Man, I can't wait until Monday for this game to come out. Yoshi's Island 1 is definitely up there in my top games of all time, and this looks to be as good.

With this, Elite Beat Agents, and FF3, my wallet's going to take a pounding!

I'm looking foward to this on too, but I'm waiting for reviews before I buy.

It has a lot to live up to, the original was awesome, and there are already a lot of great platformers on the system. I'm sure it will be good, but it also has the potential to suck if it's not as great as other things on the system.

what? I didn't even know they were coming out with a new Yoshi's Island.

Damnit damnit damnit...

There are just too many good games out there. I don't have enough time to play all of these!

Between Final Fantasy V on GBA and Final Fantasy III and Yoshi's Island on DS, and the Wii, this is going to be one hell of a Christmas! :P

Please tell me it doesn't have that horrible noise when you lose baby Mario. I loved the first one - but I had to play it with the sound off.

That crying sound was soooo annoying, but i do consider it part of the experience. Because i hate the sound so much, it makes me want to play better and concentrate more so i dont have to hear it!

Wow, I forgot completely that it was coming out this monday. Thanks for the reminder.

I can't wait! I hope it doesn't suck. I'd hate for it to suck.

Bad news: it's by the same team that made the horrible, horrible Yoshi's Gravitation game.

Good news: pre-release play impressions have been very, very favourable. Maybe they've got THIS Yoshi game right :)

After what, 7-8 games, it looks like Artoon may have finally made a high quality game.

BTW, it still amazes me that their previous works have been mediocre or worse since they are headed by some very talented ex-Sega employees.

Ahem. King of Fighters EX2: Howling Blood was decent. :P

I would agree with you Kitsune Sniper, but that's not the case. KoF EX2: Howling Blood was developed by Sun-Tec, and published by Marvelous in Japan.

This game has been one of my most anticipated late 2006 releases. I'll be picking it up sometime this week.

I got my hands on a review copy of both this and Elite Beat Agents, and I am grateful for that....because that means I didn't waste my money on them.

In my opinion, neither of these games were fun. Having played just about every rhythm and groove game released in the US, Elite Beat Agents ranked towards the bottom as just plain bland.

Yoshi's Island was a chore. Complete this obvious task change babies, complete this obvious task, change back, complete this task, change back AGAIN....just...bleh. I couldn't even bring myself to complete the second level....just too damn repetative and tedious.

In all fairness, I didn't really get into the original all that much either.

Based upon your review of Elite Beat Agents, I'm buying Yoshi's Island first thing this week.

Don't listen to Sisko, it seems he is the tiny voice of dissent in an overwhelming shouting on the praise of EBA. I loved Ouendan and I really like EBA as well (though the J-pop cheesiness is really the difference here). My advice is really to try them out and see for yourself. Just about everyone I know who loved Ouendan, loves EBA.

I really did like the *style* of EBA, like the storylines and strike checkpoints etc etc. Just the gameplay was very lacking and boring. I put it up par with Donkey Konga and Unison (both sucked).

Matter of opinion then I guess... those peeps I know who are heavy into that sort of game lapped up Ouendan totally.

Just picked this up, and although I've only beaten two levels so far, I think it's safe to say that it will be a very good game. I'll decide if it's better than the original when I beat it. Minigames = :D

I got this for Christmas. Let's see....

I like the level design. For the most part. It gets really hard in world 5. And I'm on 5-7. "Superhard Acrobatics". God, who the hell designed this level? WTF? And the ones before it? WTF? Geeze! It was easy as pie for a long time. Then WHOOSH! The difficulty jumps.

The music sucks. To put it bluntly. Sucks. It sucks bluntly sucks. Yeah. It sucks. WTF? Who the hell did this music? Why does it suck? Who sucks so much they thought it was good? It SUCKS! They could have done better had they just ripped the original music directly from the original game and used that.

The graphics are not the same. It's sad. The original had some awesome art. It was like a kid drew it. Now it's too plain. It lost that cool look. The 3D rotating world map at the beginning looks AWESOME. It sets you up to be blown away. Then you see the actual graphics and it's like "Meh." Meh.

Overall, it's only half a game the original was. Music sucks. Graphics meh. Level design awesome. Difficulty "Mario Sunshine" level. YIDS = 1/2 YI.

Sucky sucky music. It's so.. boring. :(

I bought this and partners in time recently. Having trouble getting into this one; enjoying partners in time much more.

Yeah I really, really like this one, not as much as the original, but it's still very good.

the only thing that's putting me off so far is how stupidly hard it gets in world 5. i got stuck on 5-6 right before x-mas and haven't play it since (though I also got portrait of ruin for x-mas so that might have something to do with it :) )

My little bro got this game when it came out and I havent gotten the chance to try it yet lol. I LOVED the origional tho, one of my favorite SNES games and fondest memories so I really should give the DS one a go.

What an utterly infuriating game this is. I guess I can't quite chalk it up to my level of patience decreasing with age. I daresay the level design just isn't nearly up to the same standard of brilliance as the original Yoshi's Island. (I particularly miss the way that red coins could be distinguished from regular coins, even without the magnifying glass.) And I certainly agree the original's music is in an entirely different league than what they scraped together for this one. Verily, this is a pale imitation on the whole, missing the neat little touches that made the original Yoshi's Island such a treat.

At least there's no shortage of extra lives. I've reached World 4 so far and I've already got more than 330!

Yet I can hardly leave it unfinished. Curse my completionist tendencies...

Jorpho

...No, on second thought, I think I'm going to give up. It's been a while since I've refrained from trying to reach completion, but life is too short to waste agonizing over sadistically designed levels like these. Oy!

Maybe someday ten years from now when DS emulation has been perfected I'll use a kajillion save states and finish it 100%. Until then I shall be content having gotten most of the way there.

(At least they nerfed the final boss.)

Bumpity doo! I just bought this today (sidewalk sale at SuperClub Videotron at $10 brand new). For the price I figured I couldn't go wrong. :)

So far I like it, even though I'm only at the first castle of World 1, so it's still early to tell. I do like that it's not relying heavily on the stylus (my touch screen got quite the beating from Zelda: Phantom Hourglass and Trauma Center)...

This game is excellent. One of my favorites right next to Kirby Canvas Curse (which *does* heavily rely on touchscreen functions).

O rly? Did you ever finish it 100% ? (For that matter, did you ever finish Canvas Curse 100% ?)

THe box art looks legit, but when did they start calling this "Yoshi's Island 2" ?

Before they started calling it "Yoshi's Island DS".

BTW, I found YI DS to be inferior to YI for the snes.

beat it 100%, loved it!
one of the most challenging platformers if you're going to finish it completely.

game was super easy if you only wanted to finish it, completing it with everything brought a real challenge to the table.

Yoshi's Island DS is a pretty cool game. It was loads of fun to play. The only thing I didn't like about it was that they used another "Underworld" soundtrack. I mean, the one for the DS is pretty cool, but I liked the one for the SNES better and they should have kept the "Underworld" soundtrack from YI.

I finished about half of this and never did go back. The levels I played were on par with what was found in the SNES YI in my opinion, then I just got to a level that just turned me off completely and I haven't went back since. It was one of the Fortress levels that seemed overly complicated to me...
