I found a thread on removing markers from carts (like Sharpies and stuff) but not CDs. I just bought a cache of CDs but a lot of them have a huge X across their label, and it ticks me off.

Is there a way to remove these without damaging the printed side of the CD? Any suggestions?

Denatured alcohol or even 90% alcohol from Walmart will take it off easy.

Denatured alcohol or even 90% alcohol from Walmart will take it off easy.

90% what alcohol? Ethylic? Isopropyl? :)

Sorry, it's just they're not labeled as 'alcohol' down here and it's easy to make a mistake. :)

Oh sorry. 90% Isopropyl.

I've had decent luck with the eraser I got with a bunch of 'reusable' labels. The labels are a vinyl stock, and the kit comes with a thin sharpie for writing on the label, and the eraser is used to remove the writing when done.

I haven't stumbled upon those kinds of markers down here.

I'll try the alcohol once I can get my hands on a bottle. Thank you both. :)

What I found works best is to get one of those CD cleaners, the ones where you put a dab of alcohol on a pad and spin it around, but instead of placing it label side down, place it label side up and spin it around. It will blacken the cleaning pad, but it cleans marker off of DVDs and CDs in seconds!

Here is a link to a picture of what I am talking about. It was one of the first results on google, I have no idea if that place is good to buy from, or not. http://www.computercleanusa.com/products/getprod.asp?product_id=51000

I've tried a regular pencil eraser (not recommended). Sometimes the marker comes off.

It worked great for me on cartridges though...
