View Full Version : Commando (NES) stage select-- How do you do it?

I am trying to recreate a bug in stage 4 of Commando (NES), and I'm hoping to use the stage select to get there. I can't get the "published" version to work. The last step say to hold A and Select on controller 1. When I do this, the game select icon scrolls until you let go of the button. Nothing else happens.

Here's the code I find everywhere, with identical wording:

" Stage Select: Play 1 game; select CONTINUE, then press
Right, Left, A, B, Up Down, on controller 2. Hold A & SELECT on
controller 1"

I even tried "activating" select (ie; playing the game) and running the code ingame. No dice.

Can anyone help me? Do you have to play past the first stage? Do they have the controllers reversed? Is there some assumption being made here that I don't understand?

I don't know the answer, but I hate old codes I can't get to work.

Free bump and somebody help this poor person!

The correct code is Left, Right, A, B, A, Down, Up. You enter this at the title screen on Controller 2, then hold A on Controller 1 and press SELECT on Controller 1 to make the level select appear. Hold A and press SELECT repeatedly to increment the level number.

You can get the level select to appear without playing the game first, but you have to play the game and run out of lives before you can take advantage of it, because you won't start at the level you chose unless you select "Cont." instead of "1 Player".

Yay!

I'm off to try it now.

Thanks!
