I jumped in on this a few weeks ago and picked up the PS2 and Xbox versions. Hell, $4 total for two ports of one of the best PC action games to come out in the last 5 years? Why not? :)
(the PS2 version kinda bites just like the first Max Payne PS2 and I haven't played the Xbox version yet :( )
Now if only the GBA game would wind up super silly cheap (new)...that'd be perfect :)

Ah... Max Payne :)
Both the original and the sequel (which, in truth, is just more of the same - though, in this case, it is exactly what I wanted) are superb.
I really don't have the first clue, though, as to how these ports to PlayStation 2 and Xbox hold up. Graphically, I'm sure they don't cut quite the same mustard, and I'd personally prefer a mouse. But if you find 'em cheap, then you really can't go wrong.
The storytelling, for example, is simply a cut above the norm. Heck, it is probably worth the price of admission alone. I loved every single depressing moment. And the action comes thick and fast, too - and it doesn't once become repetitive!
C'mon, Remedy - Max Payne > Alan Wake! Complete the trilogy, already. You know you want to!

Just confirming that the new and used prices are good at B&M stores as well. I got a new copy of the PS2 version at an EB last night. Now I just need to play through the first one...

I mean you cannot go wrong for 1.99 I would play a game even if it was not that great because it cost a mere 1.99

I picked this up in store for $1.99 and at the same time Tecmo Arcade Classics for $4.99. Tecmo Bowl was worth the $4.99. I believe its the same price online for Tecmo.

Is a third game even really necessary? It's admittedly been some time since I last played through the second game, but I thought it provided some closure for the Max Payne story. I'd rather it be left as is instead of becoming another cash cow deal and have Remedy branch out with new stuff like Alan Wake, which looks really interesting.
Anyway, the Xbox version is definitely the one to go for if you have the means. It doesn't quite have the visual flair of the PC version, but it's nothing to scoff at, and it runs at a very steady, high framerate. PS2 version on the other hand had blurry graphics, slideshow framerate, looong load times and a screwed up save system. I think it was even missing some sound effects too.
But for $2, I'd suck it up just to play through the nice story, and the fun house level which is fucking awesome.

Bahh...
The offer is not valid at Canadian B&M stores, and ebgames.com won't ship it to Canada :(
