View Full Version : Curious about buyer..

I recently had a 0 feedback/unverified buyer win an auction of mine. Maybe I was stupid to accept payment, but at quick glance they had been a member on paypal for 1 month 3 days or something so I figured it would be okay. I was curious about them and asked them if they could take the time to get verified as I would feel much better about shipping the item and they replied:

I understand your concern Scott, however I have tried time and again to get paypal to send me the account verification e-mail, but the e-mail never makes it through. I have purchased items via e-bay before and my lack of feedback leaves me as baffled as it is disconcerting to you. I have never stiffed a seller of either payment or positive feedback and my paypal account is attched to my credit card so payment will be automatic regardless. Please accept these reasons as a token of my understanding of your concern. I'd appreciate a response as well as the game I have purchsed from you. Thank you.

In second thought, would it be better to ask for a money order ?

Any ideas?

If you're really concerned (unverified member with 0 feedback gives you reason), I would definitely go the money order route.

Well the money has been sent through paypal so at least he's paid for the item. I'll just get delivery confirmation and tracking to make sure it arrives. Maybe i'm making it a bigger deal then it is.

On another note, what a horrible day. I bought this a week ago and recieved it today -> http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=110042368494

After receiving it loose (in a Brita water filter box) I was quite upset and requested a refund or the box to go with the saturn and he replied:

The Saturn is a model 2 and it is a complete set with everything there, except games. Just like the listing said. It was shipped boxed, like I had recieved it. If you read down towards the bottom of the listing you will see that I do not except refunds, sorry.

I hate to threaten people with filing claims with paypal about it, but he gave me a pretty lame excuse so I didn't have much other choice. We'll see how this one turns out...

I've once had a zero feedbacker from Germany pay for my ebay item at over $100 USD (with an unverified Paypal account).

I don't think all unverified users are shady, especially those outside the US, but still I wouldn't take any chances...

scott21,

File a claim against that Saturn jerk. He had the box, and didn't ship it. That's pretty much a... what's the word... uh. Well the item is not as pictured. So you should be able to file a claim. He said boxed, so you should get the box.

Yeah that's my plan. I'll give him until tomorrow to give me a reply but it doesn't look too hopeful. I laughed when he said he shipped it boxed.. Yeah! in a Brita water filter box! :P

After i re-read his reply, it sounds like he got screwed from a seller and tried to pass the bad deal onto me. Oh well.

Even if I do get my money back, I don't need another loose saturn laying around my house. Argg.. I doubt he'll give me the extra money to ship it back to him.

Not to be a party pooper but Paypal won't side with you on the Saturn.

In the description it never says you will get the box. And the title just says "boxed" and well he did send it in a box.

He probably just used someone elses photo.

Yeah, but the auction title states "COMPLETE SEGA SATURN CONSOLE CD/CARTRIDGE BOXED"

it's hard to twist "boxed" into being "will be shipped in a box".

No it's noy hard. It never says "factory boxed" or "original box". And the item descripyion says what is included and it does not mention a box of any kind.

Paypal will not side with you on this one.

The auction picture is not the same item he got. That should be enough to win, or at least dispute the claim.

Nope, nowhere in the auction does it say that the item pictured is the actual item. And Ebay doesn't stipulate that you have to have a picture of the actual item.

He should still try.

Yes he should. And hopefully Paypal will side with him.

I just don't think they will :(

But if i have to take a $10 hit for shipping it back, i'd rather relist as a BIN for 30 and break even with it since it was a good deal on shipping. No reply from the seller tonight, and sadly I realized I had already left him good feedback (got backed up with 215 unsent feedbacks and spammed them to give everyone good feedback i'd dealth with in the last month or two, including him.)

Are you sure I have to pay shipping to have the item refunded?

That was shady all the way and you should try to get whatever you can.

Boxed in the title does not mean "shipped in a box"

What else would you ship something in, a plastic bag? Of course it's going to come "boxed"

When referring to video game systems/games/collectibles, boxed means comes in it's original box.

That's like putting something on ebay and saying "Atari Jaguar system MINT IN BOX!"

and then putting a Peppermint Patty in the Michelob Lite cardboard box as a little sunday surprise.

Ha.. LOL ..Ha.. too true.

But seriously, to make a claim through PayPal would be a waste as the refund would be on a "significantly not as described" basis & It doesn't mention the box in the description (only the title + photo) so you may fall short here.

I think the best you could do is relist with an accurate description & cut your losses (Hopefully none or minimal).

BUT... ALL MEMBERS OF DP SHOULD AVOID THIS DISHONEST SELLER!!!

That seller is a piece of trash, but I see you having a hard time getting your money back. The item description is what you are paying for; no mention of original box or that the item pictured is the one you will receive. I'm guessing that its some sort of stock photo and he never owned the original box. Hopefully Paypal sides with you, but I don't find it likely.

I Don't think he was intentionally trying to decieve anyone, not buy listing a funcational saturn with a $12.00 BIN. Although, the picture showed a boxed saturn so he should of mentioned the original box was not included.

I noticed you used BIN to get a nearly new boxed saturn a little while earlier, so why would you buy another if you dont want them lying around. I assume to just turn out and resell for a higher price.

The one I bought earlier was for a friend in France (sadly it didn't have a manual so i bought this one thinking it would be complete and i'd keep or resell the other one). Most saturn stuff I have he gets first dibs on for his collection and anything he doesn't want and I dont need goes on ebay.

It was a good deal and all, and at worst i'll resell as a $30 BIN and be done with it.

I sent the seller and email requesting a pic of the saturn before I bought it and asked if it came came complete and he resent the picture listed on ebay (which i sadly deleted). It threw up a small caution flag but I was anxious to buy. Oh well :S Learning experience for the future.
