Tell us all about the arcades by you....if there are any (wow, they're not extinct yet!)

1. Cyberstation
How Far?: About 5 minutes
Good games?: DDRMAX2, Galaga, Ms. Pac-Man, Tekken 4, Tekken Tag, Virtua Tennis
I LOVE this place. Thanks to DDRMAX2 I know most of the regulars...well, the DDR regulars, anyway. I don't know too many of the Tekken and Time Crisis people. The only bad part is that they got rid of their House of the Dead 2 and Mars Matrix machines. Ah well.

2. Rev'd Up
How Far?: 20 minutes
Good games?: Um...Tekken 4, CvS2, Virtua Fighter 4, a crab-ass DDR 3rd Mix
Terrible service, all the games have low volume, the DDR machine has no bass and a screwy monitor...they used to have House of the Dead 1 and Pump it Up but not anymore! AAAAH! And there isn't even any decent CvS2 competition. Ooh, Ryu, Ken and Akuma. What an original team.

3. Nickel World
How Far?: Half an hour
Good games?: Pac-Man, Donkey Kong, Donkey Kong Jr., Mappy, Scramble, Terra Cresta, Moon Patrol, The Simpsons, CarnEvil, DBZ Super Battle 2
The DBZ game is on a NEO GEO SIT-DOWN ARCADE MACHINE. All the games I listed except for the last 4 are on free play. Needless to say, I go here when I can.

4. Cyberstation #2
How Far?: Half an hour
Good games?: DDR 5th Mix, MvC 2, Tekken 4
5TH MIX. 50 CENTS FOR 4 SONGS. HUGE CROWDS. Why bother with the other games?

There is a Wal-Mart super center with a large, oversized arcade booth of the Deep Space Nine shooting arcade game. Some other racing game is there.

Store's about 15 minutes away from where I live.

1: Truck Stop
Games: Ms. Pac-man(turbo), Galaga, Outrunner, DDR 5th mix and DDR2 8th mix(?), Centipede, Bust A Move, Silent Scope, Die Hard Arcade, and a few others.

2: Wizzards Arcade
Games: Ultracade, King of Fighters 2002, Capcom vs SNK 2, Marvel vs Capcom 2, Metal Slug 4, Puzzle Fighter, Ms. Pac-man/Pac-Man, Tekken 4, Soul Caliber 2, Air Hockey, Die Hard Arcade, Area 51, and some others.

3: Red Baron
Games: to be honest, I haven't been there in a while...I know they have DDR and Galaga though.

Also noteworthy is the gameworks and the Dave & Busters, although neither are exactly close to where I live..hell even wizzards is a stretch.

In town: bowling alley has a Neo-Geo, Harley Davidson pinball, Golden Tee golf, and a couple hunting and off-road racing games.

A couple random games in Wal-Mart

Super K-Mart (20 miles south) had an arcade last time I looked...not much there...Pinbot, Demolition Derby, Thunder Blade cockpit.

Next closest I can think of are Dave & Busters or Gameworks in Columbus.

There's quite a few around here, especially with retro games. I favor Pacman, so that tends to be what I remember most (as my list attests). It seems everywhere I turn, there's a few odd arcade machines popping up somewhere. But there's only a couple "legit" arcades...

1) Pojos--I think this is a national chain? Not sure. Has a nickel arcade with Pacman, Bubble bobble, bomberman, Simpsons, and Roadblasters to name a few. Best arcade in town. 10 min. drive.

2) Boondocks--Another chain? Lots of newer style games. More a "family fun center" than arcade though. 15 min. drive.

3) Student Union-- Small, but good mix of old, new, and pinball. A couple of Neo Geo machines too. My personal favorite is Ms. Pacman and Bubble Bobble.

4) Movie Theatre arcade (can't remember name)--mostly new, but a couple of older games. Lots of nw ones though.

5) Walmart--Crap. Only a couple of those redneck hunting games.

6) Lots & lots of restaurants & coffee shops-- Ms. Pacman and Pacman galore! There seem to be new ones every now and then. Just found a coffee shop not a 1/4 mile from my house that installed Ms. Pacman this week! Woo hoo. :)

Arcades? Like... Multiple? Ha!

OK, first of guys, Walmart's 3 beat up "things", is NOT an arcade, don't even mention it as such again. Seriously.

I have a Space Center about 10 minutes away that is decrepid, there's no DDR machine, which is the only reason I went, it's the single most pathetic excuse for building space I've ever seen, everything is broken, and the employees all run around playing with themselves (take that how you want to)

I have Funspot about 45 minutes away. This is where all the national championships are held, and where twin galaxies goes for the records. so Iguess I can't complain, although I haven't been there in about 10-15 years. Just have no use to go to an arcade.

There are two (2) in the Phoenix area. Castles & Coasters and GameWorks. C&C is in Phoenix and GW is in Tempe.

Here's a list of classic games at C&C (which I frequent about 3 times a month).

1942, Arm Wrestling , Asteroids , Centipede , Defender , Donkey Kong , Dragon's Lair II: Time Warp , Galaga (fast shoot) , Ghouls 'n Ghosts , Gyruss , Ironman Ivan Stewart's Super Off Road , Joust , Kung-Fu Master , Mercs , Millipede , Moon Patrol , Ms. Pac-Man , Pac-Man , Pole Position , Robotron: 2084 , Smash TV , Star Wars , Stargate , Super Hang-On , Tempest , Tetris , Tron , Vs. Duck Hunt , Vs. Hogan's Alley

Here are a list of classics at GW:

Asteroids , Carnival , Centipede , Donkey Kong , Frogger , Gorf , Mario Bros. , Pac-Man , Tetris , Tron

Both arcades have tons of the newer games too, but they hold little or no interest for me (hence why I haven't listed them). :)

Geez, what an idiot I am...I forgot to mention the arcade in the very building I work. COSI in Columbus, Ohio has recently redone it's arcade...took out the newer stuff, now mostly old systems. Pac-Man, Joust, sit down Outrun, Night Driver cockpit...a couple of them are emulated (Asteroids comes to mind). Best of all, all the games are on free play!! Worst of all, the kids today have no respect for the equipment, and at least one machine gets destroyed almost every day... >:( >:(

I'll try and get pics up soon...it's really cool.

This is the latest report from my local arcade, it's a block and a half fom my office.

TIMES SQ. DRAGNET

By LARRY CELONA, JENNIFER GOULD and WILLIAM J. GORTA
------------------------------------------------------------------------

March 11, 2003 --

Cops were questioning two more suspects yesterday in the Times Square shooting and stabbing frenzy that left 10 injured over the weekend, sources told The Post.

Investigators are leaning toward the theory two cohorts opened fire in the crowded Broadway City Arcade, capping a blood feud with its roots in the projects in the Rockaways.

Four men in all are being questioned: two alleged gunmen, one alleged stabber and a man thought to be an accomplice of one of the shooters.

Police are stepping up patrols around the Edgemere Houses, hoping to stave off additional violence in the long-standing quarrel.

Sunday's mayhem was not the first violent eruption at Broadway City, at 241 W. 42nd. St.

Maurice Brown was stabbed several times in the abdomen by one man and suffered disfiguring knife wounds to his nose at the hands of another inside the club in September, according to Brown's lawyer, Elliot Taub.

Police confirmed there was one stabbing last year and said the arcade was cited several times for liquor-law violations.

The building that houses the arcade is the 42nd Street Development Project, a sub-unit of Empire State Development, a state agency.

Alex Dudley said the Broadway City Arcade is a subtenant of its lessee, Dream Team Associates, which has a 49-year lease on the property.

"We will work with our tenant to make sure security is as good as it can be and we want to ensure the revitalized reputation of 42nd Street doesn't suffer a blow," Dudley said.

A message left at Dream Team's number last night was not returned.

Six victims remained hospitalized yesterday: two in critical condition and two in serious condition at Bellevue, and two in stable condition at St. Vincents.

Antonise Branch, whose sister Taryn was taken to St. Vincents after being shot in both legs, said - despite police protestations to the contrary - that the violence was gang-related.

Antonise, who was holding Taryn's hand when the first shot was fired, said the mellow reggae music had just changed to raucous rap when Bloods gang members began to taunt their rivals by shouting, "blat, blat" - simulating the sound of bullets flying at them.

"I loved going there every Saturday night, but I'll never go again," Taryn told The Post from her bedside. "I love to dance but I will never go to any club again. I don't want to experience another bullet in my leg or anywhere else. I'm too afraid. I never want to get shot again."

There's a Game Works about 15-20 mins away. All the newer Sega, Namco expensive to play simulators. A few chopped down classics, Frogger, Centipede, Tron. Sucky wanna-be-bar atmosphere. Stupid rechargable credit cards you swipe. Most of the games are the usual fighting, light-gun, racing crap. A few Sega pinballs. Sega pinball sucks.

Dave and Busters about 20 minutes away. I went there once.

Marvins arcade, about 45 mins away. www.marvin3m.com Cool atmosphere, great mix on new and classic games and several cool pinballs.

Wizzards, about an 45 mins-hour away. I never go there cause I don't feel like getting shot or having my car stolen.

A lot of bowling alleys have a bunch of games and pinballs but I don't bowl so I don't step foot in them to find out.

If you are ever in Madison, WI, Madtown, check out AFTERSHOCK--a classic game arcade!!
When I went to school there 5-8 years ago, there were several arcades with tons of great games (old-school and then new)--a 2-D arcade player's dream. All gone. The unions have some scraps left over. Man, I'm getting old. The guy who owns Aftershock is younger than my 28-year old ass! X_x
Anyway, check out Aftershock's website:
