OK, I'm stumped. Can anyone identify this wooden box? A customer brought this into the store and is interested in selling it. I've never seen one before.

I've only seen one of these in my entire life, it was in the house of a friend several years ago who used to live near me here in Jersey. Maybe that's the same one. LOL

I THINK it's homemade.

This is frustrating because when I saw it, he told me everything about it. I completely forgot everything I was told though. :p

You guys don't remember the 1990 Nintendo Power Catalog that everyone has made a parody out of? (Remember the CastleVania 2 picture? and the kids are looking at each other? too funny...)

Anywho...

That chest was released with many matching sets back in 1988 as part of the "Mario Mania" wave. Matching bedsheets, curtains, cups, toothbrushes, party supplies, ice cream, candy bars, etc. etc. MERCHANDISING! Mario the Lunch Box! Mario the Doll! "MAMA MIA"! Adorable....and MARIO THE FLAME THROWER!! Wooooo!....the kids love this one...

I remember reading about these some where before and then I went to a store that a guy that usally sets up at fleamarkets(and he is a total d-bag) and I was looking to see what he had. It was pretty good for just opening but I was looking at games and my dad asked me whats that white nintendo box. So he points and it was one of those. I really wanted to beat him up and steal some stuff from the store(like the giant mario neon sign) but I'm sure I could buy it off him.

These are not that easy to find, but they do show up around once a month on eBay. Here's the last one that ended at $19.99 on eBay.com:

I have one of those boxes. I bought it at a flea market a couple years ago. I think it got it for $5 or $10 (I can't remember). I also believe the vender was selling one with big time wrestling guys on it.

Neat, yes. But I'd say only buy it if you can get it for cheap.

lol ye, thats exactly why i thought it was homemade. I would think Nintendo (if this box is even official) would have made more "cute" artwork. Now Mario looks kinda evil LOL

Yeah, in the earlier years Mario didn't always look like the nice guy ;)

Here's another item where Mario doesn't look all that happy (I think you've seen this one before, tho):

I use to have one of these when I was like 5. Got it for my birthday. God knows what happened to it but I used it as a toy chest.

My cousin also had a Turtles one, but different than the one 50TBRD has. I'll find out if he still has it.

I have one. Paid $2 for it at a garage sale a few weeks ago. I don't think it is approved of by Nintendo, but the same company that made this box made more with everything that was popular back then. My sisters both had New Kids on the Block versions and I've seen Teenage mutant Ninja Turtles and Cabbage patch kids ones.
