View Full Version : So am I like the only one not having fun with Xbox Live?

Whenever I get online with a certain game I keep running into the same people over and over again. Just talking like there's no tommorrow. Trash talking, making conversation about nothing, and my personal favorite "Do you have your headset on?" question that is repeated at least 4 times until they realize you do not have your headset on.
I wish I didn't have to listen to them through my TV's speakers at all. Since, isn't obvious that if I don't want the headset on, what are the odds I still have to listen to some guy insult me in words I can't understand. Let alone, internet words like "pwn" being spoken in proper english just really kills the fun in the game.
Many tell me to stay away from it or just play against friends. Yet a majority of the time, when you do add people to your list that you are friends with, they aren't normally online the same time you are or they have games that you don't, yet you're in the mood for a good match of DOOM or UMK3 perhaps, so you're stuck with some guy talking like Rapper Jay-Z at you.
Even after Xbox, they still continue the same garbage with the 360, it's like they never really gave any more thought on improving the voice chat feature on the 360.
Honestly, I'd rather just enjoy my game then hear some kid scream "Mortal Kombat" in my ear.
I'm not having fun with Xbox Live, never have even with the original Xbox.
So what I am to do? All I have in mind right now is to just focus on downloading demos, extra content in games, videos, and Xbox Live Arcade games I wanna buy in the future. Maybe I should just focus on the single player aspects of it instead of trying to get the full deal. Yet it kills me that I can't even enjoy a peaceful online battle without the annoyance
I love my 360, but this is a thrill kill.

I feel the same way as you do about it. There is a way where you don't have to listen to their voices through the TV I believe. I usually switch it to voices off and don't use the headset unless they are REAL friends of mine. I also only really use XBL for downloadable stuff. I'm not much of a people person so I keep to myself playing multiplayer.
What are your profile settings, they have "underground" and "recreation" ect.
I found out when I swapped to recreation, far less little kids are around.
I think there is a family one.. and they take compaints very serious in that one, I'd bet.
Add guys like me to your list, I promise not to swear in your ear or scream. Check out this website, it's for 25+ year old guys and girls, ones that don't do that crap.

Welcome to the world of online console gaming. And it'll be the same on the PS3 too.

You could always plug the headset in and lower the volume all the way on it. You don't even have to wear it if you don't want to...just lay it down next to you.
The reasons you stated above are exactly why I only play with friends on Xbox Live.

I really dont mind anything that you mention. That's just standard for online anything. Doesn't bother me.
However, I DON'T really enjoy XBLive all that much. Matter o' fact my 360 is usually unplugged from any network at this point. I personally think it's just kinda stale if anything.
So yeah, count me as a guy who doesn't have fun with XBLive.. but not for any of the reasons you cited :P

Thats why I only play friends, and if I play a stranger, I unplug the mic and don't subject myself to the AHOLES out there on XBL.. Its not horribly out of control, its just there are people out there that are lame, and get off on saying shit to people online. You gotta take the good with the bad online, sadly, there is more bad than good. Unless you only play with people you know.

You're not alone. According to my 360, the last time I played a multi-player game online was over 150 days ago.
I don't have problem with the dumbasses and 7 year olds that most people here do, I'm just sick of playing basically the same deathmatch or capture the flag in every single game.
The games themselves may be different, but they all play exacly alike.
I'm waiting for a truly unique multiplayer experience.

Oh - and I know most of you will point out that Phantasy Star Universe is the most recent game in my gamercard - I have yet to play it online.
And I wont get a hunter's liscense until I've beaten the single player mode. There is always that idiot, out there who totally spoils the games ending for everyone.

Well speak for yourself LOL .
Most of us are mature, unless you get stuck playing with Mgriff. I'm on quite a bit and to be honest I don't hear alot of trashtalking. Maybe its just the games that I play or I'm used to it.

Yeah I played on Live once and it was my only time the people are so freaking ridiculous and I swear I have never seen so many variations on how to spell halofreak and it was not a fun experience at all. At least with computers the people can be pricks but with out all the annoying kiddy voices.

I dunno, I kinda get a kick out of it. It's kinda like listening to Springer while playing PGR or whatever.
My personal favortie is the lone grrl gamer in the room that all the other males feel the need to question ad nauseum.
"do you like, have a boyfriend?" "what kinda game you into?" "yeah that game rulz."

I am on Xbox Live and love playing Halo 2 still, I was a late bloomer on this game, diden't get into it until this year. It's fun until the imature and stupid teenagers bad mouth you, scream, and play music in the background loud. Heck, my 16 year old brother gets on there and plays me across town, and he sometimes gets on my nerves with his poor attitude and foul mouth. I'm 24, love playing Halo 2, and would love to have a mature group to play Halo with. My gamer tag is:
XHEAT99
Add me to your friend list if you still play Halo and don't want someone running his mouth throughout the game. I feel better already.

Yes I hate it when people ask me something that they shouldn't ask.
"Where do you live?"
"How old are you?"
Although some of you think thats OK to give out online, I feel that it is better to keep it to myself.
Oh and you got to hate how people can be assholes.. Blasting rap "music" in the background, And (True story) Once I sent a message to a guy when we were playing a match in Siants row because he was blasting rap music in the background, And I asked him Please turn the music down, And awhile later he sent me a voice message saying "Yo Dickhead I ain't turning off SHIT!"
This user would be SIX_ONE_FOR.
I suppose the only reason That I "do" xbox live Is because it is the only online gaming service i have.

I just got on XBL last week for the first time and I don't like it. I got my router mainly for the Wii and the DS + my friend in Flordia is on XBL so I can talk to him. Thing is he doesn't have any of the games I have or more like I don't have the games he has. I played DOA4 and I just don't like the 'tudes of those punks who play fighters and talk junk. I've had the 360 for a year and can do with out the online thing. I'll just stick to playing with my friend if we ever get the same game otherwise I'll use it to talk with my friend as its cheaper than a phone bill plus we have the camera so it's pretty cool like a video phone of the future.
I don't like playing with people I don't know so thats why I don't play online.
of note I was playing Tetris DS online and that is quite fun i have to admit. Straight up game play no names no faces no gamer tags no reps just one on one tetris win or loose game over.

I'm pretty sure you are just the only one having problems.
I personally don't mind hearing peoples' voices, usually we can work on a strategy if it's a team-based game. I'm just glad there is some communication at all.
Which brings me to my next point: The Nintendo DS's WFC sucks ass. I HATE not being able to communicate with anyone. It's the reason why I don't play on Wi-Fi Connection that much. Stupid Nintendo and their friend codes...

I adore playing with friends on Live. Totally rad.
I hate playing with random people on Live. Apparently, I'm a *insert racial slur* that totally loves putting baseball bats up my butt, and at the same time, I'm supposed to kiss someone's ass? Did I just hear that?

I stopped playing games on Live with strangers ever since an experience with Halo 2 where a kid would not stop singing at the top of his lungs for the entire game.
As much as it may suck trying to get a big game going at times, my advice is to stick to your friends list and add any normal people you may wind up playing with because they're on the friends lists of your friends. (Hope that made sense)

When I am kicking ass its the greatest. When I am getting my ass kicked it sucks.
