Turns out that the sensor bar for the Wii doesnt go well with sunlight and light from halogen bulbs. Quote from Nintendo forum (http://forums.nintendo.com/nintendo/board/message?board.id=revolution&message.id=2065592):

We know that the sensor bar goes all wonky when halogen lights are in the room. But did you know that natural sunlight messes it up too? That's right, if you have the sun beaming right onto the sensor bar, it doesn't work. For about an hour or so, the sun shone right into the store, the two MP3:C kiosks had to have curtains above them, and the Wii Sports Tennis and Shooting Game kiosks were unplayable since they were "shrouded" in sunlight. Later the sun went behind a building, and everything was in working order again. So when you get your Wii, don't play it in the sunlight. Or keep the sensor bar and TV away from the windows.

Not really a big problem, but it still kinda sux. I wonder how sensitive it is, if you have to hang iron curtains up lol, or if your normal curtains will do the job.

I live on the sun, so this is a problem.

Well that's a bit of a bugger. I have a 3 spot Halogen light on the ceiling and 2 Halogen wall lights in the Living room.

My Wii enthusiasm is rapidly fading.

Considering that sunlight is ALREADY the enemy of being able to see the TV, I don't think that this is a big deal at all.

Agreed. Only halogen lights in my house exist in the closets and we have no TVs near windows. I'm also generally busy during the day so there isn't really a sun to be worried about in the late afternoon and evening times.

Just read that Nintendo said the light wasnt a problem. If its true or not is another thing, but as mentioned, sunlight on the TV itself is a problem since you cant see shit then hehe.

Exactly. The light coming in from windows in a storefront is much much higher than ambient light from the windows in your house, unless your tv is directly across from your window, which makes the tv hard to see anyway.

I think this is all BS, and am sure that the rumor was started by someone at sony to bash nintendo. The article is on IGN too, they contacted Nintendo and they said it was bogus. I am sure if you have the thing in direct blazing sunlight in a house with glass walls in which the sun can directly consume the sensor it would be a problem but seriously who has THAT much sunlight exposed to their TV area.

I don't see this becoming a problem. We all know that most people who play video games live in their mother's dark, windowless basements...or at a very minimum a room (in their mother's house) with the shades pulled. Really, have you ever seen a person with a tan shopping at Gamestop?

For the dense: It's a joke.
