View Full Version : AtariAge for the NES
Hey guys,
Me and some other collectors have been putting together a site for the NES, based on the idea behind AtariAge. I've always been a huge fan of AtariAge, and had always wished for something for the NES-crazed folks out there (like me) that was even remotely close to it.
That said, I just wanted to invite you all to take a gander at what I hope is eventually to the NES as AtariAge is to Atari :) It's still very early in its development, but we've got a decent amount of info already and plenty more to come.

Looks great and seems to be coming along nicely. My only beef is with the name. I don't know if it's rippin' on Atariage or flattering them, but, either way, it's not very NES-centric.
It's been bookmarked for a couple weeks now already ;)

Looks like a good site so far.
I would, however, like to suggest that you try to list the value of certain games when they sell on eBay; unlicensed ones, in particular, which don't pop up that often. :)

Long story short, I had the domain name around 5 years ago, didn't do anything with it, someone came in and renewed it before I could, he didn't do anything with it, gave it back to me, and now I've got it again :) I'll be the first one to agree that the name seems a bit counterintuitive, but I just like the sound of it. That, and NESAge.com is taken.
Like I said in the original post, I'm a huge fan of AtariAge -- in no way would I rip on that site, as I think they put in serious effort and have done a remarkable job. Kudos to AtariAge -- to be sure, they were the inspiration behind NintendoAGE.
Kitsune Sniper,
Take a look at this thread:

There are some nifty tools coming that will give very realistic pricing and rarity.

Site is great to use. I've been using it quite a bit lately. Great place if you are looking for scans of carts, boxes, manuals, variants, pirates, PAL games, or whatever else. Also, if anybody has anything you see needs to be added, make sure to let Dain know so he can :) The more info on there the better for us collectors!
I'm in.
Even my avatar on NintendoAge looks like me. :D 8-) LOL
Are the manual scans available over there yet? I cant find them, even using the search engine.

Sit elooks great and I bookmarked it! The rarity ratings need some work though, why not combine what you know of DP's with your own research?

Check out this thread for the answer to that:
http://www.nintendoage.com/forum/messageview.cfm?catid=4&threadid=10&enterthread=y
I also know that the rarity listing is still being worked on right now. I'm sure that once everything gets put in (i.e. all the PAL games and variations) then we can work on the rest of the rarities that aren't in the right place.

Some of them are. Check out BB2. Underneath the cart scan it should say "View Manual". He's still working on uploading more as we speak ;)

Erm, AtariAge directly ripped off their name from Atari Age magazine. Like, if Dain was to name his site "NintendoPower.com" :/
IMO the name NintendoAge isn't ripping off anyone.

Hey Dain,
Nice site..welcome to the databasing community.
Got a question about your cataloging of NOE carts as being "Europe" Most everywhere I've checked they are accepted as being German.
Anyhow, good luck, if VGRebirth can help out at all shoot me a PM.

I think it's amazing what Dain has done with the infrastructure of the database. The fact that it's capable of handling all kinds of regional and other types of variations is something that really sets it apart from any previous NES database IMO (and the timing could'nt have been better with the many NES variation collectors out there as of late). Add to that the various other neat features + its user-friendly interface, and I'm certain the site will grow to be something big ;)
Keep up the good work man!!

To answer your question about NOE -- many/most of the games were released in Germany, but that's not absolute from what I've found. To keep it simple, I decided to use it as-is, Nintendo of Europe.
There's likley going to be minor changes here and there with things like that, and with the data model I'm using it'll be pretty simple to do.
Again, thanks everyone -- I hope to see you all there from time to time.

Sweet site. I'll look forward to checking it out in more detail later. Impressive that you're only missing a few US box scans. If you have trouble finding them in a reasonable period of time let me know and I'll scan them, but there's no really tough ones unscanned from the looks of it.
So where did you get that stadium events scan? ;)

I have no idea (honestly) -- I've had piles of scans for years, and I simply put them in their respective slots.
The only box scans that I need right now for US games are:
Blades of Steel (-1) Classic Series (front an back)
Super Spy Hunter (have front, but need back, or both would be great)
Time of Lore (have back, but need front, or both would be great)
Heroes of the Lance (-1 box, if it exists)
Little Mermaid (-1 box, if it exists)
So really, we only need 3 confirmed boxes scanned to have all the USA boxes (not including seal variations, etc, which I'm in the process of adding as variations).
I'd love it if anyone here has those 3 that they could scan.

The first scan seems like a blown up digital camera photo with horrible JPEG artifacting. That's why it looks so messed up. :(

Oh, it seems you're missing the Werewolf: The Last Warrior comic book!
I recently bought a boxed version of the game which lacked a manual... should I scan the comic for you? :)
That would be really great -- I know about the comic book, but I don't personally own it yet. That would light a fire under me to get all maps, charts, etc, scan in as well.

I recall (ahem) someone purchasing a sealed SE a while back, and I happened to download the seller's zip file with all the scans. No way in hell I was going to let those get by me :)

NOE is for Germany. Nintendo of Europe is situated there. There's no other tag for Germany.

NOE is for Germany. Nintendo of Europe is situated there. There's no other tag for Germany.
On the German NES forums, they claim that FRG is also for Germany, stating that it stands for "Federal Republic of Germany." Personally, while FRG games do surface in Germany, I believe that FRG stands for Austria/Switzerland. I've also bought lots of games/manuals from Austria for NES and also GB, and they were always mostly FRG. Just thought I'd mention it though since it was brought up on the German forums not too long ago ;)

I'm of the mindset that just like the -GBR and -UKV codes that -FRG and -NOE represent games that were distributed by different means & times in Europe. It probably has to do with the period of time when Mattel distributed vs. the period of time when Nintendo took over. I dunno though...I'm pretty far removed from the PAL market so I am only guessing.

Well, Mattel only distributed in PAL-A countries (Italy, UK, and Australia), and a bit in Canada. You are correct in that there was a different code before NOE, though. EEC was not limited to Germany, but it was used for NES releases in Germany before the NOE code was used (from what I've heard, and it makes sense). I'm pretty confident that FRG was for the Austrian/Swiss markets, though. The FRG boxes also have addresses of the distributors on the back, both for Austria and Switzerland, but not for Germany. NOE boxes, on the other hand, only have the address of the German distributor on them if I'm not mistaken. My guess is that countries within the EU imported and exported these games with different region codes without much of a hassle, so they are found in numerous places.
On the German NES forums, they claim that FRG is also for Germany, stating that it stands for "Federal Republic of Germany."
Correct me if I am wrong, but didn't Epyx's Summer Games list one side of Germany (I forget which) as FRG?
m
Another reason why I'm not constricting NOE/EEC/FRG to a specific country is because FRG, as an example, also had many games released in Spain. For whatever reason, who knows, but there are over 30 that I've found to be the case.
