How rare is the jewel case version of Mortal Kombat 3 on Playstation 1 and how much is it worth? I picked one up at Half Price Books for $6 yesterday in pretty good condition. The rarity guide here just says it's practically impossible to find. There's only long box versions on Ebay and no information anywhere on the internet. Any info is appreciated.
I got MK3 in a cardboard jewel box, is that the one you mean?

I know a collector here searched for years and years and years for one. It was his personal holy grail. Yes, it is very rare.

What makes that jeweled case more valuable then lets say the Magic Carpet one. Is it the fact that its mortal kombat or did they just not make that many prints of it?

I guess it just got a really low production run. Now, the person that was looking for this... he got it eventually in a lot of PS1 games off eBay. :) I forgot who he is but he was REALLY happy about it. :D

I'd love to find a list of all the longbox games that have jewel case versions, as i'm trying to keep my entire collection jewel case (I know I have to have longboxes for some games like return fire :-/)

That would be Dangerboy...Lord, God and King of PS1 variants. He helped me end my quest for a longbox version of Space Hulk by deducing the one that had been seen was probably just a promotional box.

Its damn rare. Its worth what someones willing to pay for it. The game isn't the hard to get part, its just that damn packaging. In the years i've known DB i've seen him stumble across 2 or 3 in pieces. Hell all i've personally got of one is just the front cover to the manual. If your interested in selling just send me a PM.

I had no Idea they made a Jewel Case Version
There are 4 MK3 in jewel case on UK ebay right now, one's shipping worldwide (GBP 3.99, $7.00)

Yes, but the one you linked to is a PAL version. The US cover looks nothing like that.

The PAL PS1 MK3 will ALWAYS be in a jewel case cos they stopped doing longboxes before the PS1 hit Europe.

Stu's correct. It's not the game, it's just the packaging.
Sort of like how Stadium Events isn't worth $1,000, its stupid label and title screen are.
You'd be the first person outside of myself to have found it. Quite a feature find. It took me some 5 years of truly looking to piece one together from 3 separate auctions. I'd like to comment I'm just a bit jealous of your find. ^_-
As for the long box list, I have a so-far-so-good one at the below address, it badly needs to be redone, but so far school/work do not allow me much access to the web-site (well, all of the web-site....)

I actually own a jewel case MK 3, I never thought about how rare it is, heck I never would've even guessed it was that rare. O_O
