Will a Japanese Sega CD memory card save American games? I know someone that can sell one for cheap. I filed the slot in the console so it would fit. I just need to know if it will save American games.
Thanks in advance.

It should, the key here is going to be if the Japanese Mega Drive Back Up RAM cartridge is region locked or not - a very interesting question indeed.

Be great if it would, maybe some one could do some research on it.

I've done it, but I honestly don't remember if it works in US mode or not. My Genesis is modded for Japanese and US modes. I'm inclined to say it works in US mode, and even if it doesn't it's no big deal to mod most Genesises. At the very least, you'll have to widen the cartridge port depending on what kind of Genesis you have.

That's right, the SCD can't save directly to the RAM cart so it wouldn't matter if it had a region lock. You could just switch a modded system into JPN mode and shuttle saves back and forth from the internal memory.
The question still remains if the cartridge is region coded however.

Well I did some testing and it indeed works. You have to mod the Genesis to let the cart fit, file the slot or use a passthrough converter and I saved my games fine.
