If you have collected systems over the years you know there is that small window in which major stores start to mark down relatively new games and systems and then poof, the system is yanked out of retail and the only place to find it is FleaBay, pawn shops and, to my main point, thrift stores.

So this weekend I found my first real thrift store Gamecube buy. A original purple controller and an in the box copy of MC Groovz Dance Craze game and mat. I was very surprised to see the wonderful system already showing up in the wild. I am both excited and yet saddened to see this great system moving into the classic era.

When I look back at the dreamcasts' passing I am still a bit surprised that I do not find more dreamcast stuff in the thrifts. I wonder if this is because in general people are more in tune to the possibility of something becoming collectable and not getting rid of it? So would this mean it will be next to impossible to find Gamecube stuff in the wild?

What do you foresee for the Gamecube collector in the near future? And when will the Gamecube become a classic system?

Oh come now, The gamecube isn't going to be near as hard to find as Dreamcast.. Not in my area, anyway. The dreamcast didn't sell well enough to be common in thrift stores, But the gamecube has well past that mark.

But yes, It is good to hear that more gamecube games and accessories are coming to thrift stores. I have been looking to buy another gamecube so I could paint it.

I've been finding games for the system in thrift stores (Salvation Army/Goodwill) for the past year now. In fact, I found the Game Cube I use in a Goodwill.

There will always be a sizable number of people who purchase any system that have no idea the system or some of the games may be worth something.

I don't know anybody here who would call N64 a classic system, so it will be a good long time before anybody says that about Game Cube.

I would say that the N64 is already considered classic. Can you walk into any store now and buy new N64 systems or games? To me if you can't buy it new in a retail store then it's "classic". I definitely think that Cube stuff will take a huge jump in collectability in the near future. As soon as the Wii hits, Nintendo will drop the Cube like a bad habit. I know the Wii has Cube support built in, but look how fast Microsoft abandoned the Xbox when the 360 came out. To all my fellow collectors on this site I would say to get the Cube games that you really want now because it won't be long before they will be out of print, hard to find, and jacked up by ebayers and flea vendors. You know how you pass on that game you want thinking I'll pick it up one of these days and then before you know it you can't find it anywhere. I don't know about you guys, but I really hate that feeling.
