I saw this virtua fighter in a jewel case, and bought it because i dont recall having seen any game released in a standard jewel for the saturn. i admit my saturn knowledge is quite limited, so i figured id tap the fantastic knowledge of the folks on these boards, as i often do. please enlighten me!

this is a typical NFR disk, but the front insert folds out into a poster on one side and moves list on the other. has US logo and says 'made and printed in the u.s.a.' below the bar code, which makes me wonder if this is a swapped disc. why the bar code for an NFR game?
was this just packed with an early system or some other multi game pack?

That Virtua Fighter is probably either a Saturn system pack-in or part of that 3-game combo pack...maybe?

I'd like to get a copy of Virtua Fighter.

FYI: FTP means File Transfer Protocol, so ftp.segaoa.com would be a Sega of America file storage site.

I checked my pack-in copy of Virtua Fighter Remix and it doesn't have a barcode on the back. The three pack of Saturn pack-in titles (Virtua Fighter 2, Daytona USA, Virtua Cop) all came in cardboard sleeves. The only thing I can think of is possibly it was a seperate promotional external pack-in from a bundle that had to be scanned at Point Of Sale for inventory? An example of this is things like "free" bobbleheads and whatnot that still have to be scanned (and come up as $0.01) just so the store knows that they left the supply chain properly.

Thats just the original pack in disk for the saturn, mine came with that version when I purchased it shortly after release.

Yeah, I kind of remember this... you could buy a Saturn with no pack in for $400 or with VF packed in for $430... something like that. This is the pack-in game... you could also buy it seperately in a full-size case.

I have the same thing and prefer the long boxed instead. I think it was either the pack-in like fishsandwich said or a handout as InsaneDavid said. I doubt it was a sale item on the shelf because it says: "Not for Resale". They might have had jewel cased releases of it just as I've seen a Contra with manual and casing just like that. The barcode on the back must have been for tracking purposes, like a slice in the Saturn box to be scanned or were handed out at the register. I wish I was in line to recieve a Sega Saturn at launch. :(

It was the pack in for the original US oval button Saturn retailing for $399. I actually got that mini poster framed.

I've never come across a long box version. I don't think there was much interest in the port considering VF Remix was released a few months after the US launch (for free to Saturn owners that registered with Sega) and VF 2 came out a few months after that (December 1st I think).

Hope this helps!
