I was at my local game stop yesterday and I was informed that they were taking reserves for Halo 3, and that there would be not 1, not 2, but 3 editions of the game, the standard release, limited edition and a $100 legendary edition with a spartan helmet and tons of other stuff. I was told that they were only doing limited reserves on this and would stop after this weekend.

BTY it is $25 to reserve the legendary edition.

EDIT: Game Stop has called everyone (March 16, 2007) and informed that the new suggested retail price for the Halo 3 Legendary edition will be priced at a whopping $129.99!

According to gamestop this isn't supposed to be available till November of next year.

Aren't we getting just a wee bit ridiculous?

probably ridiculous for regular editions, but my guess is stores wont be getting many "legendary" editions so I can see preordering those in advance. No way in hell I am spending $100 for halo though, I will be fine with the $60 edition.

I think they should keep pushing the ceiling till people stop buying. I bet they'll sell every single one of the Legendary Editions.

EBX at my mall has a sign on the window that they're now taking Halo 3 reserves.

But it's Halo guys!

My name is Nick, and I paid $100 for a not so limited edition 360 game.

Well, Halo or not I'll buy it for the game... and if so inclined I'll pay extra for the nifty helmet and other stuff, IF it's worth it, might be some cool junk.

If it's not, I'll pass for the regular version.

But it's not Half-Life, Counter-Strike, Unreal, System Shock, DOOM, Battlefield, Marathon, The Elder Scrolls, Ultima Underworld, Tribes, F.E.A.R., Quake, Team Fortress, Duke Nukem, Black, Clive Barker's Undying, Timesplitters, Perfect Dark, Wolfenstein, Mortyr, Goldeneye, Metal Gear Solid 3 online, Resident Evil X: Code Veronica Battle Mode in first person, Corridor 7, The Terminator: Rampage, or Breakdown.

It's also not Contra. Who the hell needs it?

People who like Halo that would also like a miniature Spartan helmet.

$100 for the Spartan version? Not bad. Too bad FPS games make me really sick. :(

WOW. Whoever comes up with these ideas gains my highest respect. He just doubled the price of a game using a helmet. More capatilist ingenuity, just like xbox live marketplace.

Best part about this?

I know plenty of fools still complaining about the PS3's price point, but then immediately tell me they're buying this $100 special edition.

I'm sorry, I find spending $100 a game (Oh, the micro-rape-ments will be interesting as well) more ridiculous than spending $600 on a console. Both are still absurd though.

Amen to that brother. I hate people who single-handedly define hypocrisy.

Speaking of missing the point...you release a console and lose money on it hoping to gain back what you lost in sales of GAMES AND ACCESSORIES. I'm not saying that this thing isn't overpriced, but launching at $100-200 more than any successful US console, regardless of whether it includes an unproven movie format, is pretty boneheaded.

Okay? I'm not saying it's a good move by Sony, and I don't think I even implied that. I'm just sick of people bitching about certain things being expensive like the PS3, but then buying Lumines-micro-rapement-to-the-max-Live on XBLA. It's annoying.

Uh, aren't they releasing like 3 different versions of Halo 3. If you don't want to spend the $100 on the legendary set, buy the cheaper version.

It's really easy.

I might get it if it looks like it will be hard to find, just so I can flip it on ebay.

There will be 3 versions of Halo 3, and the Legendary Edition is supposedly going to be a very limited run. Those that don't want to spend the projected $99.99 can either pick up the regular version at $59.99 or the collector's edition at $69.99.

Here's a pic of the Legendary Edition packaging

Heh, viral marketing?

Nope, just information on it since there seems to be a lot of confusion as to what the thing looks like. Hell, some stores are claiming the helmet is full sized, which the picture clearly shows it isn't.[/quote]

I'll probably get the middle edition. I have absolutely no use for a helmet, and I've got nowhere to put that game holder thing. Hopefully there won't be any content missing from the middle version, just the accessories.

Alright hopefully i dont get ripped on too much, but i have preordered two legendary editions this past weekend, and am thinking about a third. One to keep sealed, one to open, and one to sell. Oh and just for the record im not one of those guys bitchin about the increasing cost of video game products, so please dont be too harsh when you guys start saying that its stupid to get one let alone more of these packs.

I'm bumping up this topic with some new info...

I received a call from Gamestop today (16 MARCH 2007) stating that Microsoft has raised the price from $99.99 to $129.99 for the Halo 3: Legendary Edition. I guess they saw how much demand there was and decided to make a little more $$$.

Someone should edit the title.

I think $129.99 is more than I willing to pay. I think I'm going to cancel my preorder and se the $20 I put down to buy God of War 2.

Anyone else think $129.99 is over-the-top?

$130 flipping $$$'s!?

Get a life MS. Everyone should cancel thier pre-order and have MS sitting on a bunch of unsold Lengendary Halo 3's.

I was on the fence about ordering the legendary edition but now I'm going to pass on it. WTF kind of reasoning it to sell the set for $100 for months and then all of a sudden jack the price up an extra $30?!?

This is beyond ridiculous. Does Microsoft even realize you can buy a brand new PS2 or DS Lite for that price? Lunacy, I tell you, pure lunacy!!!! :grrr:

LOL $129.99! Are you out of your mind? It better be gold plated or something. They need to bring it back to a reasonable $99.99, although I believe the price hike might be from higher than expected production costs, not greed.

03-16-2007, 07:48 PM
well i have it reserved at gamestop, but its starting to sound like the "legendary" edition with the helmet is going to be mass produced. you know, at first they said the helmet is going to be a collector's item and only a few are going to be produced...well i doubt this is the case now. im debating whether i should go get my 50$ back that i reserved it with or just leave it there.

Frica89

dude I bet that helmet costs them like $1:50 to manufacture...its BS.

i got hte same phone call. i had to put 25$ down, gonna put another 50 down within the next couple weeks and then 20 buck s amonth till it comes out. wont hurt too much.

the helmets are serialized. and no, they wotn be mass produced. do you guys think maybe took too many preorders and hopes pple will cancel w/ raise in price

Gorez
03-16-2007, 08:06 PM
thats what i was thinking Poofta...but if not many people will cancel, then i believe they are going to have waaay too many produced...meaning the serialization wont mean crap.

Thanks for the bump! I'm on the title right now. I just got the call today.

The call does mention that if you still wish to receive the "legendary edition" than do nothing. iI you are not happy with the price increase, it suggest that you visit the store you placed the reserve and move it down to a regular edition or limited edition, or just cancel it all together.

I got the call and went to the EB Games where I reserved it and told them to shove it. MS is doing this because they know the Halo nuts will spend any price for this. Just ridicolous.

this just in:

Halo 3 has been pushed back to fall 2008, the price has gone up to $299.99, and it now comes with a miniature master chief figure and a burned copy of red vs blue.

GS and EB are also running a special, trade in your Wii toward the legenary edition and get an extra $10 in store credit.

I'm so conflicted on what to do. I really wanted the helmet and extras and figured they were worth the extra $40. Now I have to decide if they're worth an extra $70. Hmmm.

With tax, the Legendary Edition will set me back $137.14. It's not the money that bothers me, it's just the principle of the whole thing (Do I really want to be Microsoft's bitch...more so). What to do, what to do...

This worked out well for me. I wnet and cancelled my preorder and used the $25 I was required to put down to help pay for God of War 2, only $28.
