I recall "Tails" originally being referred to as "Two Tails". In fact, my cousin took quite awhile to stop calling the character by that name.

After looking through several EGMs and such, I can't seem to find the orginal source of the name "Two Tails". Surely my cousin and I didn't just independently invent that name? Unfortunately, he died a couple of years ago, so I can't double check with him on this.

Did anyone else read this as the original name of Sonic's pal?

From SUPER PLAY issue # 2 December 1992 page 8 (I actually read this Two-Tails business for the 1st time yesterday... the irony huh?)

"Mr Nuts is, as you can probably tell, a rather large squirrel, who wanders around a series of (very pretty) platform environments, throwing hazelnuts at equally sizeable wasps, hedgehogs and other woodland sprites. He himself is a rather appealing character, not unlike Sonic's new pal Two Tails (from Sega's new Sonic 2). Expect a release next Summer"

Hope that helps! This is also the same issue where I discovered those wild Zelda facts I recently posted here (Robin Williams loved the NES games so much he named his daughter Zelda! etc.)

Awesome!

We must have read that off the rack, since I don't have it in my "library".

Thanks for solving that mystery for me.
