Remember when games had conveyor belts in'em? Hell, just about every platformer had one (or twenty). One would send you right, the next one takes you left. And in many cases, the belts usually led to a pit or bed of spikes.
Metal Man's stage in Mega Man 2 is one I'm quite fond of. The belts would actually switch directions on you in some places.

Are there any memorable stages you can conjure up that featured conveyor belts?

The last level of Chip & Dale: Rescue Rangers on the NES jumps to mind, as it's the only part of the game that still holds a challenge!

Shinobi 3, the area where you go against the mutant blob boss thing. The factory levels are pure fun. 8-)
Party Mix, Pressure Cooker, Piece o' Cake, Cakewalk on VCS, excellent titles.

There are a lot of big fans of Lucasarts' Night Shift.
The Incredible Machine also comes to mind. And how about some of the last levels of SMB3, like the World 8 fortress?

Level 6 in "Streets of Rage" has some.
There is even one part where one is going to the left and one is going to the right with allows you to quickly walk up to some baddie and kick thier ass. :D
SOR3 also includes a stage with belts, level 7 B (when you go to the factory and end up fighting the robot boss).

Sounds like several of the stages in Mario vs. Donkey Kong 2! LOL

I would think the most memorable one would be one of the originals :)

Yeah this level gave me hell when I was a little kid. I did not have the skills to time jumps and dodge the falling spike things so I was S.O.L. This is the only game I can think of that had conveyor belts for the NES, but I believe there were games that had conveyor belt type systems. For example in one of the Sonic games the waterfalls act very similar to conveyor belts. I just dont remember which Sonic it was....OH well

Well in Sonic 2 for the GameGear they had the mech levels with belts and gears all over the place. And continuing with the GG, in Shinobi the Yellow ninja could walk on water and in most water levels it was flowing, somewhat like a belt. Of course if you weren't playing as yellow you were screwed and drowned.

The Bomberman games, though not platformers, made excellent usage of conveyor belts. BM clone Spark World also represents it well

Yep! I can fly through the rest of the game but that part is pretty tough.

Although it wasnt too much of a chaleenge, I recall Flame Mamoth's stage in Mega Man X. Conveyor belts and smasher-things, the classic combo.

the final boss in wonderboy in mosnter land on the genesis was proabably one of the hardest bosses i've ever fought simply because there was a mother fucking conveyer belt inexplicably in his room, very frustrating fight, only ever managed to beat him once.
Frank Cohen games always had conveyor belts

Bruce Lee has something like this. You don't actually ride them, but they have something on them that hurts you. Kind of like the sparks in Donkey Kong Jr.

Beyond Good & Evil for the PS2/XB/GCN has a pretty decent level where your moving about all over a factory conveyor system.
