Hey I just moved to Roswell and I was wondering where are the places inside and outside of Atlanta to go hunting for stuff. I would like to know some of the flea markets if any and any other types of stores that sell video games and any other sort of stuff that goes along with it. Thanks and feel free to give anything in the entire area of Atlanta because I have been nowhere yet.

There's a Flea Market off of 85 inside the Perimeter. I've never been there but I've heard that it pretty big. I have been to the Pentagrass up 985. I was amazed at how many shops that they had. I have never been to another Flea Market but they had some good stuff in the regular shops. There were three regulars who had really extensive shops with a not of SNES stuff. N64 abounds and I must have seen just about every Nintendo and Sega system offered throughout.

As for places that carry old school games, they are quickly decreasing in number. Rhino is about the only place that I know of anymore. I know of 2, around Lawrenceville-Swannee and 85 in Swannee and one over by the Mall of Georgia. There are probubly other stores closer to you but I don't know.

I'm not to familiar with Georgia but if you happen to know where Duluth is then you may want to check this place out. It is called waba games.

Rhino is a chain. They used to have a couple of other stores but they're closed now.

Atlanta proper is getting pretty shitty lately... EBs/Gamestops are taking over. There was a COOL chain called SwapUSA with two locations that carried lots of old stuff and cool imports but they were expensive and the service sucked. Then they moved to a storefront in Discover Mills Malls off 85 (better staff) but now they have ditched games entirely in favor of slot machines and poker chips.

I haven't heard of that Flea Market inside the perimeter... I need to check that out! There's one up 85 about an hour outside Midtown (it might be that Pendergrass market already mentioned... it's the one with the huge billboards with the cow on them) and you can find some decent stuff there.

In-town game stores are all turning into EB and Gamestop.

SwapUSA was a good store. I found 2 Metal Warriors for 10 a piece, New Horizons for 10 and when they were closing bought Ardy Lightfoot and Spike McFang for 5 a piece. They were nice cause they were close and had less expensive prices than Rhino who has dropped their prices a little now that just about all of the competition has gone away. SwapUSA was sweet when they were closing that store. Rhino also has a deal going on when you buy games 19.99 or less. I think its buy 2 get one free. Only thing is that they suffer from the same syndrome as EB, not-having-the-case-for-ps-games-itis.

Rhino's 360 prices are much better than Gamestop/EB, on used. Otherwise I think they charge too much.

SwapUSA used to have at least 3 stores. I know the one on Lawrenceville-Suwanee Rd. closed, but I'm not sure about the store on Roswell Rd/285. They, too were a bit too high. The good thing, though, was they usually had no idea what they had. They charged more for the big name games, but the truly rare ones were left out on the floor.

There's a few booths at the Pendergrass Flea that have a lot of games, but they are really Very overpriced.

Best bet are the Thrifts, at which I've had great luck. If you take Roswell Rd up towards Alpharetta you will hit a Value Village, some little thrift whose name excapes me, and a GoodWill, in that order, all on the right side of the road, heading north. The GoodWill is particularly good for finding classic computer bits, for whatever reason.

Good luck, welcome to Atlanta!

Yeah, the Roswell Road Swap USA store is gone. It was my favorite game store in Atlanta. The staff were all lazy and didn't even greet you (I do like the friendliness of many EB employees) but at least they left you alone. If I was an immoral person I could have robbed them blind... the store was huge and all the employees would hover in one placenear the front playing whatever on the big TV.

You're right about their prices.... they were wildly inconsistant. $10 minimum for the crappiest of Saturn sports titles. $40 for some N64 carts. Loose SNES games $10 each no matter how shitty. Then they would have Radiant Silvergun for $50. Or all three of the Wisdom Tree Genesis games complete for $15 total. Genesis games were $5 normally but they had a little sign up with about twenty "exceptions" for popular/rare/expensive titles with much higher prices but they never kept track of it and I certainly wasn't going to tell them. They carried tons of imports for A LOT of systems plus some pretty obscure stuff and were had fairly reasonable prices on those for some reason.

I miss that store. I'm going to try some of the places in this post.

And welcome to Atlanta! PM me if you need anything!

Samethig for the goodwill off pleasanthill rd. and peachtree parkway. Pendergrass it pretty goos I got my JVC xeye for 20$ complete and in good shape, from one of the venders outside.

The Lawrenceville one was like a hallway, so it wouldn't have been that easy at that one, but I did notice that most of the time, the sales person was reading something or playing games. SO, I know exactly what your taking about.

Well, I know where I'm going next weekend!

Welcome to the area, Shizzle! If you ever find your way to the Athens area (but for God's sake, don't come during a UGA game), you should check out the JJ Flea Market, it's got several retro game stalls to browse through.

Yeah, unfortunately most of 'em have marked the games INSANELY high. There is one stall run by a Koren couple that is just chock full of game goodness, but when they have common ass NES titles marked at $15, and N64 games at $40, that's just crazy-go-nuts. There's also a guy in the big sheltered barn like thing with stacks upon stacks of SNES games, but they start at $15 a pop. No thanks.

There's one stall that's on the right side of the entrance that's simply marked by a neon sign that says "Video Games". They also sell dirt bikes and such. They don't have as vast a selection as the others, but their prices are excellent. And it doesn't hurt that the girl that runs the register is a cutie. ;) Tell 'em Josh sent ya, then be amazed as they ask "Who the f**k is Josh?"

NO shit about the UGA thing I went to the zaxbys in that town outside of Athens and there were about a thousand different people with red and black on. Talk about freaking ridiculous. I wanted to walk up and tell some one I was a Georgia Tech fan just for the hell of it. I appreciate the refrence though I will check out the flea market one day because I freaking love flea markets.

I went to WABAGAMES this weekend. Impressions...

Wow, they have A LOT of stuff! Lots of NES and SNES, lots of PSone, Saturn, and LOADS of Dreamcast, lots of current stuff, and a fair amount of wacky imports and oddities. I picked up a few things including Delta Warp for the NGPC, some Dreamcast games, and a few SNES games.

The store itself is rather small and PACKED to the rafters. The staff (one guy at the time) was VERY friendly and we talked for over an hour. He even gave me a free energy drink. Unfortunately, the store's layout is great for shoplifting so the guy stayed near me the whole time. I understand the need (I really do) but it's annoying to have someone hovering when you just want to browse. Some of the games weren't priced, either... he had to keep calling the owner for prices. The owner wouldn't take much off any games, either... even stuff that had a fine layer of dust from sitting forever. I would have bought A LOT more had the owner been more accomodating. I'm not asking for half off or something crazy but $2 off an obscure game (tagged at $50) that no one but me has ever expressed an interest in buying is not a very good business practice. I doubt I'll go back for awhile but I will go back (if they stay open.)

Speaking of prices... they are really mixed. Some of the stuff is fairly reasonable while other stuff is outrageous. Popular Dreamcast games were in the $40-$50 range. They did have a lot of sealed (common) Dreamcast games, though. Don't go there looking to find Bubble Bath Babes or PDS for $10.

The coolest thing is the BACK of the store... it's HUGE. It's a great big recreation area with lots of TVs and consoles hooked up, a massive screen for a projection TV, snack bar, pool table... I bet they have phenominal tournaments.

I recommend it.
