Why did sony not do this it would have probably helped some

So check it. Why did sony not try to make the PS3 play UMD movies I mean granted the fact very few people use UMD but they are out there and nobody really wants them if they only work on a PSP I mean if they did that then a couple more people may buy PS3's and they can use a few more buyers especially at its high pricetag. Anyways it was just a thought

First and foremost, very little use would be made of it. On top of them having nothing to gain from it, UMD qaulity would look like crap on a TV. Seriously, just look at the PSP game commercials; they scale down the clips of the game to about a tenth of the screen size because they would look bad if blown up.

Might the PS3 eventually be able to play UMD's through the wireless connection to the PS3? Besides UMD's have not been that hot an item...Blu-Ray DVD is a much more lucrative endeavour.

UMD movies are already taken off the marked because it wasnt popular enough. Including a UMD player in the PS3 would just had been another expence for Sony + the quality isnt that good on TV as mentioned above.
