Just wondering if any of you have purposely screwed over anyone when selling them something?

For example:
Buyer: "So's that Sega Rally 2 for Dreamcast?"
Seller: "Yes. It's quite rare. I suggest you buy it."
Buyer: "But the case is broken and the disc is really scratched..."
Seller: "Doesn't matter. Dreamcast games don't get affected by scratches."
Buyer: "Oh, okay. So you say it's rare?"
Seller: "Yeah. Sega Rally 2 is really hard to come across."
Buyer: "And you'll give it to me for $25 (Aust.)?"
Seller: "Sure!"
Buyer: "Would you be willing to take $20?"
Seller: "Well, as I said it's quite rare..."
Buyer: "Okay, okay I'll take it for $25."
Seller: "Nice doing business with you!"

Buyer now hands over $25AUS for a common, scratched up Dreamcast game with a broken case.

Does anyone consider this wrong? Not that I've done this or anything!

What's your thoughts?

Yes, it's wrong.

I recently did a trade with someone on AtariAge who had just gotten his first Odyssey 2 and had no games for it, not even the pack-in. I had a few exceedingly common titles sitting around, boxes and all, and offered those to him, and told him I'd only ask for commons in exchange.

I try to be fair and honest when dealing with others, even though I've been burned in the past. But c'mon, I'm not going to hold out for Quadrun and offer Speedway / Spinout / Cryptologic and Computer Golf in exchange. Ultimately, in this community, word gets round, and the shady get exposed and marked for life. (Check out the current hot threads in the Battlezone for more details.)

In short, I know what I've got, I know what it's worth, and I generally know what the other party's wares are worth. I'm not going to hose anyone. Not even when I'm selling outright instead of trading. So yeah, the practice you mentioned as an example, I'd consider that wrong.

In the above scenario, yes, the seller needs to be shot. BUT, if the buyer had come up and OFFERED $25 for the beat up common, then the seller should take it and like it :)
