Yeah I am going to make a pretty safe bet that they will not sell out. I mean they are kind of expensive, but who knows people have the money and the motivation so it could very well happen.

Fuck penguins, man! The only reason they can camp out like this is because they are lazy and don't have jobs.

You're gonna be really suprised on the 17th. ;)

Oh they will. I expect the first few shipments to sell out in a flash.

I just had an enlightening conversation with an individual who may be of the same mentality as the CA PS3 campers. Such masterful use of profanity as he came up with so many words to call me stupid because I think reselling preorders is a bad idea... along with a lesson on the fair market on why it's good for him to attempt to get 10 preorders in and sell them for $3000 a pop. What a dick.

/apologies for threadjacking

You would think it is the jobless folk who can spend the time to camp out for a console a week and a half before its release are the same people who can't afford a PS3 in the first place. Ah welfare.

That line is now up to around 10. I posted about it in a thread awhile ago. They've been in line longer than 9 days. They started on Tuesday morning at LEAST. My gf drove by and spoke to the guys, they are very nice, they just want the system. One guy took his vacation days, one guy quit his job, etc.

Another thing, people yelling about them not being at a "midnight" location. There is NO WAY I would camp out in West Hollywood. That area has hoodlums, pimps, trannies, and a VERY unsafe area to wait in line. This Best Buy shopping center has all the amenities, and cops coming by to check on people. Rather have that than any other place if I was camping.

Now this is digitpress probably the best game collecting related site on the net so a lot of us including myself go to some pretty extreme lengths for gaming... but I feel I speak for a lot of people when I say....

Anyone camping out nearly 10 days in advance for a game SYSTEM that isnt even going to be rare in a few months needs a life. These people that already have setup camp for the 16th are losers... there is no way around it. It's one thing to camp out one night in advance (i personally wouldnt do it)

but over a week? whats the deal? How do these people even buy a ps3 they obviously don't have a job to get fired from.

At least they brought those giant marijuana plants to keep them entertained.

Wow... never thought anyone would camp out for a PS3, even less for days! As mentionned, for a new system that will be available for a while, I don't feel to absolutely have one at launch day is necessary. But that is just me :)

lol.

Damn, camping so long is crazy. And as DreamTR said, one quit his job just for this? Damn.. i really hope he was planing on quitting anyway hehe.

i think id be more prone to get a second job and work for the 10 days...the money youd make from working two jobs would likely cover the majority of increase in costs for an ebay purchase, and you wouldnt have to poo outside.

unless the whole 'pooing outside' thing is what youre aiming for...

Was thinking the same thing, but its not unlikely that you can make $1000 - $2000 profit selling it on Ebay (totaly depends on when the next batch of PS3s are comming). You cant make this amount of money with a normal job.

Are you on glue?

PS3 will sell out until March or April of next year, it will be a LONG time indeed until you can just waltz into any store and buy one.

Preorders are going for over $3,000 on eBay and some Wall Street analysts are estimating that eBay prices will get as high as $10k/unit near Christmas.

Japan will be even worse, as they're only getting 80,000 units at launch.

qbertandernie
11-09-2006, 08:33 AM
most are in the 1600-2200 range, but yeah, theyll sell out.

10k per unit by xmas? i think analysts are overestimating the number of people that plan to keep their systems. sure theres limited release, but the number of people with 10k to buy a ps3 is probably pretty low vs. the number of people that dont have $600 to spend on one and have a preorder in being fairly high. we will see i guess, but id expect prices to spike the first few days then taper off.

but then i could be completely wrong, as happens often enough, and the ps3 investors could make a killing.

I doubt $10k so much, where did you get that information WanganRunner? I'd say absolutely $3k at the most period, and even that's way too freaking much it's pure stupidity.

Don't assume that everyone buying a system on ebay plans on keeping it to play... I'm sure many people will be buying ebay systems on the idea that the price will continue to go up.

Self-fulfilling prophecy, really, the more people BELIEVE the price will go up, the more it actually WILL go up

Wow, I used to think waiting outside for a day was hardcore. I dont understand the idea of quitting your job in order to buy a game system though.

i suppose there will be some degree of 'the analysts say theyll go for 10k at xmas, so this $6500 i bid is a STEAL!!'

i hadnt thought of that.

How many people after seeing/hearing about this did the "Oh shit" and ran down to their stores to wait in line?

Hep038

I would think from a gaming community they would get a little more support. I mean its their time and money, if they choose to use it to get a ps3 to play more power to them. If they are doing it to sell on ebay, good for them if they get a guy to spend 3K on a 600$ unit. I think most of the "get a life" comments are becuse it is a PS3. Even if it is not going to sell out, him and his buddies want to be the first to get one. So what? I would not do it , but no way would I tell someone else how to spend their vacation, or not to quit their crappy job to get the newest gaming console. But hey that is just me.

Some of the military people I work with are going to stay overnight outside the PX to get units to resell. I guess they figure they have better odds since the base is restricted. Knowing my luck, if I actually managed to get one, I'd trip in the parking lot on the way out of the store and the box would fly out of my hands and under the wheels of a passing dump truck. I figure I might by a used one when people are selling them to get money to buy the new PS4.

I can also confirm that they are in Burbank. My friend was there on Teusday and called to tell me. I couldn't believe it. I had to go see it for myself. I sure as hell am not going to that Best Buy to wait, I'm going elsewhere ;)

Hmmm...if I had 600 dollars to spend I'd get one to resell and set aside some money for future bills...but I need 600 bucks first....oh wait, only one a few days until it's out. Oh well!

Well, today morning we received our 34 PS3's and there's already more than amount of people by the time I left at 2:00pm. TONS of people just started showing up since we opened today Wednesday morning so the store said "Fuck it" and made a queue line. There were all these teenagers driving up in their trucks grabbing sleeping bags and quoting "Campin time!". Hopefully the store breaks the news on how few we have 24 of the 600$ and 10 of the other, because I know for a fact there were more people than that when I left. It looks like a campgrounds out front.

People are camping out at a Best Buy near my home. News story on it and everything. And included in the vid package for the PS3 story? Yup, scenes of Xbox 360 games and Wii games. Also showed several scenes of the Wii-mote in action! LOL

People started camping out at my job lastnight in Hallandale and actually slept in the store, I'm shocked that managment actually let them do that. They asked them to move outside this afternoon and now they're just sitting out front by the door.

Funny thing is each Wal-Mart is supposed to get atleast 10 consoles, but our store went from having 6 to 4, so management more than likely grabbed some for theirselves. So now if you're one of the 6 that doesn't get one, you get a raincheck.

The line started at the Target I work at (in North Las Vegas) today at around 3 or 4. There was some debate when I left as to whether or not we should kick these people off the premeses, especially since our electronics manager is fairly convinced that the initial group is going to re-sell their PS3s on eBay (and perhaps attempt to score more than one per person, at that).

All the better to dishearten me as I attempt to score a Wii at launch during a 6AM shift.
