I've decided that I need to get one of these things to play light gun games for my emulators (specifically NES, SMS, MAME) and have been doing some research. There seem to be a few dozen from which to choose. Before I made a selection, I wanted to know if there were one that stood out above the rest--or if there were one to avoid. Cosmetically, I'm not fond of the really "klunky"-looking ones. Something kind of streamlined like the original NES or SMS pistols would be cool. I've got my eye on the Gemini and Arsenal ones, but there was a black one (didn't seem to have a specific brand name) that looked kind of cool too, which is right above the Gemini one on this page:

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Does anyone have an Xbox lightgun?

The only American one I know of is the Mad Catz one that came around for use with House of the Dead 3.

This is the best US light gun for the XBox. Not only was it 'designed' for use with the game, its the best reactive one that i've used, followed by the Silent Scope one.

The only Xbox light gun I ever was the Pelican sniper rifle. Was terrible with Silent Scope but I think that was the games fault and not the gun (had to turn the screen brightness WAAAY up in order for shots to register). Was pretty fun to use with HotD though when you transformed it to shotgun size and used the pump action barrel to reload. The only problem was that it was REALLY heavy and your arms would get tired after 5 minutes of holding it.

bit OT: Try that with one of full metal body gun for PS/PS2 available in Japan. you will get your arm tired after only few minutes of playing as the thing weight almost same as the real thing...

i bought a mad catz light gun for HOTD3, and it has not disappointed. It has multiple firing options (semi-automatic, automatic, shotgun, full round burst) and the response on it is superb. im not sure if any other light gun can own up to what this one is offering, so i'd definitely reccomend it.

I ended up ordering this one:

http://www.baysoftgames.com/xboxlightgun.html

It doesn't seem to have a brand name listed; it has (presumably) all the features I wanted and it looked the coolest; it cost $23.00 with shipping, brand new. I mainly want it for lightgun games for my NES, SMS, and MAME emulators, and perhaps SNES and Genesis as well. And what the heck, I might even pick up HotD3 too.

The Mad Catz one put me off at first, but now I'm starting to warm up to the idea of using two hands for a light gun. Since I've seen it around for about $15, I might end up picking that one up too.

I'll report back on the first one.

I have two of the Pelican sniper rifles. As stated above, they suck for Silent Scope, but they tear down and make a great shotgun for HOD3. With two players its a blast! I have not had any problems with them playing HOD3.
