That's awesome. Now they need Amiga.

Actually, they still need SMS. What is up with that system not being on Virtual Console? They already have Genesis, so it would be trivial to add SMS compatibility.

Ok, SNK where are you? This is awsome. Emulators have been around for a long, long, time. Now is the time to show game companies that we give a crap about the "old games". If the price is right, then count me in. I am not going to pay for any game, but definatey the must haves. I traded all of my C64 stuff off...now I can play it again without the workout of heavy computer stuff! Component video on a nice TV will help as well...

HOLY F(*#ing SH*T !!! - i was only remotely interested in the wii (becasue of this vitual console thing) but now it may be the first console I get from this new generation of systems -- but this will only happen if games other than whats on the c64 plug-n-play device become available - damn this news made my morning (just as i was thinking about C64 stuff)

Hell is begining to freeze over - it was going to be a cold day in hell when i would be buying a nintendo system As the first in a next gen purchase.

This can all change - depending on what the other companes do

There's no such thing as Epyx anymore. Methinks you mean to say "System 3".

(I say, why Jumpman Junior and not the full Jumpman?)

They've got to get ahold of Infogrames and get the rights to the Atari catalog before they go under. I want to play MULE, dammit! And warlords. And Yars' Revenge.

C64 and MSX? Sounding better by the day, but only if the games arrive at a steady pace. I hope Nintendo is keeping an eye on Microsoft and taking notes.

Am looking forward to seeing Temple of Apshai and Summer Games on the Wii. About time they show the kids what real games are like.

C64 Impossible Mission? Sweet.

Hopefully, Paradroid won't be far behind. And I would rather play C64-based versions of Archon, Ultima III/IV/V, and M.U.L.E. than NES-based versions any day of the week.

The PC versions of the Bard's Tale games was included with the PC version of the recent Bard's Tale remake. (You may also enjoy Devil Whiskey (http://www.gamespot.com/pc/rpg/devilwhiskey/index.html), a remake more in line with the older games.)

As for the SSI Gold Box games, you can buy those easily:

Adding Turbographx-16 games to the virtual console was nice, adding the Commodore 64 games now is great, but man, if they ever add Amiga games to it, it would be awesome!

Whichever company adds Amiga games to their system (the crack team intros are compulsary of course) will have my unconditional loyalty for the rest of this gaming generation :D

I hope if they do bring the commodore games they will be in its entirety. I bought the tv stick 20 in 1 commodore versions and they are trim down versions missings some features.

thats great, Commodore was a great system back in the day. if they only could release Amiga on Wii somehow, that would be something insane!
playing all those classics on your tv, - Superfrog, Soccer Kid, Brian the Lion, Lotus, Moonstone, Cannon Fodder, Litil Divil, Roadkill, Shadow Fighter, Pinball Illusion, Slamtilt, Kid Chaos. Diggers, ....and the list goes and on and on.......
I would pay hundreds to play these games on my tv, without pc involved(emulation still isnt perfect, there are still games incompatible).

A couple of those were released on the SNES, at least.

Well wouldn't you like to know? While browsing around on Wikipedia, I found an interesting bit of news:

While the gameplay will be the same for all of the retro titles offered via the Virtual Console, Nintendo has stated that some of the games may be improved with sharper graphics or better framerates.[4] In addition, gamers may be able to download games that were not previously released in their region, and some multiplayer games may be playable online, if it is technically possible.[5] The Virtual Console service will not be used exclusively for retro games, however. Satoru Iwata stated in a speech on March 23, 2006, that Nintendo, Sega and Hudson Soft are working in collaboration to bring a "best of" series of games to the Wii.[6] At E3, Hudson also declared they would bring upwards of 100 titles to the Wii's virtual console. Additionally, Hudson mentioned that all of their lawyers are working on acquiring the licenses to games from now defunct companies.[7]

It is currently not known how third-party game developers will be included in this, though it is certain that some will be. The third-party developers may possibly offer their games at different prices. It was later supposedly confirmed by Craig Harris of IGN that Rareware titles would not be available to download due to Rare's current licensing (with the exception of the Donkey Kong and Star Fox games, as they are based on characters Nintendo owns), but neither Rareware nor Microsoft has confirmed this. [8] SNK Playmore has recently announced intentions to help support the Wii Virtual Console by releasing Samurai Shodown series and a few other games to the VC.[5] Tecmo has also announced they plan to "aggressively" support the VC by releasing classic games such as Ninja Gaiden, Rygar, and Tecmo Super Bowl. [6] Midway also plan to bring classic Mortal Kombat games to the VC.[7] Some game companies such as 3D Realms and id Software said they will not be supporting the Wii or the VC due to the poor sales of their games on the Nintendo systems (i.e. Doom 64 and Max Payne for the GBA.) [citation needed] At E3 2006's Wii Conference, a Virtual Console demo was shown with the following games being downloaded: The Legend of Zelda, Excitebike, Punch-Out!!, F-Zero, Super Metroid, Super Mario Kart, Mario Kart 64, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Super Mario 64, and Wave Race 64.[citation needed] Whether these games will be available for downloading remains to be seen.

Unnamed Nintendo employees have reportedly speculated that licensing issues will be a predominant factor in determining whether a game is available for Virtual Console,[9] giving the examples of GoldenEye 007 and Tetris as games that might be too expensive to license for the Virtual Console.

Of classic non-Nintendo consoles offering content, the entire catalog for these machines will probably not be offered, but the "best of them" will be available.[6] This gives the companies a pool of over 200 Sega games to choose from. There are widespread rumors surfacing on the internet which speculate that there will be Neo Geo, Sega Saturn, Sega Dreamcast , Game Boy and Commodore Amiga games on the service. [10]

It has also been revealed that new games are in development for the Virtual Console.
