Ahem....It's been done before. (http://www.atarimuseum.com/videogames/consoles/2600/mindlink.html) Honestly, you kids have no sense of history whatsoever.
Seriously, this is way mad cool. If I had epilepsy or some other neuromuscular disorder I would consider something like this very enabling. It wouldn't surprise me if further research demonstrates that things like this might actually reduce the number of seizures an epileptic is likely to have. Score one for the boys in the labcoats.

Of course both of those are different methods all together. The main poster deals with direct connections to the brain while the Atari "Mindlink" simply adjusted movement from muscle movement. The neurological one is more advanced and quite interesting although they have been doing quite a few things with this technology in the recent years; never seen them do a video game.

I saw a documentary about brain science just recently that showed a person who had had some sort of brain trauma using a video game controlled direclty by his brain as a form of therapy. The head trauma had caused certain eratic brain signals, so in order to help retrain his brain, they hooked the guy up to a video game where he had to simultaneously keep three rocketships blasting off, but with the middle of the three getting the most lift, all using only brain waves translated through an EEG machine. At first everything was just random and he couldn't control anything since we can't really directly influence our brain signals the way he do our hands or eyes or whatever, but over time he apparently sort of learned how to control each ship individually, though it was never exactly conscious. They showed that after some amount of time using the game he was indeed able to successfully keep the middle spaceship up the highest and everything. It was damned interesting, but of course what I really wanted to know was if they had any better games.
...word is bondage...
