Does anyone know what issue # of egm feature an interview with a developer on the process of developing a game and how it turned into a bad game? Sorry if this is in the wrong section.

"How Bad Games Get Made" Issue 159, page 44, is the one you are looking for. This has to be nearly my fave article ever in EGM.

Hope this is what you are looking for.

Speaking of that article does anyone know what game they were talking about? I always guessed Blues Bros 2000.

Anyone?

I remember the article and guessed it was the Blues Brothers 2000 as well. The article made it clear that it was a movie license, so that narrows the field quite a bit there.

I thought they said it was Mission Impossible on the N64.... could be wrong though.

THATS IT!!!!! Thanks I gotta ton of old issues but its difficult to pin point the right one with the stack. Yeah its my fav as well.

I dont think it was the blues brothers, it sounds more like mission impossible.

It would make sense since the game was oftened delayed and changed drasticly in the final version.

The people who took over the dev of mission impossible due to lack of progress on the project said the game was running at 10fps and the polygon count was waaay too high.

Which makes me wonder why the refelection on the mirror was on the psx version yet was taken out of the 64 one.

Anyone have that uk 64 magazine that had a huge multi page artical durring the early dev of mission impossible?

I'm going to have to find that article in my stack of old EGMs. I thought they said something like "This was a licensed game for a movie that should have never been a game". That doesn't sound like it describes Mission Impossible which is a natural for a licensed game (+ I heard the game wasn't that bad)

Aye, MI is one of my guilty pleasures. "Not like that!" Aaahh, gotta love the French voice acting.

Dont get me wrong on mission impossible,I enjoy it.

I sometimes pull out the 64 to play it and hear those cheasy soundbites.

Although reading the artical again, it does make me wonder more.

Cause it mentions a movie that had a dismal box office take. Which means this was a film that bombed and became a 64 game.

Blue brothers wouldnt make sense since the film did well and there was a snes game that was made.

But Blues Brothers 2000 was in fact, dismal.

Yes, the sequel sucked and bombed big time. I thought this game when I read the article, too... I need to go back and re-read. It was pretty good.

Blue Brother 2000 was not made by Acclaim, it was by Titus. The same company that made Superman 64, and Carmageddon 64 besides making blues brothers 2000.

For the EGM impaired, is there a reprint of this article somewhere on the internets?

I found the article. Here are a couple quotes:

“It was released a few years ago for the N64”.

The issue is from 2002, which would be about right for BB 2000 (which probably came out in 99). I think the first MI movie came out back in ’96, with the game showing up by '98 or so.

“Game X began life as an awful movie with a dismal box office take. Why a game publisher bought the rights to this movie remains a mystery. As the producer on Game X later told me ‘The shopped it around for ages and never had any takers because it was such a dumb license”.

Sounds like BB2000 to me…Mission Impossible was a huge box office hit.

Ah i forgot about the sequal (which makes sense casue its so damn awful). The only thing that threw me off was when he said they were trying to shop it around for years. However, dan akroyed for years was trying to get the sequal off the ground after john belushi died. I guess it could only be that game sine i know titus made alot of awful games and is no long existant.
