View Full Version : Nintendo Wii
So, whats everyone think of this thing? I was lucky enough to get one on launch day, and I am very impressed. Wii sports is fun. I donwloaded a bunch of VC games already. I am thouroghly impressed with the machine, and very satisfied with the outcome of it.
I didn't see any threads on the Wii itself, but I thought I would start one being that the board was down when it came out.

I have a few questions regarding the VC & classic controller.
1. How are the classic selections? Whats available and how much $$?
2. Have they added multiplayer to any classics? I'm holding my breath for a multiplayer Mario Kart 64.
3. Are you happy with the feel of the classic controller? How do the buttons and d-pad feel? Do you think it'll handle N64 very well?

The classic controller may as well be the dual analog SNES controller. It is very nice in feel but the analogs may be just a little too close together. Also I am trying to figure what the heck will attach to the back of this controller.
I have only dl'ed Bomberman '93 and Sim City. Both play true to their original as far as I can see. Other games available right now vary from Mario Bros., Pinball, Solomons Key, Zelda, Wario Woods, F-Zero, Super Star Soldier, Bonk, Altered Beast, Sonic, Ecco, and the only game for N64 now is Mario 64. Price is 1000pts for N64, 800 for Genesis and SNES, 600 for TG16 and 500 for NES.
No online multiplayer -yet I hope this is in future virtual console games.
Anyways, I am VERY happy with the Wii and have had ultimate enjoyment with it. Friends come over and get a blast with Wii Sports. Its the best game to play with friends since Contra! Zelda is tops and Trauma Center is great!

TG-16 games didn't appear until a few days after launch. The first games were Bonk's Adventure and Bomberman '93, last week Super Star Soldier was added as well as Ecco and another Genesis game. New games are supposed to be added every Monday.

There were a few here and there when the board came back up a few days ago. Unfortunately they've since been erased :beaten:
I'm super happy with the Wii. End of story.
F zero and Bonks adventure were my first. I cant get my hands on a classic controller though, no one seems to have any.
Hopefully I can get one for christmass. The only thing thats kinda strange is that I have had the thing since launch, and the wiimote batteries have already died out. I dont like that at all, the wavebird controller would last for hours and hours on two AA batteries. I have never had to change them out now that I think about it.

The Wii is....AMAZING! I don't even have a game yet. Just Wii Sports.
Once you figure out how to play the games, it feels really nice to be able to actually do the action.
Unlike most baseball games you don't just press a button and hope you hit a home run, it totally depends on how you swing.
For Tennis you have to time your swings and the ball goes in a direction depending on where the controller is relative to the ball, just like real tennis.
They could have spent more time on the golf game though. There is some lag when swinging the club. It's not 1:1 like it should be.

I just thought about something. How does this system connect online?
Does it have to be Wifi? Or can I just plug a ethernet cable in? Please god let it be ethernet because I could never get my damn DS to work with that Wifi adaptor.

I take it that's a yes to my question?
Fuck :(
Once you get the Wii set up in your home and see how easy it is to surf thorugh everything, you begin to understand the vision that Nintendo had for this console from the beginning. I cant wait for the internet channel to be available. i wont even have to log onto my computer if I just wanna check out web sites and stuff.
its truly an amazing device, and the design is simple and attractive. I cant wait to rip open Twilight Princess and give it a whirl as well, but Im gonna wait until I finish Final Fantasy XII.
The suspense it killing me.

You can use ethernet with Wii, but you must buy a USB adapter. It cost about $20 i think.

Thanks for the links, but maybe i'll tinker around with my wifi adaptor for a bit... stupid routers :-/
Oh, another question. Can you use regular SD Memory Cards with the Wii? I have a 512 one for my digital camera, just wanted to make sure before I pop it in.
Thanks :)

Yeah you should be able to.
Also if you don't want to buy a Wi-Fi router you can pick up the Nintendo Wi-Fi adapter that they released for the DS... that works with the Wii as well.

Yeah that's what I have, but I think it's my router that gives me problem... what with the forwarding of ports and all. It's a linksys, but some odd model that I can't find alot of info on.

I got my wii launch day with no problem, went to best buy at 7:30 am, 1 and a half hour before they opened and scored one with zelda and rampage. :) Im lvoeing it

The negative thing with the DS WiFi adapter is that you have to have your PC running to be able to use it. A wireless router aint that expencive, but if i get the Wii i will get the ethernet adapter myself. Im not really a fan of wireless hehe.

Love the Wii, Wii Sports, Zelda, and Red Steel are all excellent.
For some reason the Wii shop channel on mine never works!

Got my Wii on launch day. Absolutely loved it! Hopefully, the developers use the full potential of the Wii remote. But, the day after the launch, the Wii acted really weird. 50% of the time I would go into a channel, the Wii would freeze up. Sent it back to Nintendo last week. Now, just waiting for it to get back to me.

Bought the Wii on day one and I too love it. Im lovin Wii sports, I tried Trauma center and that it was pretty good. I bought Zelda last week and, overall, I like it a lot except a few parts are annoying (and part of it has to do with the controller scheme). Havent seen anything interesting on the V yet, but everything seems very nicely set up and organized. Well done Nintendo!

I have a strange problem, there are scuff/smears/ on both sides of my wii that are black and wont come off, Where I initially held the wii on its sides to set it up. They are like fingerprints but BLACK and they WONT COME OFF! I even used cleaning sprays, what the hell? I had NOTHING like this on my hands at all.

I'm surprised to see how much positive feedback Red Steel is getting on this forum. This is the third good comment about it in this thread alone. It was one of the two launch titles I bought (that and Zelda) and I can't fucking stand it. The story is terrible, the voice acting is abysmal, the graphics are funny (and not in a good way) and the control is at once too twitchy and also too slow. I've been trying to figure out a way to take this open game back to the store; something I've never done with a video game before.
Seriously, what are all of you finding to like about it?

The Wii itself is pretty cool. I think I've had more fun with Sports than with Zelda.
The virtual console though, for a collector, is pointless. The only thing that would make me even consider paying for something is if the game had online play or something. In fact, I would like to make a personal goal to myself to buy the original versions of all the Virtual Console games. I already have most of them anyway.

Opera browswer won't be coming until later next year. The weather channel is coming out in like 2-3 weeks, and the news channel is coming in late Jan. 07.
I got exact dates now for the news and forcast channels, the internet is still like late next year.
Dec. 20 for the Forcast channel
Jan. 27 for the News channel

Does anyone know when the major retailers will be restocking? I know Walmart had a big shipment this morning, but I missed that one by one guy in line. I'm trying to find one for my brother before Christmas.

I got mine today (Wednesday) at Wal-Mart. They had 9 and I was number 5. The sports game is OK, I want to try the Zelda game.
My over all opinion is that it's a great console, and one of the big points to me is the small size.

I waited in line for about 5 hours at the local Fred Myer to get a Wii at the midnight launch. I'm really surprised that the line wasn't longer...the one at Wal-Mart was three times as long and people started lining up there hours before the Fred Myer line started. I guess it's because Wal-Mart is well known for being open 24 hours a day and launching things at midnight. Fred Myer usually closes at 11:00pm, but they decided to re-open from 12:00 to 1:00 just for the Wii launch...and lots of people didn't even know about it.
Anyway, I bought Zelda and a classic controller with the Wii. I have been playing Zelda like crazy for the last two weeks. I've already beaten the game once, and now I'm playing through for the second time and trying to get everything. I'm just afraid that after I'm all done with Zelda...there won't be anything on the Wii that really interests me until Smash Bros. Brawl comes out, which I believe is around Christmas 2007 or something like that.

I shredded it in my review as well. I have no idea what people are seeing in this game. Even if the controls worked, the game is a budget FPS at best. It's illlogical (the car shop sword fights are too much), bland, doesn't have an original idea in it, and the only enjoyment I got from it were the destructible environments.
If you think the controls are fine, try Call of Duty 3. The sensitivity options are SO much better making a more fluid game overall. You'll never go back to Red Steel.
And since I'm a plug whore, DP's Wii review section is up and running:
