You know, invite some friends over, and stay up late( or all night in my case) and play games till' you drop?

Just wondering if any of you guys have done this, because just the other night, I had three friends come over and we played Everquest Online Adventures, Super Mario World, and Zelda:LTTP, ALL NIGHT LONG, it was great. :D

I have people bring Tvs and we usuall have Bomberman, Golden Eye, Warlords, Indy 500 and Halo going on at the same time.

For my next party I want to do a decathalon type thing where everyone plays 10 games and a score is made for each one and added together and the winner gets a trophy that he or she gets to take and bring back and defend the next party. Kind of like the Stanley Cup.

Oh hell yes. When I was in my early teens it used to be a weekly thing. Go down to the nearest place that rented out NES games and get about 3 or 4 titles for the night, and play them until about 5am. Common rentals were Wrestlmania, 10 yard fight, and Jackal.

Can't do this anymore, I don't have any gaming friends that have time to do this sort of thing. They move away, get married, join the military etc..so enjoy these times while you have em boys. Savor every moment.

I don't know if I'd have called them "parties", but back in the day we used to enjoy the hell out of Heroes Of Might & Magic II for the PC

[bristish accent]
There was;
Me, that is Brian
and my three droogs, Michael, Reggie, and Trevor.
[/bristish accent]
Trevor has two brothers, Craig and Jeremy, and Craig had a friend Jake.

So in all there were 7 people. Craig and Jake, being the two youngest, we'd let them both play one army, figured they'd need two brains to keep up with us. Plus we had to, 'cause Heroes 2 only supported 6 players.

And we'd usually start at around 7-8 pm friday/saturday night, and play thru till someone was the sole survivor, whcih was usually 5-6 am the next morning.

And since it was a turn based game, only one person could play at once, so while someone was playing, the rest of us would slag off and watch TV or chat, smoke, listen to music, just do what all teenage kids with no girlfriends did to kill time (except masturbate) and that gave them privacy to think and do stuff without us looking over their shoulder.

Luckily we were all trustworthy and would call someone into the room when we were about to attack there hero/castle/town.

And you always knew when some people were forming alliances... cause they'd step out for smokes at the same time rather often, not wanting anyone else to come.

I still have 4-5 friends over and we play NHL95 for the Genesis. Kinda like a little league I have kept going for a long time.We used to have 20 guys playing it in a bar across 4 TV's. We even have a trophy.

Well, my copy of Herzog Zwei is going back to Oregon to a friend soon. The main reason I don't play it is cause i don't understand it. I REALLY need an English manual for that game so I can try and understand what the hell I'm supposed to be doing. My friend tried to explain it tons of times and I just never managed to get a grasp on that game. But I'd gladly take you up on shooter night sometime :)

I have them all the time. Sometimes, people even show up. Been having em since I was in middle school, and all through high school. Some of the faces change, but the games have mostly stayed the same over the years. Mario Kart, Street Fighter, Bust a Move, and Bomberman are all mainstays. When my old pals come down from their respective college campuses, we do the all night gaming thing. Otherwise, its just a couple of hours at most.

Ah, yes. Many a good night have been spent with my friends playing anything from Zelda: OoC to Super Smask Brothers to Goldeneye. Always, there is mass consumption of junk food and no sleep. :morning:

I remeber the first time I stayed up to five o'clock in the morning at a friend's house playing Twisted Metal 2. My father got upset because I had stayed up so late to play games. But then later in life, he cooled off and I would spend all-nighters gaming.

hehe the last one I had, I fell asleep at 2:00 (It snowed and I have to do alot of shit) I woke up at 9:00 the next day with 3 more people then I invited and on my one wall there was a high score list for a few games (I could careless). The stero was blasting and 3 games were still running. Everyone said it was the best one yet.

My social circle doesn't spend time w/ video games either. My wife plays a little "Life" & "Mad Maestro" but that's about it. This site/forum is the closest I get to a gaming party.

P.S.> @Alex Kidd: great "Clockwork Orange" opening- something else my friends aren't "into"!

Sad topic - in college, ALL the time, day or night.

Now, my friends aren't really game players, so that's all but gone.

In fact, I used to love sports games, because of how fun it is to play with others. However, playing alone, you can only kick the crap out of the computer so many times....

I would love to have a game party, but for now, I will just have to settle on the occasional time a couple of friends come over to play Neo Geo Turf Masters on my MVS 6-slot. O_O

Not intentionally....

My wife's last birthday party turned into a video game party. Ooops! She's not into games, you see. I did manage to convince her to do one round of DDR though.

I wouldn't call it a party necessarily (because a party, to me, means *lots* of people, and I keep it to like four usually) but yup, I've done it too.

Thanks for reminding me: it's time to organize another "Monkey Ball Masters" ...

Yea, gaming get-togethers rule. A couple years ago myself and about 10 other friends got together and had a video game tournament. Unfortunately, we didn't get to the actual tourney because we didn't even finish our seeding rounds to determine who would play who. But we did basically play video games all night. We played some one on one stuff like Tetris, Killer Instinct, Atari Bowling, Golf and also single player stuff. With the single player stuff we'd see who could clear a level with the best time (did this with Donkey Kong Country and some others). It was pretty fun.

i have ONE friend that plays video games. yes ONE. and he's married, so calling him over for an all-nighter isn't gonna happen. it's not that i don't have friends (no really!), it's just that they don't play video games...and i'm not even that old (24).

i used to do it all the time back in the day, stay up with friends and play all night long (back when street fighter 2 was the thing, and of course the old nes days). now the last time i got to play with others was a few months ago when i got bust-a-move. it was fun cramming 5 peeps into my tiny bedroom switching controllers around. :( i want more of those, gaming is more fun with others.

I used to invite 1-2 friends over for all-nighters but now I limit myself to events with 3-4 people and we usually order pizza and have pop and chips. Some of the games we play are: NHL '94, Super Monkey Ball 2 (mainly the minigames, I am the champ at Monkey Fight), Super Smash Bros: Melee, F-Zero X, Super Mario Kart, etc. 8-)

I'm in High School and so every once in a while there's a half day. On said half days anywhere from 5-10 people pile in their cars and go off to AndyG's (his nickname on the board) place. Hilarity ensues as we play 8 player Halo and eventually DDR Max 2. I tend to get into the DDR most often, making people laugh at my horrible attempts at doing Light Doubles.

These are a regularity at Neo-Geo.com

It's mostly hardcore games that get played at these things;
We roll in the MVS 6 slot, fire up Atomiswave and arcade boards (Mostly of shooters and beat em ups). Puzzle games are big, as is Twinkle Star Sprites.

Sadly enough, very little (if any) bomberman, mario party, or mario cart gets played.

Check out pics and video here of the MN gathering, which takes place 2X a year.

Me and my buddies, who all had (and still have) Atari Lynx units used to get together at least once a year and have a Lynx party (this was back in the 90's). Best game of course was Slime WOrld - eight player on this one is just so much fun, even with the occasional slowdown in game play (when too much is happening in the game). We would play this this for hours and hours.

Other Lynx favorites where: Xenophobe (playing the alien and backstabing your friends was cool), Warbirds (decent, but not a long lasting game), BattleWheels (now this game was damn cool, except that Dan always kicked everyone's ass on this one).

This was years ago, however....

Recently, I had a Marathon party - playing Marathon II on the macintosh - with 8 machines on a LAN. Now this setup was a complete blast and everyone enjoyed it, even Scott, who kept winning all the games - except keep-away, which I always won. ;)

The last gathering was a year ago, when I setup a 6 player LAN of Diablo II. That we played all night, and everyone had fun. We really need to do that again, but it's been hard getting people together nowadays (most of my buddies have kids now). Ah well...

When Phantasy Star came out back in the day, me and 2 of my friends would spend weekends playing it. About 4 weekends into the game, my friend who had the game, moved. I bought it a few weeks later. But it just wasn't the same. It's still the only PS game I have not beaten.

But I did have my 8th birthday at an arcade. This was 1981 - at the height of the golden age. I remember vividly hogging the Crazy Climber machine all night :)

Sorry to revive this long dead thread, but I wanted to chime in.

My friends from Colorado visit (or I visit them) every year, and we stay up all night for two nights trying to beat every Resident Evil game. It hasn't been done yet, but we are hoping on doing it one summer. Not a full on party, but we drink soda and energy drinks and have a great time doing it.

When I move into a bigger house, I may have Smash Bros parties at my place and have competitions with actual prizes.

I usually have a huge retro game party every year with like 20 tvs set up throughout my house.

Probably wont happen this year but we are having a lan starwars battlefront 2 party tonignt. 12 people on 2 projectors and 1 big tv, in 3 separate rooms.

I've done this in the past with timesplitters. This should be better though because we will be using 360's so all wireless controllers will be nice. I hate that timesplitters is not bc.

When I was a youngin, I'd do this every year for my birthday.

Best party was 3 TVs,

1. Playstation
2. Saturn
3. Genesis with Sega Channel (Which mostly consisted of major Mega Bomberman battles)

Wish I could find more people around here to do stuff like that now :(

alot of 3 person get togethers. one summer i was over at a friends house 3-5 times a week and during school it was the whole weekend. just playing games.

most memorable was when FF CC first came out for the GC. friend bought it. we all came to my house set up 2 tvs , and jerry rigged 2 GCs hooked via GB player into the main GC and displaying on a PS1 LCD for one as my controller and the other displaying on the second TV. i hadn't slept for 2 days at that point but was wired on sugar so one friend kept freaking me out with this strange noise. all in all a fun 20 hours

This is an old post being replied to, but it is true. I am family man with wife and kids, and we still have gaming time regularly.

And for the topic,
We host video game gatherings every other week (excluding holidays) at my home (sometimes we will venture to other fellows homes who are willing to host). I currently have two televisions and one RGB monitor, and my friend usually will bring his HD monitor with 360 for fighting game action. The mainstays are about 5 people and sometimes we get more folks when they are available and their schedules can accommodate…

There is a link in my signature that goes into more detail at what we do here in Michigan.

Wow, I never knew there were this many gamers in SE Michigan. I might have to attend one of these sometime.

I'm hosting a little classic gaming get together at my place on Sept 12th in Flat Rock (My first one). We're going to head down to my place after we meet up at Pinball Petes or Marvins and party until dawn (or everyone goes home). All are welcome until I run out of space.

There's a thread on AA about in the Events section (http://www.atariage.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=143727). Shoot me a PM if interested.

That is a lot of fun. My friends and I have been doing that for a good portion of the summer. We played through and beat in one sitting:

Megaman 9
Punch Out! Wii
Ocarina of Time
Star Fox Assault
Majora's Mask
Super Mario 2 JP

Those nights are a lot of fun.
