I was "meh" until I saw TYPING OF THE DEAD in the honorable mentions.

Did these folks play any of the games on the list, or did they just lurk at video game forums for a couple weeks?

At least one or two of these games are 'Unofficial, private titles', like that Columbine Massacre RPG. No real company made it. It was like some kid with too much time and RPG Maker 95. Why the HELL is that up there?

Then again, Why am I taking any kind of gaming news from MSN?

Postal a bad game? Actually, I rather enjoyed mowing down the marching band...

That's why I haven't followed the link to the list. Without viewing it, I already knew the list would be utter rubbish.

Thread moved to classic gaming, where it belongs more than Off-Topic.

"Meh" indeed. I enjoyed Daikatana a little bit, and Shaq Fu in a "so bad, it's good" way.

But what in the hell are Warrior Within and Police Quest: SWAT doing on there?! I liked both of those a lot.

Postal is a guilty pleasure too. :P

Ah, gotta love this type of garbage "journalism". Typing of The Dead doesn't deserve to be anywhere near that list.

I was playing that game a few days ago actually....and I thought it was refreshing and FUN!

What? Custer's Revenge!? I loved Custer's Revenge!

...no, wait, I didn't.

How surprising to see that ET made the list.

It's simply impossible to believe that anyone who actually played ET would list it as the worst game of all time. It's not fantastic, but it's certainly playable. I played it more often than I played Yars Revenge, and I still feel that it's the better game of the two.

Falling into the pits is the rationale now given?

1. The pits are avoidable, just as the pits are on Super Mario Bros.

2. The parts of the phone are hidden in the pits, so you have to go into them anyway.

3. I had sufficient skills, at age 8, to manage to levitate out of a pit and not fall back in. If you don't even possess the meager amount of skill necessary to pull off such a magical trick, are you really in any position to make any kind of judgement on gameplay?

Great list

Take a few games that have had a bad rep forever (Pacman & ET). Mix in a few politically incorrect (but not really BAD) games (Custer's Revenge, Columbine Macassre and Postal) and you have a worst of list that probably didn't take a moments thought to put together. And it looks it.

I remember somone making a worst games list on these boards and people saying "why is XXX game on this list I love that game!" So even DP is not invulnerable to stuff like this. The game I remember people had a problem with being on the list was deadly towers. I my mind I did think it was one of the worst games of all times, but a couple of people said they actually liked it. SO I guess that is why I really have no problem with this guys list. :/

of knowledge, where is ALF for SMS, is that better then POP:WW?

Pff moron.

Warrior Within had it's problems, sometimes really bug, but it was still a very enjoyable game. I could care lessa about majority of those other games and ET being #1 just seems forced.

The article says that Warrior Within threw everything that Sands of Time did right out the window. WTF? It had the same great balance of combat, stealth and platforming as the previous one did. It's obvious the only reason it's on the list is because Ubisoft went ahead and changed the image of the series. Boo-fucking-hoo, they're a business, why bother making a game that won't sell? This author deserves to be shot.

Smurf - Rescue in Gargamel's Castle

God I HATED THAT GAME!!!

The colision detection was so bad, I couldn't ever make it over the first damn fence. I also think It's what kept me from wanting a ColecoVision - everytime I played it in a store, they'd always have Smurf's playing. Never Donkey Kong or Venture...

I'll be hte first to say that Warrior Within wasn't a good game compared to the other two. It is easily the worst of the series. However it was still a good game, I understand that there are always going to be aspects of lists people don't agree with, but this one and the top 100 moments seem especially bad.

This list is so wrong, Typing Of The Dead was a sweet game, I guess they decided it was bad because of the hoakieness and violence mixed?

Then again, Why am I taking any kind of gaming news from MSN?

As suggested in the byline, this article was first published verbatim in PC World (or PC World online, at least).

And indeed, no one who has actually played Typing of the Dead could possibly dismiss the sheer genius of it.

The list of Top 10 Worst Games are posted in Outerspace Forum, a Brazilian website games where i am a member.

The people are contested the forum because the presence of Prince of Persia the Warrior Within ( PS2, Gamecube and XBox ) and the Driv3r ( Multipltaform ) and Superman 64 ( Nintendo 64 ) abstences.

An Outerspaceīs forum user says the Superman 64īs abstence in the ranking of worst games is not wrote by serious person in games.

Prince of Persia Warrior Within as the 10 worse games of all time? O_O O_O Looks more like this guy did a list of the 10 recent games he didnt like.

Yeah some people feel the need to do this because they have a vendetta for a certain game of some sort. I also liked typing of the dead I thought the tame was brilliant.

You can generally not expect a top list of something to go your way. Really these are personal grudges these writters have. I know E.T. doesn't deserve to be the worst but should be on a list of bad, not top 10 worst EVER as this person has done. I can whip out a ton of games from nearly any system that suck bigger than E.T., even from the 2600 itself. Unfortunately it does seem as though they lurked some forums for a week, maybe not even that long, then decided to see what people hated. I wouldn't doubt they just went over to IGM for reviews and GameFAQ to see what others responses were.

Some of my least favorite games I own:
Razor Scooter (PS1) - Lame turn-base multiplayer
Adventure of Mighty Max (GEN) - Horrible gameplay
Coaster Works (DC) - All around horrible
Commander Keen (GBC) - Controls & screen
Psychic Force (PS) - Game looks so grainy and struggles
Shadow Madness (PS) - Ugly and sloppy
StarCraft 64 (N64) - Horrible slowdown

Certainly they aren't my favorite and rarely do I even want to look at them but I wouldn't say they are the worst like that person goes on.

Y'know, I was actually quite fond of that game, and I can't see what the reviewer had against it. The graphics were clear, the music was great (I know I'm not the only one who was freaked out by the underground/castle theme as a kid), and the play control was decent once you got used to it. (Perhaps the reviewer was trying to play it on an emulator or something?)

And to single out the smurfette-dress thing (something which I never found in many years of playing it in my youth, and clearly a sprite glitch rather than intentional raciness) is baffling indeed.

Trying to deal with the hawk (a singularly lame attempt to increase the game's difficulty) got a bit tedious, though.

Glad to see Howard Scott Warsaw's title is still unchallenged, he's still proud of it. But Custer's Revenge? That game can entertain the hell out of a room full of drunks.

The biggest problem with the list is that most of the games mentioned are pretty cliched answers. Like ET and Atari Pac-Man. That's stuff that you expect to find on just about any cut-and-dry "worst games ever" list that doesn't really do a whole lot of research.

The one game that really stuck out like a sore thumb was Warrior Within. I was like, "What the Hell?"

I agreed with all of you, this list if just cliche and was probably put together by people who probably were only interested to bring more traffic to the site. I personnaly always found 'what is the worse/best' video game lists a bit weird anyway. How can you compare games separated by nearly 30 years of technical advances ?...

Most of the games that would deserve to make such a list are games that a lot of people have never heard of. A high profile game that is a little below average, or mediocre, is bound to make it on these type of lists. The worst game I ever played was Terminator 2: Judgment Day on the Sega Game Gear. Easily the worst but only 2-3 people on any given forum might have ever spent 10-20 minutes with it, so obviously it will never get enough traction to end up on a "Worst Games Of All-Time" list.

That same logic applies to a lot of run-of-the-mill bad games which most people simply never played because they were either quietly released, didn't sell a great deal of copies or didn't get reviewed in most of the magazines.

It REALLY looks like somebody - or maybe a couple somebodies - said "hey, I have a great idea - let's go LURK SOME MESSAGE BOARDS to find a few games people hate, and then we'll pretend it's our own research!"

"Surely a masterful plan! Once again, you've saved a ton on labor and overtime. That's why we pay you the big bucks!"

"Thanks, and don't call me Shirley."

What? No Xenosaga Episode 1 (The INFERIOR Episode 1) or Sonic the Hedgehog 360? What kind of worst games list is this?

It also means that MSN can now repost the same list 6-7 months from now when everybody has presumably "forgotten" about it. This foolproof plan will easily produce another "exclusive" worst games list.

1. Remove one or two titles from the current list you have up on MSN, preferably titles from the more recent generations. Make sure you leave "old shit" like 2600 Pac Man or E.T. on there because surely nobody will ever make games that bad again.

2. Look at some recent issues of EGM and find one or two games that received all 2's or 3's. Use these to replace the titles that were removed from the original list.

3. Rewrite the introduction to the article and give a new synopsis for each game. Using a different writer than the first time is acceptable but not necessary. New photos of each game not required.

4. Viola. You now have a new "worst games" list, with all the physical effort of a Charlie Hough knuckleball, that will now be linked on video gaming forums and search engine news pages across the internet.

To reiterate from my earlier post: This is an article from PC World Online! It did not originate with MSN! (http://www.pcworld.com/article/id,127579-page,1-c,games/article.html) (Why a journalist from PC World is writing about console games is another mystery.)

What? No Xenosaga Episode 1 (The INFERIOR Episode 1) or Sonic the Hedgehog 360? What kind of worst games list is this?

Sonic 360, at least, was not out at the time.

Have I mentioned Wikipedia's take on this? Unfortunately, its current revision it seems to be much shorter than older versions were.

While I agree with his points on Warrior Within (seriously, why did they decide to make such a wonderful game as Sands of Time all nu-metal?), it doesn't belong anywhere near the worst games of all-time. Basically these lists don't take all things into consideration or else you wouldn't see anything even remotely playable on them. I know "Bible Adventures" gets a nod on these lists from time to time (usually the ones that go for more than 10 games), but that game's actually not all that bad and was in fact better than several of the other NES games I owned as a kid.

I blame EGM and Seanbaby for the cliche nature of certain titles and their probability to appear on "worst of" lists every time any lazy publication/site is in need of something quick and compiles one. Seriously, complaining about ET, Custer's Revenge and Shaq-Fu is about as fresh as telling Michael Jackson jokes.

Smurf Rescue for the CV?

Isn't it interesting how rarely old consoles (pre-NES) ever make the 10 Best Of...lists, but on the worst lists always do? Sure enough, 2600 Pac-Man.

But this was about a quarter of a CENTURY ago, folks! Are they seriously suggesting that a game made when I was just turning old enough to drive a car, when Blade Runner was amazing us and we hadn't seen all three of the original Star Wars trilogy, was, unbeknowest to us, destined to be still one of the all-time worst when we hit middle-age?

Maybe it's just traditional now to include them.
