How do you deal with frustration when you play games?

Throw the controller?

Beat up other people?

Stop and smell a rose?

Count to ten/fifty/one-hundred-seventy-five-thousand?

Me? I get so mad at games all the time. It's hard for me to enjoy them sometimes...

Turning it off and coming back later always helps, when you play with a clear head you have a better chance of getting past whatever is causing you problems.

No particular order:

1) Punch the TV or smash it (that'll be fun with the 1080p TVs for the PS3)
2) Stomp and punch the console (can be expensive)
3) Punch, drop kick or throw against the wall the controller
4) Physically break the game
5) Play Street Fighter 2 and beat the game for the billionth time using your redizzy combos
6) Play Karnov (any version) and realize the game that you just played wasn't as frustrating
7) Turn the game off, watch some UFC
8) Flush the game down the toilet

Give the game to someone I cant stand so at least the torture will be put to some good use.

If a game gets so hard to the point it's damn near impossible, I walk away and return when my head's in a better state of mind. Of course, sometimes I'll reach a point where I'm like "Naw, forget it... hey I've played enough of it to get my money's worth... but this part is just too hard."

I usually beat games I set out to beat, but there are certain platformers where the end boss has 2 forms, and it's just so damn evil. DoReMi Fantasy on SFC, love it as much as I do, that last boss is wicked

I turn the game off and do something else while I cool down. Sometimes when my anger/frustration get the better of me I'll toss the controller on the ground and stomp off.

I swear at the TV. A lot. Eventually I'll put the controller down and walk away. I'm at that point with trying to beat Zelda 2 for the second time in my life.

Keep on plugging away until I beat the game or it beats me (mentally and emotionally). If I still haven't "bested" it by then, I might turn it into an Ebay sale or a trade-in.

well.. lets see.

1) punch controller.
2) swear and say "what the fuck" like it was not supposed to happen.
3)turn off the system or put in a diffrent game.

One of those three, rarely I punch the controller, but I'm a swearing machine.

Sometimes I get so mad I don't know what I'm doing. I'll punch myself in the head. That's weird. :D

How long can it take you to get frustrated?

Just to do something different and since I'm learning Java right now I'm going to try to explain this with a simple bit of source code. It might need a little debugging, but you'll get the idea.

public static goToGamefaqs {

http://www.gamefaqs.com};

public static main {

boolean successAtGame;
int tryToWin = 0;
String curseAtTV= ("F--K!");

for (int limitsOfPatience = 0, limitsOfPatience > 30, limitsOfPatience++) {
do {
System.out.println(curseAtTV);
tryToWin++;
}
while (successAtGame != true);
}

goToGamefaqs ();

}

Usually, I will grip the controller really hard and rapidly smack it into my lap. It's like the controller's a baby and I want it to shut up.

Oh, and with the Shinobi bonus rounds, I give the ninja that evaded me a right uppercut. It's like "Arrgh! Stupid ninja! You were only an inch tall a minute ago!" Seriously, why does Joe Musashi have no trouble beating up hordes of dumb ninjas in the normal levels, but when it's a bonus round, he just stands there while the green ninja gets ready to beat him up? I mean, he IS a "Master Ninja," after all. The manual says so. If they ever make a Wii version of Shinobi, they should allow you to beat up that frickin' green ninja in the bonus rounds. I don't care whether I get to flick shuriken or not, just let me beat him up!

Okay, tirade over. That felt good.

SWEAR.

Often, you will hear me say stuff like, "f*ckin' bumble bee ness" If playing Smash Bros. Melee.

Lately, I'll just quit the game and do something else. When I'm in a better mood, I go back to playing the game. Sometimes I would express my frustration by hitting the desk with my fist. When I do I know that I should quit the game for a good long time.

When I played Empire on my Atari ST, I would pound the desk frequently. So many times, in fact, I would frequently bruise my hand and wrist (I even cracked the wood on the desk once). One time I got so frustrated with Empire I pounded the Atari ST instead of the desk. :eek 2: It shorted out the Power supply and it cost me $80+ to replace it. I was rather embarrassed when I brought it to the store. After that I strived to find other ways to express (or suppress) my frustration.

I come here, look at the forums, and get on people's cases about not making their image sizes smaller and tell them to truncate their links. ;)

I'll take a break from it, play something else, and eventually come back to the game that is haunting me. If I can't do it that day, I try again another day.

Generally, if a game is getting too frustrating, I'll take a break from it for an hour or so and go do something else - this way I can come back to it with a fresh perspective.

Now if I really like the game, it's a different story. In that case, I curse. I curse at the game like a madman.

I've never been hard on hardware when i lose/get frustrated. I just scream a few random bad words and give it another try or turn off and calm down. :)

I scream obscenities at the tv or monitor the first few times. If it continues to give me trouble I start to punch things around me. But somehow I keep level-headed enough not to punch or smash expensive things. Although I have punched my monitor a couple times.

How you ever destroyed anything?

I have destroyed stuff as a youngster. I broke the keyboard on my Commodore 64. That was devestating at the time; I couldn't afford to get it fixed

I did eventually.

I don't hit stuff anymore. Sometimes it's hard, though. :-(

When you have as many games as we do I just simply put it back in the case/box and back on my shelf. From there I'll probably never touch it ever again. Too interested in too many games to get frustrated at one.
