View Full Version : How do you Genesize?

That is, what hardware do you primarily use for playing Genesis cartridges?
For me, nothing beats the Laseractive!

I use the Genny 2 mainly. I have it set up in the corner of my room on an old Apple monitor. No sound (been to lazy to buy them), but the price was right! *wink*

On my main setup, I have a Genesis 1 - Sidemount Sega CD - Power Base Converter combo. However, a connection slipped loose and now I get no picture. I don't want to get eaten by the rat's nest down there, so it stays off.

I'd love a CDX, because I can then have Sega CD capability on my monitor, with less room than the Genesis 2 takes now. Maybe at PC4...

CDX, as it's the only one I have room for in my entertainment center! :)

Genesis 1 by itself, for regular Genesis carts and the Power Base Converter. There's a side console set up of a Genesis 2 with the 32X and a planned Sega CD when it comes in for the other games.

Mostly on Laseractive these days, but I have done lots of Genesizing on my X'Eye and on the Genesis I. Recenly I've been using an emulator (GENS) as well, really nice with the HotRod stick.

Doh! I knew I was forgetting something. I just added 2 more options for X'Eye and emulators. Gotta love these new polls with unlimited options! Not that anyone's going to vote for TeraDrive...

CDX for me- small and east to store and takes up little room. plus it has the Sega CD unit with it!

A Genesis 2 with a Model 2 Sega CD system (It would also have a 32X on it, but I can't find mine.).

Genesis 1, because I have a few Master System games I like to play with the Power Base Convertor, since I don't have an actual SMS. I think the Genesis 1 looks the best and the toughest anyway, plus it has that cool volume control for the headphones.

Currently on a Genesis 1 primarily, but that'll be shelved in favour of a Megadrive 2/MegaCD 2/32X combo once I get one of my Megadrive 2's double-switched.

The Genny 3...because its soooooooo sexxxy!

What? They're all black, they're all sexy. :D

I just like that idealistic appearance of a Genesis 2 with 32X and Sega CD mkII that Sega Visions used to splash all over in their pages.

I generally prefer Genny 2 as it's smaller than 1 and "fits" better with Sega CD2 (don't have CD 1) and works with 32x. Genny 3 wouldn't work with Sega CD or 32X anyway :P And I have separate SMS console so I don't need to use the PBC

I'd rather go for the Neptune unit and do away with 6 or 7 cabes you need to use to hook up Genny/CD/32x setup.

I only use my Laseractive since I don't have anything else to play Genesis games on.

I'm as pleased as can be today- I got my first Genesis 1 working, the one without the bios and territory lockout! Turns out all it took was a thorough cleaning of the contact connector.

I've got the Gennys 1-3, but always use the Genesis 2. It's small, but not too small, so it's still durable. The Genesis 3 is nice and small, but it doesn't work with the Sega CD, and isn't as heavy duty as the Genesis 1-2. Plus, I've got more Genesis 1-2 than I know what to do with, so if anything happened to it, I'd just grab a new one from the garage, heh. Gennys are so cheap, I buy them when I see them for $1 (and I do), and can use them for electronics parts, heh.

I manly use my model 2 genesis for most things, Genisis, 32x, cd.

And ocasionally ill use my model 1 for its PBC. No Nomad for me thouigh cant afford it. Id use it all the time if I did. :(

So do you lift with it or something? Seems a bit small for that.

I've always liked the looks of a model 2, but I'm so limited for shelf space at the moment that I had to go with my 3.

Genesis 3

Is there anyway to have a Genesis, 32X, Sega CD, and the powerbase converter all hooked up at the same time?

I only a Genesis 3.

If you're not equipped for the whole RGB thing, this particular flavor of Genesis responds very well to s-video mods. My main Genesis setup is one of these along with the frontloader SegaCD and the picture is absolutely beautiful.

I used to carry my Nomad all over the place, and it's still handy when you don't have a TV with you (Though you still need the Aliens vs. Predator-style truck battery pack on your back if you want to get any decent amount of playtime ;)

Used a Genesis 3 for a little while, and I do emphasise the word "little," as in "disgusting little machine."

Now I use a Genesis 2. Hard to get some games to work in it, but it works, and looks great. Yay!

I'm planning getting a used Laseractive + Genesis *and* PC-E modules someday, and a used Teradrive as well (hopefully a Model 3, but it really doesn't matter).

@ LeoAmes: Nope, you can't have a Power Base on top of a 32x, sorry.

i have a genny 1, 2, 3, and a nomad

hooked to the tv at the moment is the genny 2 with a sega cd 2 and a 32x. i am looking to pick up a sega CD 1 to match my genny 1. the nomad gets a lot of play, as it sits on the endtable next to my bed :)

I got one cheaper than that right here in the B&S forum, shipped!

I use the nomad since I have less and less room to hook up systems, so it sits next to the couch ready to be plugged into the wall when needed.
