Typically, most refer to "naked" games as loose. There is already quite a bit of discussion on this just about everywhere. There are people on both sides and some in the middle. It's a matter of opinion and you can't really judge anyone else's habits.

As far as I collect, for NGPC I only get complete games. Other stuff I prefer complete, but will take loose if the price is right. I'm much more likely to take a loose cart than a disc though.

I'm the exact same way. Though, in my area, the only loose Genesis games you see are Madden '94 and the like with labels half ripped off and cobwebs on all the contacts. Still, I have wondered into thrift shops and found some pretty decent Genesis lots. I came away with one recently which had Cool Spot, Gunstar Heroes (I consider it the best Genesis game), and some decent Disney games.

If I don't have the game and its cheap, I'm buying it. As long as I can still play it, I'm happy.

I prefer Genesis games complete or at least in the original case just because they actually came in a durable, nice case until the mid 90's. It just seems a whaste that people would throw them out or lose them over the years. It would not stop me from buying a game I want, Just would not pay as much for it.

I generally try to buy only complete Genesis games. I have a small tub of loose Genny games that were part of a few lots I purchased and I think they're an eyesore.

The only time I will buy a loose Genesis game is if they're super cheap and/or rare.

And yeah, I don't mind buying NES/SNES games loose either. LOL

Most are cheap and common enough that I can wait until I find a complete copy. I won't buy a loose one, unless I'm sure I can find the box and manual later on.

First off, let me point out that I am a Sega Fanatic and got all the Sega systems excluding the Pico releaseed in America, and by far the Genesis is my all time fave system (first system I remember playing a lot and loving other than NES w/Mario and Duck Hunt when I was too young to remember hardly anything) and the Genny is what I collecto for the most (have over 100 games for it and I am an unemployed teen who's parents refuse to buy him any of that 'old game clutter', lol).

Personally, I try very very hard to not buy loose, or as ya called em 'naked' Genny games. I always like to have at least the box and I try to get my games complete if I can. I have turned down 40-50 cent games for the Genny before just because they were loose (went to my fave local used games store, got over 20 diffrent $1 Genny games complete and 'cause I bought so much and was a young regular shopper they told me 40-50 cents each if I got a lot, but I passed up all non-completes). I just dont like having many loose carts when I hope to someday have a complete Genny collection where all the games are complete, or at least in boxes to start.

If I see a rly rly good fun game or a rly rare and valuable game for Genesis loose, then of course if the price is all right I will go for it in a heartbeat if I have the recources to, but personaly I guess I am too fanatic and possably anal about my Genesis collection (I keep all my Genesis games sorted by letter on my bookshelves to display to the world in a manner where the names of each game can be seen, and if anybody moves them I have a panic attack till I get them all put back right (no kiddin)).

So, that's me, and jujst me and probably a very select few others. Any other cart based system, I am going with loose carts (NES, Atari, N64, probably SNES someday (that's right I dont got a SNES or SNES games right now, so deal with it)) and if I get a boxed game, then I guess if that every happened now I would keep the box somewhere for future use or sell it off to someone, but so far I no longer have boxes for any games on thoses systems.

When I was buying GEN games this past year I didn't care. Around May-ish I got to the point where I prefered 75% of the time to buy complete-only, since it's so easy to find them CIB still.

But mostly, if the price is right, loose doesn't bother me.

Speaking of which, I have a lot of 12 Genesis games (11 CIB) on eBay right now, last I checked it's at $3.25 and ends tomorrow... it includes Gunstar Heroes, Shadow Dancer, Toe Jam and Earl Funkotron, etc. You can check the proper eBay forum here on DP for the link. No reserve.

Loose genny and master system carts are ugly as hell so yeah, I only buy complete (or at least boxed). Trying to get good condition copies of carboard boxed genny games is a bitch, though. For any Nintendo cart- based console except the DS, I'm OK with loose since cardboard boxes suck. Instructions preferred but not mandatory. I've been meaning to get some of these (http://www.mediashelving.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=W&Product_Code=USCG&Category_Code=VHS) for my SNES and N64 carts.

Yeah, "Naked" games to me are games without the outer shell casing, and just a circuit board sitting there. It might sound crazy, but they're out there.
You think that you're pissed when you find a loose game. Try finding a game with no cart.

I don't care anymore..I just want to play the game, I don't care if the Label is ripped or..I could get the same game complete later..For Example, I picked up Conta: Hard Corps for the Genesis loose at a thrift Shop for $3..I'm going to keep the good cart in the Case & play the one I got

Back in 2000 when I began to restore my Genesis collection I had to settle for loose (naked) games. I thank Funco for this as they basically disposed of the clam shells/boxes to save space. So now 6 years later I am content with cart only Genesis games. If I can get a complete game then I go for it but I don't make it a priority to get only complete Genesis games.

Master system however is a different case. Funco never took these games so they were generally sold in the smaller market of stores say like indie shops/mom&pop game shops and have a higher percentage of games in thier clam shell. Every Master system game I have (45 or so) are all in their cases (though a handful are with out manuals). I only go for Master System games in their cases.

Ah yes, MasterSystem, I always try to get these games in at leat their boxes as well, and most of mine are complete (20 something I think).

I got one loose cart and one loose card (Alex Kidd in Miricle World and My Hero) that I got when I bought my first SMS system in a lot on eBay with some controllers, games, a 3D card adaptor, and a busted pair of 3D glasses (they still worked, they just didnt have the parts that go over ur ear so (as I was very very young back then now (preteen)) I made this system of rubber bands and paper clips that went around the glasses and then around ur head (cuttin off some blood to tha berain, buts whateverz) lol. I have now gotten a new pair of eD glasses made for a 3D computer grafx card, but they work too) and some other misc stuff.

But other than thoses two games, all my games on SMS I get boxed or complete (one good example of when ya got to settle for baxed only would be with rare games like, idk, maybe Phantasy Star (yes I got XD)!)

i dont mind loose genisis carts. however i would prefer them complete.
to make my loose genny carts look nice is to use old wooden music cassete wall hangers and organize them in there, the cassete slots are perfect for loose genisis carts. nice for display and beter than keeping them in tubs or something

Unless it's something hard to come by or extremely cheap I wont buy it without the box.
Im getting that way with all cart games. If im not reselling it im going to play it at some point and when Im not playing it I would like it to look nice on a shelf ;).

The Genesis is the one console I actively seek out boxed versions of games for. They're way more plentiful than other carts. I however won't turn my nose up at loose games if it's something I really want or the price is low.

I generally don't want loose Genny carts with Master System trailing behind a little (I don't want em, but I certainly have a few). The problem is they are so small! And it's tough to tell what game it is without pulling it out and checking. I"m actually starting to get to the point where I want ALL my games to at least be boxed, but w/ the Genny it's cheap, it looks better and it really doesn't take up too much space. Plus it's a lot easier to get the box in good condition if it's a hard clamshell.

Like pretty much any other cart-based system, if I limited myself to complete copies, I'd still be hunting down a lot of quality titles. The boxes look nice, but most of the carts have end labels (even if EA's are tiny), so it's easy to look through a drawer or shelf full of them. I made one exception though - I had to buy Virtua Racing with a box. That cart sticks out like a sore thumb (yet my Sonic & Knuckles is cart only - go figure).

EDIT MY STATEMENT: I will buy loose carts if they are what's there. If I find a boxed version later I will willing rebuy it. I never use the intructions and the boxes take up too much space in my 9x9foot room. I do like the boxes.. but I couldn't care less if it happened to be cart only.

It seems apparent I'm one of few people that think that way though >_>.

If my fiancee caught me with a naked Genesis game, she'd have my head. She just doesn't understand that they are just for playing by myself and that they don't change how I feel about her.

But honestly, I don't buy loose games of any kind that originally came with a case any more...loose cds and carts look dumb sitting next to all the "in-case" ones I have. Cardboard boxes are another story. I'll buy loose games for the system that strictly used those (like NES, VCS, SNES, etc.).

LOL I qoute myself…

But some things have change in the past two years.
I was able to score a lot of Genesis cases and now 90 percent of my Genesis games are in their case. I now prefer my Genesis games to be in their case. They display better and storage better and I am better to look at the spines and I play them more.

I did buy Out Run with out a case and the lable was worn at the crease, but I have been having a very hard time to find this game and just said F it and got it loose for $3. I love Out Run on Genesis!

For me, I generally only buy Genesis games in the case with instructions. Overall it depends on what the game is, the condition of the label and cartridge, and the price. I used to just get the cartridges, but when I finally found complete copies it was difficult to sell off the loose games afterwards. If the carts are a really good price I'll get them loose, otherwise I'm picky. I eventually want all of my Genesis games to be complete copies in good/excellent condition, it's pretty much my favourite system.

While I think everybody here would prefer to have a complete title, most of us are willing to accept the loose cart if the price reflects what we'd expect it to be or less, rarity factors in as well, I mean I have more than a few 5's and 6's for the genesis which I got for $1.50 a piece.

Yeah, that's pretty much me. I'm fine with cartridge only for most systems, but the Master System and Genesis are really nice to have boxes for. People did tend to keep the boxes more than other systems so it's not too tough to find boxed. Looks good on the shelf and much easier to display.

How do you play anything below the top-most row of carts without everything toppling like a giant plastic Jenga tower?
