I can understand that they put region locks on the normal games, but i cant understand why they do it on the games you can download through VC. The games are being emulated so the emulator shouldnt have much of a problem running a NTSC game on a PAL TV or vice versa.

This is beyond stupidity here from nintendo its like they are
going out of there way to turn people off of there console,
kame I tell you very lame, probably more so to PAL gamers.

Oh Nintendo Why THE F$CK do you hate PAL gamers soo much?

They will in turn hate you back :P LOL LOL

Weak. So much for getting in on great imports... :(

I'm more upset that the Wii games are region locked. For me, that's the biggest selling point of the PS3, and if the Wii had it, we'd finally be able to import all that awesome Japanese goodness with no modifications required. Oh well.

Well I really hope the Wii gets hacked asap then. I have no interest in pirating Wii or GC games, but I should be able to play whatever I want on the VC. If I could d/l Sin & Punishment from Nintendo then that'd be great. If not, I'll use whatever means possible.

I really though the Wii would be the answer; I no longer want several consoles set-up next to the TV. I don't want a console sat there for a handful of games. I just want a nice tiny little box that plays all Nintendo home system games, with a bit of Megadrive and PC Engine thrown in for good measure.

Wait... many thoughts.......

So the VC is supposed to have PC Engine games, cool. But we never got the PC Engine in the UK.... Does this mean the Japanese will get PCE games, you guys in the US will only get Turbo games and in the UK we get......Noooooo!!!!

Please tell me I can get Winds & Gate of Thunder.

The Wii VC is starting to look worse by the minute.

What kind of media will the Wii use? The same kind of mini CDs as the Gamecube?

I saw a pic last night of the GC disc next to a standard DVD/CD sized disc that had a Wii print on it (while the GC Disc had the GC print on it) next to a Wii system, so my guess is a normal disc. I'll look for the pic.

I'm willing to bet that one of the reasons why there is region locking is due to ESRB rules. (though that doesn't explain it for Europe). I seem to recall when they first announced the virtual console that they would allow you to get games from all regions. I guess they have decided against it for some reason.

It all boils down to money. If an american player buys Seikden Densetsu 3, NOJ gets the money, not NOA. It helps regionalize the money and sales. There's really no other reason for region locking. The same applies to movie dvds.

Who cares?

Was anyone here actually considering paying for a game that can be easily emulated on tons of other platforms? LOL.

The VC is a joke, it's only for the noobs.

Yes, because everyone wants to break the law and pirate old games.

Well, looks like I wont be using the VC feature at all if I'm limited to that much. Sucks for all Euro, US, and Aus Wii lovers on this day..

Or maybe what he is meaning is that a lot of people still have the
games they are pushing anyways,

maybe thats what he means?

Well he said "emulation" so I'm guessing that he's reffering to the DC, Xbox and PC.

Personally I could care less, but then again I'm not an import gamer and have no interest to be one.

I'll probably just use the VC to pick up the 8 and 16-bit RPGs that I never wanted to spend ton's of money on, and will probably never get ported.

Titles like Shining Force and the Phantasy Star series.

Me thinks y'all need to take some reading classes. :P

"However, this doesn't necessarily mean that gamers will only get to play titles released in Europe. It could well be that Nintendo still releases the likes of "Chrono Trigger" for the SNES and "Sin and Punishment" for the N64 in Europe, but just in European editions - with the extra languages."

No big whoop. Actually I see this as a good thing. It supports translated imports more than poo's on import VC stuff entirely. I'll dl Sweet Home, Sin & Punishment, Bangai-O and a bunch of other games that never came out here. Some (ie Sweet Home, text heavy stuff) ONLY if they are in english.

Wow, another spectacular post by Lothars! Shitting up the thread with not one, but two posts! It's a double whammy!

Here's a tip: You don't get the right to bitch about someone if you can't even find the shift key. The period key is that way ->

Also, you don't need to break every sentence up into a new paragraph.

It looks retarded.

It looks stupid.

It is annoying.

It makes you look like a dumbass.

Those 3 posts sum up what I was thinking, figured people should look at those.

Stop bickering. :P

Still, they could have made and saved so much more money by creating one central worldwide server/db than creating this region lock stuff.

I guess we will just have to wait and see....
