Best news of the week? Sure.
Best news of the year? Don't know, but it makes me happy.
They say death comes in 3's. Who will be next?

damn... I liked this magazine personally, even though as of lately it was a HUGGGGGGGGGGE ass hype train for the ps3. But this magazine did seem chock full of text and details about stuff.
I liked the demo discs too

So it's basically because of the ever-increasing popularity of broadband that Ziff Davis is pulling the plug on the magazine? Alrighty. My first thought would be low subscription numbers.
I bought it from time to time, but never truly trusted their reviews. The demo's were sometimes awesome though.

Funny I just received my opm today. Recently I noticed they were rehasing alot of already released demos it was getting real stale. People were probably abandoning ship. I think the real problem was the blu ray format. It is probably too expensive to include and too expensive to covert and Xbox is downloading demos. I am glad I didn't renew. Man I was this close.
I also noticed it was the 111 issue. I was thinking man it has been a run some great demos and memories the cheats were cool to. I like their mag. A little expensive but I like them. I will miss them :(

Looks like Ziff Davis can see a sinking ship from a mile away. Smart move on their part.
Even the Sega staff gave the Saturn a chance and ran the magazine up until 1997.
The bad news for Sony just never ends. LOL
Good thing I didn't renew. You know, it's perfect. I have a free subscription to OPM until January 2007.

Actually i'm sad to see OPM go. At least they had some semblence of integrity and intellect, unlike PSM.

Are you talking about how they had two of the same star wars demos back to back?
I personally thought that was weird myself.

PSM really should die, though. At least OPM tries to be somewhat non-biased. They interview the competition, they were bashing the PS3, had ads for games on other systems, etc.
That said, they could've done more. They never did state when a game was available on other systems in their multiplatform section, and they'd rave about a game that was broken on the PS2 but great on the Xbox or GameCube.

I'm honestly shocked. I thought OPM was a really good mag. I very much enjoyed the columns that various writers chimed in with each issue.
OPM gets the axe and yet crap like EGM is still being published? I mean, there was a time when I loved EGM but that mag has been on "suck" mode for years.

Wow and I thought it was all backed by sony so I didnt imagine it leaving unless sony got out of the gaming picture oh well.

I've had a subscription for years solely for the demos. I read the magazine too and felt is was substandard and have been calling the end of OPM for a while on my website. I'm surprised OXM has gone on this long.
What made you suspect I wasn't a reader? If you were planning to mount a flame war or something go shit on someone else's thread.
If you weren't I apologize in advance...you know what they say about assuming...

No no, im not that lame that i want to start a flamewar. I just wondered, if you read the magazine frequently which means you had contunied to buy it, why would you be happy that it gone? If you didnt read it, then i wondered why you would be happy that its gone, since it wouldnt make any difference if OPM was avalible or not if you didnt read it, if you know what i mean.

Great. That's another sub that ZD will roll the remaining issues onto my EGM subscription.
Can't really say I'm that surprised about it, though. Seems like only the huge mags like EGM and GI are getting the exclusives, and most (if not all) editorial content by ZD mags is on their web site anyway.

Since I don't want ZD to roll the remaining issues onto my EGM subscription, I have sent them email requesting refund of my OPM subscription balance.

I feel bad for the editorial staff and their families. What a crappy time of year to get laid off. :( Plus they just went through a huge redesign. The timing seems odd to me.

Damn, I picked this as my free subscription for getting a MVP Game Crazy card and I haven't even gotten one issue yet.
Heh- I bailed on all (3-4) of my gaming mag subs. as soon as they started the next-gen hype. I've no interest in the upcoming round of games/systems. (Hell, I still have sealed PS2 games to open & play, & a huge backlog of PS1 games I want to get to.)
That said, OPM was one of the better mags IMO, I didnt even check out the demo discs that often. I'm still interested in collecting issues & have around 7-8 more to go. (Does this mean value will increase? Plus I can now aim for a complete run...)

I doubt the OPM editors will get laid off, they'll be given other jobs at ZD.

lol I got this magazine for an entire year for free thanks to some offer someone had here at DP. I love the demo disk, but the journalism is terrible. Especially the issue where they complained that SF Anniversary Collection had terrible load time, but they praised SF Alpha Anthology LOL
