mario party 1,2,3 Mario Kart etc) I got most of them back a few years later but not nearly at the price I sold them at :/

The NES... Got it in the 80's sold it in the 90s after I got SNES, and then had to rebuy it at a GameExchange about 7 years ago. Won't sell it again. Promise. Unless it dies or somethin'. But now I have it working better than ever... no blinking or messed up screens... and I didn't even have to get a new 72-PIN... so I'm pretty happy about it.
*Both stories revolve around the NES*
When I was about 6 or 7, I had wanted an NES really bad. When I finally got one, I was able to collect all 6 Mega Man games, as well as a bunch of other classics on the side. However, when I was soon captivated by the N64, I traded in the system and all of the games to buy an N64 and about 2-3 games. Man did I regret that!
Several years later, I got another NES with a few games. Sadly, the NES barely worked, and so I was never able to play it that much. (I didn't know about replacing the pin connectors at that time.) So, I traded in the system and all the games again, however, this time, it was only for a few Playstation games. (They even said they had another NES in stock!) The next time I get an NES, (Which'll be soon and at the low price of free thanks to my aunt!) i'm keeping it!

I got rid of my Odyssey 2. It was my first system. I had a few rare games: killer bees, turtles, power lords(!). I also had the acrylic system holder and dust cover. I really think it was stupid decision for 3 major reason(s):
1.) My dad worked his ass off to get the system for me. He spent around $176 for the system itself in '1983 dollars. That was a fist full of cash for the time. The least I could have done is boxed it away. What I can say is the system did go to a home with kids who didn't have anything.
2.) The games that I did pay for are uber rare today. I could have made a benjamin or two. Power Lords was/is crap. From reading game magazines at the time I was expecting some sort of 3D adventure (from the way I interpreted the Coleco version advertisements.)
3.) The system - especially comparing it to others isn't half bad. Their are probably more games on it that I would pick up play versus other consoles. Especially compared to Virtual Boy, 3DO, Jaguar, N64. No, I'm not comparing Kc Munchkin to Ocarina of Time - but you get the idea. :)
I'm very sad to have gotten rid of it.

Never sold anything just traded. I regretted trading in my Snes at Funcoland to get a PS1. Got it back in 2002. I got a Snes 2 for 30 bucks at a pawn shop.
Regretted trading in some PS1 games at EBGames. Games like Ace Combat 2,3, RE2, and my original Tekken 2.
Im never trading anything ever again. Especially at EBgames.
