Well I finally have an SNES. Back in my early teens we could never really afford one so I had to make due with spending the night at every friend or cousins house that had one available. After getting really into collecting this past year (thanks DP) I have been steadily increasing my collection of consoles and games, knowing in that back of my mind that a SNES would be necessary but never finding that right opportunity to snag one. Well, it pays to let your co-workers be aware of your hobbies.

A co-worker e-mailed me saying he had an SNES with some games and the hookups and said I could have them, he was just cleaning out some things. I imagined some carts in a box and a hopefully functioning system. Of course I said yes, regardless of what was in the box.

Well The SNES is only yellowed right around the control ports and functions wonderfully. Also all but 2 games (out of about 12) Are in the original boxes which are in wonderful like-new condition and also include the instruction books. So now I am the happy owner of another reason to buy more games.

Anyone else late in getting a console that they wanted when younger, what do you do when you get it?

welcome, welcome...

snes is one of my favorite systems ever!

less than mainstream games id personally reccommend are rock n roll racing and shadowrun. a lot of folks think these aged poorly, but they were my favs from when i had the system when i was younger, so im kind of nostalgic for them. theyre a bit obscure, but id buy em if you see em.

there are TONS of good games for the system, and most are pretty easily acquired. im sure others will ring in with their personal recommendations.

what would i do if i just got an SNES? go shopping for more games, naturally...

Congrats on your first SNES... it's probably my second-favorite console out there.

Good, mostly easy to find games for the SNES:

Actraiser
Pocky & Rocky
Zombies ate my Neighbors
Twisted Tale of Spike Mcfang
R-Type 3
Super Castlevania 4
Tetris Attack
TMNT 4: Turtles in Time
Super Ghouls 'N Ghosts - Overrated in difficulty but tough.
Super Metroid

Go get yourself a copy of Illusion of Gaia, my all time favorite game period. :) Also Chrono Trigger (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=260034908024) is superb, wink wink.

The one game system I always wanted that took me awhile to get was the TurboDuo. When I got a real job the first console I bought was the PS2 (because it was released within the year) but then I plunked down just as much money to buy a used TurboDuo and a few games in an eBay lot.

Rock n' Roll Racing and Tetris Attack seconded, and I raise you Super Mario All-Stars, Kirby Super Star and the Donkey Kong Country games.

Super Bomberman 2 is a great multiplayer game, just to throw that in.

Congrats, enjoy the system... it should be easy to :)

Was a owner and fan from 92 to about 98/99 til we gave it to our little cousins.

1.17.06 finally got back into it and did so in a big way. The are literally HUNDREDS of decent to great games worth owning.

Thanks for all the suggestions, it is a bit of an overwhelming system to get started into with so many great titles.

Super Metroid, and Castlevania are musts for me, I will have to read up on all the other great titles being mentioned.

Thanks so much for a bit of direction.

It's a great system and I'm sure you'll be pleased with it. There are a ton of stunning games that still kick it today and don't cost that much. The best games on the system will cost you between $8-30 and aren't out there in small quantities so it shouldn't be difficult to get your hands on them.

Nice acquisition. I'm also a recent convert to the SNES, having purchased one at Goodwill for $10. Enjoying the hell outta Donkey Kong Country, even though I messed up the save file on it and can't get past the octopi stage. TMNT 4: Turtles In Time, Super Baseball Simulator 1.000, and Super Mario All-Stars are winners as well. Looking forward to rockin' The Legend Of Zelda: A Link To The Past and Super Mario Kart very soon.

Letting your coworkers know about your hobby has paid off for me too - one guy here gave me both his C64 (which I didn't have at the time) and his NES (which I did, but extras are always welcome) as well as an old PC, all on different occasions.

They think they're taking advantage of you by getting rid of junk. You, of course, drool at the idea of getting some cool stuff, even if it's dupes, free! After all, those dupes can be traded for something you *don't* have :)

What 12 games did you get? I want a SNES, but I've got to save up a bit more, so hard when I keep buying old PSX games.

I wanted an Atari 5200 when I was young and never got it. Picked it up a few years ago played it a bit, liked it then became all to familiar with the god awful misfunction controllers...have yet to spend the money on a Wico or upgraded controller...

Later,

One game I really want to play I remember playing on an emulator years ago was a 2d sidescrolling run and gun platformer where you were in a Mech (giant robot) you had several different weapons and I think you could get out of the mech (tiny dude). Does anyone know what game this is? Thanks For any help.

The Games that came with it-

Complete
Star Trek: Future Past
Super Empire Strikes Back
Jungle Book
Mickey Mania
Aladdin
Lion King
Donkey Kong Country 2
Toy Story

Cart Only
Donkey Kong Country/w manual
Zombies Ate My Neighbors

Actually only 10 games. I am at work right now and that is all I can recall.

I still love Actraiser, Pilotwings, SMW, RnR Racing and Mario Kart (best version ever, IMHO). In college we used to get a bunch of people together with a multi-tap and play Bomberman.

Nice find with the SNES, so many excellent titles. I'd suggest getting any or all the bomberman titles with a multitap. Kirby's dream course is an addictive title, SMW is a must. The secret of mana is an awesome RPG imho,

I always wanted a 3DO, didnt get one til last year
