Sad but true, Capcom is shutting down Clover Studio:

Sorry to be lame, but that wholly and truly sucks.

This is yet another thing that makes Okami so special. I might just go buy another copy. Sad that its brilliance had to be bathed in martyrdom. The reported mediocrity of God Hand notwithstanding, Clover Studios had quite a run, capped off with a true masterpiece. They should split off and join Treasure or Q Entertainment.

"Lets see... our overexploited (read milked) franchises are beginning to falter... lets get rid of one of our most creative studios." If Viewtiful Joe series had blossomed into a true franchise, or Okami had made the impact in first-week sales it deserved (executives are not big on sleepers, and it was sold for $39.99 after incubating for almost three, no doubt, expensive years) we might have seen a different course of action. Unfortunately, the bigger picture points to a Capcom poised for merger or death.

Sounds like the only thing that's changing is that the future games from these guys are just going to be under a different company name and not published by Capcom:

"According to unnamed sources cited by Wired News weblog Game|Life, rumors suggest that many of the Clover Studio personnel may be planning to leave Capcom and form their own development studio. The article goes as far to suggest that the proposed split may have precipitated the dissolving of the studio by Capcom. (http://www.gamasutra.com/php-bin/news_index.php?story=11229)"

"The company is indeed dissolving as a Capcom company. However, we interviewed inaba at TGS, and some people were surprised, as they'd heard he was leaving Capcom to form his own studio. It may well be that he's leaving with Clover, and this is Capcom's 'face-saving' method of doing so. Regardless, I don't think you have to worry about Clover-esque games coming to market, as I don't think inaba has any intention of slowing down. So don't get all crazy. IMO it sounds like the only people getting screwed are Capcom.

Hmm, so it may be more of a "henshin a go go" then a "gone"

I can live with that.

Seems that this is the story that Capcom put out to save face and in reality Clover are becoming their own study according to a story at Kotaku.
