This question has come up in a trade recently. Chrono Cross is the original version while FFIX is Greatest Hits (not that I care all that much). I don't have any kind of Playstation myself, so whichever one I end up with, I'll be playing it on an emulator.
A few years ago I did play, finish, and quite enjoyed Final Fantasy IX, but I played through it in a real hurry and wouldn't mind going back to play it once again.
