Major, unannounced, franchise coming to XBLA next week

In total, more than 100 pieces of new downloadable content will be available to gamers during the nine day period, including a never before announced major franchise on Xbox Live Arcade.

Looks like MS is keeping up with the same awsome coverage they gave us at E3 and uploading a massive amount of videos and some demos for TGS and X06. But the big news is what is this mysterious major franchise coming to XBLA?

Right now my possible candidates are Marathon or Metal Slug.

Any one else got some good ideas?

If they put up any game from the Marathon franchise it would be the coolest thing ever due to whatever online capabilities they add to it along with having achievements/etc. to go along with the experience. It's a shame so few people know about those games. Their story/etc. blows away the Halo series if you ask me. They hold up today easily.

THAT SAID, Bungie made the Marathon series free for quite some time, you can download the games off their website and even get some extra utilities to play the oldest one on a PC instead of Mac, etc. My money's on either UMK3, arcade Contra, or Lumines.

Unless they mean an entirely new game, an original franchise they're starting.

Tomorrow's within the one week period, though Lumines was already announced so you're most likely correct.

With that in mind my money's on Sonic the Hedgehog. It wouldn't be a world with Sega in it without the original Sonic the Hedgehog ported onto every platform known to man.

I'll put in my two cents. I'm going to say it could be a Bomberman game. After all the bad press Act Zero got and all the fans saying they would love to see classic Bman on XBLA, who knows, maybe Hudson is going to answer them.

Doubtful, but an idea...

Anyone know how long it would take for a company to take an old game (i.e. in this case maybe Saturn Bomberman or Super Bomberman) and make it compatible with the 360 and only adding a couple small changes for the 360 (achievements, online play)? I mean, lets say Hudson got the idea about 3 weeks ago, could they get a game like that done and ready in 3 weeks?

You're not alone in that. Konami, SNK and Capcom did a great job at realizing that the NES could never have the graphics/sound of their games' arcade counterparts, so they took them in totally new directions. Contra is one of the few cases where the NES port is just outright better. Frankly I enjoy the NES mixes of the music much more than the arcade version well (though I kind of wish the Energy Zone song wasn't cut in half, even if the NES version ROCKS OUT for an NES game of its time).
