I'm really thinking about picking this up.
Impressions?

I picked this up yesterday after hearing lots of people on Atari Age and CAG raving about it's unlimited replay value and huge selection of games with WiFi play. I only put a couple hours into it so far but I'm really not impressed.
CHG goes for the quantity over quality route and tries to fit every single parlor & card game you can think of into the cartridge. The problem is that these games are totally stripped down and lacking any kind of options. For instance, the bowling game doesn't let you use spin on your ball which makes it impossible to pick up any kind of tough spares. No ball weight or surface options either. Same deal with darts...no weight options. You just throw it and hope for a good score.
I've only played a few of the card games but they seem pretty weak too. In blackjack there is no split option and you only play 5 hands...person with the most chips at the end is the winner. Texas Hold 'Em doesn't have an All-In option either.
And some of the games are just stupid filler. In Soda Shake, players take turns shaking a bottle using the touch screen hoping not to be the one that makes it explode. And the billiards game looks like something that was thrown together at the last minute.
There are some good things about CHG though. There's in-game Picto Chat for all the games which can be used on WiFi too. I'm surprised Nintendo didn't utilize this in any other games sooner because it works great and should be a standard on all DS WiFi games. The touch screen works great too, especially for the card games.

I bought it just to play Chess and Hold 'Em on WiFi. Out of the other games I've tried, I like Darts a lot. Also doesn't hurt to have DS versions of Shanghai and Reversi (Mahjong Solitaire and Turncoat)
$35 game? Not really. Great game though.

You must have bought it at Gamestop/EB, huh? I don't know why it's $35 there and $30 everywhere else. I guess that's their new thing...jacking up new DS games an extra $5.
This really should have been a $20 game though. Without the WiFi play, it'd seem like it's a budget title.

I agree. I assumed that this would be a $20 budget title, since it is a pretty simple one. I can't see someone making any hard choices between Clubhouse games and, say, Rocket Slime. It's just not on that tier.
I was really shocked to see a $35 sticker for the game, as I was looking forward to it. If for nothing else, you can play chess and checkers and battleship online. It's a title I've been paying attention to for a long time. Now, it seems I'll just wait for the price to come down to more reasonable levels.
Besides, I've still spending all my DS time on Rocket Slime (almost finished), with four more games in the bullpen. Too many good games, kids, too many good games.

I played CHG Darts on the Fusion Tour (they had DS Download Station #3) and I loved it. I played WAY too much Darts on SMS Parlour Games, but the DS control is light years better.
Thanks for the impressions, norkusa. I was under the impression that all but 4-5 of the games were wifi enabled - is that true?

Yep, just about all the games are wi-fi enabled. Been playing mostly THE with a bit of others thrown in so far.

I love playing the dart game. Bowling is kinda meh, but kind of fun. Billiards does suck out loud though.
I enjoy quite a few of the games (which does surprise me because these usually aren't my style of games).
Got it at the Evil Empire for $30, and don't feel like I got ripped off, it was worth it to me. I'll get my friend code up later today, when I can get to my DS.

They've been doing that since Nintendogs. Hell I work at Gamestop and I'd never buy a DS game there.

WTF? I just played a few games on WiFi for the first time and it turns out you CAN'T use the Pictochat online. There is just a list of 20 short phrases like "good one!", "watch out" and "eeek!" that you can send to the other player along with some stupid little smiley faces. I guess the Pictochat feature is only for LAN play.
First Friends Codes, now this. Why the hell is Nintendo so scared of letting people communicate online in their games? It seems like they are trying to protect the kiddies from nasty, foul-mouthed pervs but jesus, how long are they going to shelter them? It's getting to the point where it's too annoying to play any Nintendo game online.

You can only use the Pictochat during Friends games, not the Worldwide option. I guess that way you know the people you are talking to and can be as abusive as you want to them :P

That sucks. I'll have to add some of you guy's friends codes so I can be abusive and draw dirty pictures in Pictochat then. :P

More people need to pick this tittle up, the Darts/Bowling/5 card Draw and checkers seems to be the hot games online, sure wish the chat feature was better durring games, but it's a must have on the DS IMO.

Who is that? Jack Thompson?
Is there any way to tweak the gameplay settings for online play? Last night I was playing 5 Card Draw against someone and it was set for 30 games. @_@

Tack on a Gamer Gift Card, and that brings it to $20, the magic number.

This game kicks so much ass :)
Playing multiplayer Presidents, Bullshit ("I doubt it"), Bowling, Nap, and too many to list is fantastic fun.
Great for roadtrips, wifi, solo!

The game is not about a zillion options and intricate game play, as I think norkusa wishes it to be. It is about having fun playing parlor games. Saying it is "too easy" is missing the point. Most of these games are luck and chance anyways. The game has some nice single player things to do too.

I'm not saying I want the games to have limitless options. Just some simple game play options would be nice. Every crappy bowling game released since the 8-bit era lets you put spin on your ball, so I don't think expecting the option to be in CHG is too much to ask. And being forced to play 30 hands of 5-Card Draw in an online game is ridiculous IMO (especially if you have 4+ players in your party). There should at least be an option to shorten it down a tad (if there is, I don't see it).
Yeah, maybe I'm nitpicking but some of the missing features here are impossible not to overlook.

it looks to me like there are options for 1,5,10,30. I will have to look how to set that for multiplayer, but I am sure it is possible.
Since this is a Touch Generation game, I was not expecting things like spin in bowling. I think it would be overkill in a game such as this.
It is like me wanting to be able to move my character in Wii Sports Tennis. I was disappointed that I could only hit the ball, but it makes perfect sense.

Someone play me in hearts! :) I haven't been able to find anyone online to play it with yet. However, if I pick darts I have a full room nearly every time. Fun time waster.

Not had a problem finding Hearts players yet. Played two games, won two games (versus 2 and 3 others respectively).
Just a pity you only get 10 points for the win regardless of the number of opponents...
If you run across me, be scared heh ;)

Really enjoy this one. :) Chess, backgammon, dominoes, darts, bowling and the card games... pure awesome. I guess I'm weird, because if I'm playing someone that I don't know online I don't want them to have carte blanch as far as telling me their BS. I don't need some A-hole calling me a douche-bag after I checkmate their ass in 4 moves.
Been playing offline multiplayer ALOT more than online though. This game is awesome with local players. 8 players, one game cart! God I love d/l play.
Being a Touch Gen series release I can understand why some of the games seem watered or dumbed down. On the other hand the simplicity turns out to be a big plus. I think I have sold Nintendo some DS's playing this out at dinner and such. Just tonight our server wanted to know what we were doing... I offered to let him try it out, he threw a dart and hit the board (scored a 12) he was amazed that he could hit the board on the first go in the game but in RL would only hit the board 1 or 2 times out of three. :)

Oh, hey, here it is! Oops. I knew there was a thread here somewhere, but I couldn't find it via the search. Weird.
Anyway, it's a great game; I haven't been online yet because the nearby coffeeshop has locked their wifi. It used to be free, so that's where I'd go for a little Mario Kart or Tetris. Ah, well, really should get that wireless router someday.
Again, though, I am seriously stuck on Solitaire. It's amazing how much harder it becomes when you have to deal out 3 cards at a time instead of 1. I'm getting closer and closer, but still no dice, and I'm on Day 4. Everything else on Stamp Mode was easy until this point.
Shogi had better be worth it.
I do wish Nintendo would have paid for licences, so we'd get a real Uno and Battleship, or at least a better ripoff. Now give me a DS version of Hoyle Board Games!

It's funny how if you read this thread in order, the reviews have gone from largely negative to largely positive. Weird...
