I found this at the Salvation Army. I know it's some Japanese Mega Drive ripoff, but I'm not sure which one. My guess is Strider on account of that fiery slashing weapon he's using.

I feel like an idiot. I just dragged my Genesis out of storage to try roll the dice and see if it would work, and after locating the power and AV adapters, I fired everything up to find....
Mega Drive carts don't fit into Sega Genesises. :embarrassed:
I know, I know.

Take a phillips-head screwdriver and take the top off, then sand down the top part of the genesis, the opening for the cart slots to make it fit.

I haven't done any importing of Mega Drive games at all (so therefore don't really hold me to this), but I'm pretty sure it should be able to fit into a Genesis 3.

Yup, unless for some strange reason it's region locked, then you have to install a switch. The fit may be tight (varies between Genesis 3's it seems, oddly enough) but it should work. Will also fit in a JVC X'Eye as it has a Mega Drive sized cartridge slot, of course if it's region locked you'd need to add a switch there too. Doubt a pirate would be region locked though. LOL

Japanese carts are not region locked on US systems. They just do not fit. No chips are needed.

At least you didn't scuff up your brand-new Contra HC Mega Drive cart trying to fit it into a Nomad, heh heh

Let's not forget to laugh at how vastly superior that is to the American box art. Ha ha!

Okay, you know what, I usually don't make posts that may be considered flames - but I'm tired of all the misinformation that's been popping up lately.

You are full of shit.
While not ALL games are region locked, MANY of them are. These require the Genesis to be switched into JPN mode. While no chips are required, you do have to modifiy your system.
Genesis 1 systems need jumper traces cut and a switch installed. The cartridge slot also needs to be widened.
Genesis 2 systems need pin 107 of the 315-XXXX chip isolated and run to +5v for USA mode and GND for JPN mode. The cartridge slot also needs to be widened.
Genesis 3 systems need a jumper removed and a switch installed. The cartridge slot should be lightly filed wider but it is not required.
JVC X'Eye systems need a jumper removed and a switch installed.
Japanese Mega Drive cartridges I know FIRST HAND that will ONLY boot in JPN mode, there are many more...

If you don't know for certian, don't post BS information. If you think something might be a certian way, then please make that clear.
...I think I need to take a breather for a few days.

UNBELIEVABLE COINCIDENCE!
So after reading this thread and considering my options for playing Japanese Mega Dive games and bootlegs such as the one pictured above, I figured the most likely scenario for me would be getting the Genesis 3, but as I tend not to go online to get my classic gaming fix, I figured it could be months or years before I ever came across a Genesis 3 in the wild.
Lo and behold, today, the VERY NEXT DAY, I went out to get some lunch and thought I'd stop by this local thrift store on the way. As I went in, I spotted a bag full of Genesis gear. I was really hoping to find a Sega CD drive so I can finally play the 23 Sega CD games I found recently, but, sadly, that wasn't the case.
However the bag contained all this:

Genesis 3
Sega 32X Adapter
Sonic & Knuckles
2 Power adapters
An inordinate amount of controllers
2 old-school Sega AV RF adapters
1 Super old-school 75? to 300? transformer
Complete In Box Aladdin for SNES (not pictured)
And, yes, the Strider pirate works fine.[/code]

$25 altogether.
Excellent deal, I charge about twice that for a USA/JPN switched Genesis 3 system alone.
