I've been thinking about this a bit lately. I've been trying to narrow down my top 5 Treasure titles. It's a tough one. Right now I'm thinking (in no particular order) :

Radiant Silvergun
Alien Soldier
Gunstar Super Heroes
Hajime No Ippo (something like that)
I can't come up with #5

What are yours?

I am thinking that you are trying to find a happy medium between super rare and semi-rare my suggestion for your fifth if this is the case would be Panzer Dragoon Saga, because it seems to fall in the same area with the other games.

I meant games developed by Treasure. Sorry if that was unclear!

PD Saga wasn't a Treasure game >_>

I'd toss stretch panic in there, simply because it had Dead or Alive beat at it's own game by offering both overly large bouncy titties AND the ability to pull at them.

LOL

Gag! Strect Panic is a tech demo pretending to be a game!

SIN & PUNISHMENT, man, SIN & PUNISHMENT. One of the N64's coolest and best games. Get the game and a simple pass-through convertor or even a Gameshark and see what the fuss is about. The game's dialogue is all in English, too.

My favorite Treasure games in order...

Sin & Punishment
Gunstar Heroes
Radiant Silvergun
Yu Yu Hakusho
Bakuretsu Muteki Bangaioh (N64 version)
Silhouette Mirage (Saturn version)
Astro Boy: Omega Factor
Dynamite Headdy
Ikaruga
Guardian Heroes
Alien Soldier

I'm on the fence about Light Crusader, Mischief Makers, and McDonalds. I haven't spent much time with them.

I hear Rakugaki Showtime is awesome but I've never played it.

It should be Bangai-O....

How come the N64 Bangai-O is better than Dreamcast? I don't have the N64 version, so I'm curious as to why you made that choice.

Nah, I meant Bakuretsu Muteki Bangaioh... the proper name for the Japan-only N64 game. Bangai-O is the Dreamcast port renamed for other markets like the US and the UK.

Don't get me wrong... the DC port looks much better and has no slowdown (something that the N64 game has in abundance when things get crazy in later levels) but the scoring system was changed for the DC and I like the N64 system better. If you get a huge combo in the N64 version you get to choose between more life, increased weapon power, and something else. Plus there are powerups... the Dreamcast game has none! I must admit I like the N64 control better plus the game is easier than the DC game.

There you have it.

Sorry - my post was meant for the original poster. I wasn't trying to correct you. :embarrassed:

Need to chime in on this one. Here are my personal picks:

1. Gunstar Heroes - Toss up between this and my #2, but I had to go with Gunstar because it is just so perfect and timeless.

2. Radiant Silvergun - The shmup fan in me wanted to make this my #1. People say this is overrated because they resent having to pay $150 for it. The game is a masterpiece on all levels; especially with the Saturn mode.

3. Guardian Heroes - One of the best beat 'em ups ever, and a Saturn classic. Has more replay value than most other games in its genre. It also has that unmistakable Treasure vibe.

4. Astro Boy: The Omega Factor/Tetsuwan Atomu: Atom Heart no Himitsu - Treasure's triumphant GBA masterpiece. Would be #3 if it weren't a licensed property. That said, it is easily Treasure's best licensed game, and they were definitely the best choice, match made in heaven developer for the license. They truly did the iconic source material justice. US version has vastly improved enemy placement.

5. Sin and Punishment - Easily the absolute most intense N64 game. Also the first game of this type to get the control 100% right. A shame it was left in Japan.

Honorable Mentions: Ikaruga, Alien Soldier, Dynamite Headdy, Yu Yu Hakusho Makyo Toitsusen, Bakuretsu Muteki Bangaioh

I know, I left Ikaruga and Alien Soldier out of the top 5, but my reason is that their difficulty is nothing short of punishing, and that fact alone reduces their impact for me. Well balanced challenge is something I personally value greatly, and the Top 5 I selected are much better choices in this sense. That said, it is tough to rank these games because they are all so incredible.

Treasure does have its share of stinkers though, with Stretch Panic/Freak Out/Hippa Linda being the bottom of the barrel. Tiny Toons: Scary Dreams/Buster's Bad Dream and Light Crusader round out the bottom 3 for me. Even the incredibly average licensed Dragon Drive is better than these three. Tiny Toons does function as a nice gameplay test for Astro Boy though. (dis)Honorable mention here is the egregiously overpriced Rakugaki Showtime; with said price figuring into the equation. The game is not terrible by any means, but it is definitely not worth what it commands. High price removed, it still falls somewhere in the bottom third.

Oh, and as a final note, Advance Guardian Heroes is probably the most underrated Treasure game. It is much better than all the reviews I have read made it out to be. Well worth picking up. Just don't expect the first game and you will be fine.

I really liked Gradius V. Moreso than Ikaruga even, if only a little.

Astro Boy was one of the greatest game experiences I have ever had.

Gunstar Heroes was perfection on the Genesis.

Ikaruga was simple in design, but complex in execution. Likewise, RS was complex in design, but quite simple in execution.

Gradius V was awesome but Jesus fuck it was hard.

Bangai-O was fun. Really.

I never had a chance to even SEE Sin & Punishment.

Personally?

1. Ikaruga
2. Astro Boy
3. Gunstar Heroes
4. Gradius V.
5. Something awesome, probably S&P if I had palyed it.
