Not through hardware, no!
It can't play US PS1/PS2 games.
It can play US Blu-ray movies and US Blu-ray games

Congratulations, I should be on the same boat this Friday morning. I could have had one shipped to me tomorrow (JP version) but I would have had to pay additional $350 plus i don't have enough Japanese PS2 games to justify it :(.... Give us a review when you are done with it.

Well, I've learned an interesting lesson.
Don't lie to your wife about how much you are spending to get something from Japan...
Everything went fine until she saw the invoice lol... I got a little too excited and forgot to hide it.
She's not TOO furious... hiding the cutlery was a smart idea tho ;) She is "asking" me to sell it tho... I can apparently get another one later haha.

I think that when it comes time for me to buy one for keeps I'm going to buy an import unit.
I sold my Magic-3 PS2 awhile back, so now I have no way to play Japanese PS1 & PS2 games.
If the PS3 will play all-region PS3 games as well as region-1 & 2 Blue-Ray movies....I see no reason not to get an import unit.
It would also no longer require me to look around for a "TEST" PS2, an expensive piece of kit I'd have otherwise likely skipped.
Did you get any PS3 games with the system? I only see the two PS2 titles.
Anyway, nice of them to send you free games. I'd have liked to recieved GT4 Prologue, as I still lack a copy. P-A is a good company.

Well, he posted it on ebay.
I saw it this morning while I was doing my normal daily search through the 2-300 highest priced items for all of eBay videogames.
$2,995.
It might sell at that price, honestly, just because it's an actual unit rather than a pre-sale.
I guess the wife won LOL

Maybe I can afford a TV to play it on.
Right now I'm the ONLY one on Ebay who can get a buyer a system tomorrow... 3/4 of the other listings in the US that say "in hand" are just preorders, 1 that says it's in California is actually in Japan, and two others that actually have systems like me have a 3 and 7 day auction, respectively, with no quasi-Buy It Now option like I have.
Just dropped it to $2,750... I did have 4 people send me questions about how to purchase it, but none went through at the higher price. Here's hoping!
I've got 40+ watchers, 4,000 hits, and over a dozen messages about it hehe

That would be my 360. My mistake was that I shipped overnight to someone to an unconfirmed address. I have done that before but the previous guy was honest. The paypal rules say these 2 things are a big no no. I'm fairly naive with these things and I'll just have to eat it. It was my own stupid fault.
Also, the more I checked into paypal the more I do not want to use them again. They have all kinds of exceptions to the seller rules. The way it reads, it seems that a buyer can chargeback something months after the transaction. I'm going all cashier's checks on ebay from now on especially on big items. This will no doubt limit my success but I'm not going to eat another $900 in the future.

congrats on getting it early. hope you get what you're asking, I know I'd sell it in a heartbeat for $2000+.
On a side note I like the guy telling him via ebay question form that he can't sell it because Sony and ebay won't allow it, despite the fact that it says about 30 times in the auction description that ebay was contacted and gave permission to sell it.

Did you leave the $150 in your Paypal account, or did you transfer it out? I thought that once you transfer the money out of your account they can't access it anymore.

Nope. In my case with the 360, I had emails, paypal receipts for the shipping labels, UPS tracking number, receipt from the local UPS drop off spot and a digital signature from the receiver that I have a hard copy of. I also had transferred the money to my bank account for 3 or 4 days and, WAAM, reversal email came through and I lost my money!! They'll just charge your credit card or bank account right back for the amount due after 30 days. Paypal bites.

that doesn't give me a whole lot of hope. So you just lose out on $150 and you can't do a thing about it?
I always thought that if you had proof you shipped an item, there was very little that a buyer could do to you.
That's pretty goddamned desipcable.
Luckily eBay can't force me to use Paypal once the pre-sale period is over. I'm vulnerable for the Wii presale I just sold, but once I start selling in-hand PS3's, I'm not going to accept Paypal.
Does it make it safer if you only accept normal Paypal transfers, i.e. no credit cards through Paypal?
I'm going to set up a seperate checking acct for Paypal so that they can't get at any meaningful amount of funds.

Hell, I'll even take a personal check so long as I'm allowed to give it time to clear. I'm not selling any units at launch anyway because the market will be flooded, so I'll have the ability to wait a bit.

Out of over 200 paypal transactions I been beat on about 7 of them. Never once have I received anything back. there is too much bullcrap involved. From the vanilla emails to the fineprint.
I still have 2 cases unresolved paypal is vigorously working to get back my money:( It has been over 1 year no updates.
All the while due to company policy cant tell what action they are taking if any which they are not.
Here is what I don't understand most companies are forced to give the participants full disclosure (addresses phone#.etc) when confronted with fraud. I don't know how paypal has been able to get away with this for so long.

The best strategy with PayPal, is the minute you get money, transfer it to your bank account. Make sure you use a spare bank account with PayPal as well. Then take that money out of that bank account.
If you ever get an e-mail about a buyer filing a complaint, your only option is to bite the amount of money they're filing a complaint for, or delete your bank account off your PayPal account. If they rule in favor of the buyer, your PayPal account will go into the negatives because they won't be able to withdraw money from your bank account. This is the point in which you abandon that PayPal account and create another one.
Never put a credit card on a PayPal account, either. Put a debit card connected to that spare bank account. If you know PayPal's about to screw you you can close that bank account.

I honestly thought someone would bite, oh well! I can't really complain. Although I probably would have been better off simply starting the bidding low and ending the bidding at 4pm CST today at whatever the auction was at. I'm guessing that would've been higher than whatever I can get for it tomorrow.
I've seen preorders with just one movie go for $2,500, so I think this will get picked up.

Assuming he works full-time and that he didn't pay for the PS3 with the grocery or rent money, then it is reasonable that he should be able to buy a PS3 without being forced to lie about it, apologize for the purchase or end up selling it a day later.

Ebay cancelled my listing...
No explanation other than I violated the policies (I didn't) for auctioning presells.
*is trying to refrain from screaming and swearing*
So I relisted it with a tiny change... I noticed that requirements for selling a PS3 after release include having a picture with your Ebay ID in it, so I added that.
If that's the real excuse, they are talking out of both sides of their mouth- I was specifically required to comply with presell requirements, I shouldn't have been subject to both.
Anyway, it hasn't passed indexing yet, but here's a direct link:

*rolls eyes* Maybe someday you'll get the opportunity to legally get married and then you'll understand the concept of the values of marriage such as honesty and frugality in regards to community property. Until then try to refrain from making judgments about married women when you'll never experience a relationship with a woman in your life. ;P

Well, duh. I've been telling you that this will happen. No self-respecting woman is going to want anything to do with any boy who spends that kind of outrageous money on a toy.
Yeah, being the first kid on your block with a PS3 has its thrills...for a little while. But you'll soon have to choose between playing with the woman (wink, wink), and sitting on the couch alone with your joystick. Is a PS3 better than sex? Hell fucking no.
But, hey, I hope that PS3 sells for a ton of money on Ebay. Let some other sucker part with his money. But you better spend a good chunk of that money of your wife! Trust me on this - take some of the profits and take a trip.

It was listed at around $2,500-3,000 at one point and it wasn't a US system. Most people who saw the auction were content to take their chances camping out or trying different auctions, since he had it online a day or two before launch if I remember right. The sensible thing to do would have been to list it for between $1,500-1,800. I mean most people in the States who are going to pay through the nose for a PS3 damn well want the US version. I know I would.

Damn only $810, nearly $200 less than what he payed :( Its easy to say this now of course, but to get big money for the PS3 you had to sell it early and not be greedy (like having a $3000 BIN) because for every day that go there are less chance to find someone whos willing to pay big bucks since they probly bought it from someone else already.
