i've always wondered why there has never been a street fighter beat 'em up. the series took cody, guy, hugo (basically andore), sodom, & rolento..and put them into versus fighters. yet, we never saw a street fighter spinoff that had ryu & company fighting bison's goons in a beat 'em up format...not even as an option mode like "boost" in guilty gear. its always urked me.

That said, Mortal Kombat spun off into two beat-em-ups. We know how those turned out.

Shaolin Monks was pretty good IMO.

There are more than a few "Beats of Rage" games that use SF characters.

I understand these aren't "official" but i think thats about as close as you are going to get.

There was that sorry sub-zero game for the PSX which technically is a beat'em up and it was god awful. I forgot its exact name though. I want to say it had something with mythology in the name. Any ideas?

Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub Zero. The game totally sucks, mostly due to the rather extreme difficulty.

Final Fight was originally going to be called Street Fighter '89, but Capcom decided it was too different from the original SF, and changed it to FF.

Doh! Yeah, I was thinking MK Special Forces and Sub Zero. Shaolin Monks was great.

I recall reading somewhere that Final Fight was originally going to be a direct sequal to Street fighter but they ended up instead using new characters and made it a stand alone game. It makes sense that way, create new charcters for most of their new games, some will take off, others will die and make room for new more profitable Capcom licenses. That way they can make direct sequals with their tried & true formulas and characters (street fighters) and make new games with fresh characters without oversaturating the market with the same old faces. Kind of the opposite strategy Nintendo uses.
That's my theory anyways.

More recently megaman has been the exception though, with the RPG style GBA games and command mission on PS2. They seem to be milking that cash cow for all it's worth.

Even Tekken III had a Law sub-game beat em up... I remember it being fun in a guilty pleasure kind of way, but of course as a sub-game could not be fairly compared to a full beat em up like Streets of Rage or Final Fight.

What about Street Fighter 2010 on the NES? That game starred Ken.

My question is, does anyone actually like that game? I'm positive there are several members here that like it, but I am at the opposite end of the spectrum. Attaching the SF franchise to that game was an insult at the time.

Mighty Final Fight, on the other hand, was incredibly sweet, though understandably more palatable now considering it's later release date.

A CPSIII Final Fight could have been truly mind blowing. An SF beat 'em up could have been cool, but a tricked out FF would have been incredible.

Semi OT, how bad is MK Special Forces? I'm sure its awful, but I want it for the collection. Finding a complete MK Mythologies: Sub Zero complete was tough for me until I looked at the DP store.

yes. a cpsIII game of final fight would rock. Too bad its never gonna happen, they released a total of 6 games on that hardware,4 i the U.S. I think. About the topic, no, Im sure I dont need a street fighter beat em up,thats what we got final fight for anyway. a cameo apperance of street fighter characters wouldn't hurt though, like cammy in final fight streetwise.

I always wanted to see a gotdamn fighting game/RPG hybrid set in the Street Fighter universe.

Sort of like the School Life game in the Japanese PSone Rival Schools.

Choose male or female. Customise the way your character looks. Pick a fighting style. Name them. Run them through different scenarios. Train, earn money and EXP. Learn new skills, etc. Enter into the street fighter tournament. Interact with famous street fighters.

Something like that would be fun (for me at least).

That was one of the more shameless examples of grafting a story into a Japanese game when publishing it in the US. Mobygames has some trivia on the subject.
