Does anyone know if it's possible to play PSP games on a TV screen?
I saw an adapter for sale Fry's which fits over the PSP screen and outputs the signal to TV (costs about $50), but it looked cheaply made and I doubted whether it would actually look halfway decent.
Has anyone tried this or know of a better method?
Thanks in advance...

there is one that supposidly mounts on, no soldering needed, I heard it was pretty good. Don't recall the name. Don't get me wrong though its not like as clear as a GBA player or anything.

There's three products I've seen and two are basically identical...a thing fits over the screen and mirrors reflect the image to a CCD that is then converted to a video signal. The other product provides a better picture, but you have to replace th back of you PSP with their back cover, solder some wires, and place the PSP on a dock. You can then hook a PS2 pad to the dock and play with that.

it's called psp2tv, and it's made by a group called teamxtender, you pretty much replace the controller motherboards with a modified version so it adds ps2 controller support.
I have a kit sitting in the house...but too chicken to do anything.

Thanks one and all for the replies thus far!
It's just that I am getting a little older...cough, cough....and playing Gradius Collection on that small PSP screen, nice though it is, gets to my eyes after a while.
I wish Konami would just help all of us out and publish Gradius Collection (and their other classics...) for the PS2 or Xbox similar to what Capcom and Taito did with their Classics/Legends series.... :/
I mean, c'mon Konami, you published Konami Arcade Classics for the PS1, why not something like this? Capcom apparently made enough $ from Vol. 1 to publish Vol. 2 of their series for PS2/Xbx (coming out soon I believe??)
In any case, has someone here actually SEEN or played the type you attatch to the PSP screen?
Much appreciated...

I've seen it as at my best buy
it feels like a periscope attached to a capture device, that plugs into the TV.

I wish all handhelds would do with the Sega Nomad did. The Sega Nomad had a video out, and a controller input on it, so that you could use it like a regular home video game system if you wanted to. Of course, most people will say that putting a video out and a controller input on it, will make the device bigger and uglier, but wait.....
Sony could have made a very small, proprietary plug, the size of one of those mini USB plugs. One for video and one for the controller. Both would require you to seperately purchase a dongle type thing that would plug into it, and then allow to use all the normal Playstation type video cables, and the other dongle would allow you to use a dualshock on it. The downside, is that the inclusion of this would probabaly add about $10 to the manufacturing of the system, but I think they could make alot of that up, with the sales of the video and controller dongles.
I'm hopefull that any brand new handhelds to the market (Microsoft?) will feature this ability. Now many people might wonder why the hell somebody would want to do this anyways, the point of a portable gaming system, is so that you can play it on the go, and if you are going to hook it up to a TV, why not use a full fledged home console anyways? Well, all those points are correct, but it's about flexability. It's just really nice to have that option there, if you would like to use it.

Any new updates in this area from anyone?
One simple answer to the "age-old" question as to why people would want to play games designed for a portable system like the PSP on a TV has to do with "old-age."
Obviously the majority users of these products are in their teens, 20's and 30's. However, as life progresses to the mid-to-late 40's and beyond ;)
it becomes increasingly difficult to SEE smaller size screens like the GBA, DS and PSP. It is a simple fact of life -- most of us, hopefully, will grow old someday. Then and only then will many of us appreciate the great eyesight we once had when we were younger...
As Anthony noted, for most companies, unfortunately it comes down to the bottom line. I owned both a Genesis and a Nomad back in the day, so that was not an issue for me, but it sure was nice to be able to bring just my Nomad with me when I was on the road and hook it up to my hotel-room TV.
However, now with systems like the PSP, GBA, and DS, we are looking at games which are exclusive to those formats and thus not easily playable on a larger screen.
In the decades to come, what will happen to many of the 30-something gamers, and eventually the 20-something gamers? Will they stop playing portable games and leave them to the new generation? I certainly hope not. While I personally still use my handheld systems "as designed," when I am at home and need a handheld fix like PSP Hot Shots Open Tee or Gradius Collection, I would really appreciate having the option to play them on a larger screen. Is that so wrong?....

Dave, it looks like that PSP 2 TV has made some improvements since this topic started.
It looks like their device now attaches to your PSP without the need to open it up or rewire it. And, they have a bunch of screenshots and videos of the thing in action. Check it out!

Also, you might want to consider the Blaze TV Adaptor. It seems to perform better than the PSP 2 TV device.
