I recently picked up a Mario's Bombs Away Game & Watch system at a flea market, and was suprised at the condition it was in. The only problem was a large piece of tape residue on the light converter which I was able to remove. Anyways, I got the right batteries at Radioshack, and went home to play it. It worked good, but then all of the sprites on the LCD-screen game started to power up, and different game tunes that usually only play when you either die or get a game over started to play over and over. I let it sit for awhile and put a magazine over it so it wouldn't draw any light (It has to have light to power up the screen), so after 15 minutes of the annoying tone, I took out the batteries and the system powered down.

Every time I try and play it, this happens. I really want this game system to work (It is nearly 25 years old..) so I can keep it for awhile and enjoy it, but I don't know what the problem is. Anybody know what is going on?

it's possible someone spilled something in i which is shorting everything out, you could try opening it up with a screwdriver and cleaning everything.. otherwise it could be a loose wire going bad places or something, anyway most solutions will involve opening it, so give it a go.

Thanks for the info. I figured I would have to open it to solve the problem. If it is a loose wire, I may have to get one of my friends to help me with it.

did you get anywhere with this? it'd be a shame to see such a unit go to waste.
