Its been 2 weeks now. So, who actually bought one and kept it? Play any games on it? Thoughts?
I had settled for a 20GB model as I was told I might have to wait for quite some time as I was #13 on the list at Gamestop. Only game I picked up was Genji and I can say it is a pretty good game but right now it seems just as good graphically as the 360. Game play is pretty much standard 3d hack and slash. The camera sucks at times though. I am however having a fair amount of enjoyment with it.
Of note this thing is HUGE. Its one thing carrying a heavy box home but when I pulled the beast out I almost died laughing as I didn't expect it to be so large. The PS3 dwarfs the Xbox! Only thing I could think that was bigger was the Laseractive. PS3 has to be one of the biggest and heaviest consoles ever.

I bought 2, both 60 gig ones, I was going to keep one for myself but my friend begged me, so I just gave it to him. I want to get another one soon ... but right now I have exams coming so maybe after that... I really like the Controller... and how queit and sleek the system looks... I wish it was available in white or Silver color... o yea and other than Resistence in my opinion all the launch titles suck...

You're probably the greatest friend ever. You gave him a 60GB model? Do you have anymore room for best friends?

Well I lucked up and walked in and the eb store had them. I picked up the sixty gig one. It is real weird I have yet to open it. I guess I am still digesting the price also I feel so tempted to try and sell but I must open it and play and keep it. In my travels I found that Sony is actually shipping them out but the stores are playing cloak and dagger. The stores don't put the ps3 out on the floor and they make you ask for it. So if anyone wants one stop buy the the stores (best buy) over calling and chances are you will luck up.

I got a 60GB one on launch day and I actually kept it :) I have to say I like it so far. Im not completely overwhelmed by it, but itll grow on me as time goes on. As for the launch games, only RR 7 and resistance caught my eye and I actually did like both of them. It looks like itll be awhile, though, before anything worthwhile comes out. ON the Playstation Store, however, they need to improve a few things. First off, they need to add a LOT more! Demos, trailers, you name it! Secondly, why when I download something I have to stare at the screen? I cant go anywhere else until the download is complete. Lame. Fix it Sony!

I tried it in the store a bit but I'm waiting until they are easily available and all the bugs have been worked out of it. After the Xbox 360 nightmare that pretty much EVERYBODY experienced (3 rings), it'll be a while before i buy launch systems again. I did go to a couple stores and I've seen a frozen PS3 at a Wal-Mart, and a frozen PS3 in Gamestop. I don't want to have a $600 system freeze on me. But I am definately gonna get a 60 gig model when they are readily available, I'm looking foward to see what kinds of concepts they will have with the PSP connectivity.

I bought a 60 gig on launch day, I was one of the lucky few that pre-ordered from GameStop on that one day that they first started taking preorders. I was the 4th guy to preorder at my GameStop, so I was able to get one. To be completely honest, I was hoping to sell the thing, and I actually had it on Ebay for 10 days on a long "Buy it Now" thing. Ultimately, I couldn't get the $$$ that I was looking for, so the 10 day listing expired, and then I just said F it, and opened it up and started enjoying it.
Here is my current take on the PS3:
Well, my general take on the PS3 is that it's not really worth the cashola right now at the moment, especially if you happen to also own the Xbox 360. The sad truth of the matter, is that there really is only three big reasons to own a PS3 before March 2007.
Reason 1: The Motorstorm demo - Sure, it's just a demo, and it will get old after you play it over and over and over, but there is no denying the fact that the Motorstorm demo is the most impressive thing currently on the Playstation 3 right now.
Reason 2: Resistance: Fall of Man - Personally, Resistance is dramatically overrated, and had it been on the Xbox 360, it would be just another Xbox 360 game. Think about it, if Resistance was on the 360, it would be just another game out there, along with Call of Duty 3, Rainbow Six, Gears of War, Viva Pinata, etc, etc. Only reason Resistance is getting all the hype it's getting, is because compared to the rest of the PS3 launch lineup, Resistance is like a Game of the Year canidate. Sure, it's a good game, but nothing revolutionary at all. Could easily have been done on the 360. I haven't seen anything on it that made me say, "Oh my God, no way the 360 could do that". Still, it's the best PS3 game out there right now, and provides some solice to the brave early PS3 adopters.
Reason 3: Blu Ray Movies - This has an awful lot to do with whether or not you have a top of the line HDTV to see these on. If you do, then Blu Ray is actually pretty damn compelling. When I first put in Talladega Nights, on the DVD menu is an option for previews, I clicked on that, and a clip of upcoming Blu Ray movies started playing, and let me tell you...I was pretty blown away by the picture quality. Blu Ray started off kinda shaky, with HD-DVD looking quite a bit better, but it appears that Sony has figured out that Mpeg2 was a poor choice as a video codec, cause judging from that preview clip, Blu Ray and HD-DVD are neck 'n neck with picture quality. Sure the PS3 is a video game machine, and we should be takling about it from a video gaming standpoint, but for early adopters, the built in Blu Ray capability should be seen as a plus. Might as well take full advantage of it.
Now, the reason that I mentioned March 2007, is because I think that is going to be the first month when it might actually be worth it to own a PS3. Games like Motorstorm, Lair, Warhawk, Heavenly Sword and others will be starting to show up at retail. Right now, it's a one horse pony with Resistance, and a bunch of 3rd party games that run, play and look better on the 360 currently. Also, when we get into 2008 and 2009, I'm thinking the power of the PS3 will start to show up, and we will see some video game experiences that are totally mind blowing, and it will really start to show that it's quite a bit more advanced than the Xbox 360, but admittedly, 2008 and 2009 is a long time away.

Anthony1, I definately agree with everything you said about the PS3. I don't actually own one at the moment, but I think you pretty much got it down. Xbox 360 will look like a better choice right now because of everything that is available for it right now. Within' the next year or two (especially when they release FF13) is when we'll all see some crazy stuff. I just want to see what kinds of PSP connectivity stuff they are going to offer.

I have mine.
Resistance is fun. Genji is meh. Ridge Racer 7 is more of the same.
I'm quite happy I own one, but right now, there's just not much to play.

Yeah, for anybody that remembers the launch of the Nintendo 64, from a software drought standpoint, I think the early months of the PS3 are going to be very similar. A whole lotta waiting and waiting for something to come out. March can't get here soon enough!

well tobe honest I wouldnt of touched the 360 till at least the last month or so,
its taken 12 months for games to come out that are worth actually owning the
console for, it will be interesting to see how thick and fast sony can get some
software out for it.
Some times it is good to be a Pal gamer, by the time it launches here in march
there will be games to play and consoles to buy :)

No reason to get a PS3 until MGS4.
right now the Xbox360 has it going on and I would rather have a Wii than a PS3 anyway.

Waiting for all the bugs to clear out before I get one. Besides I just bought a 1080p 40"HDTV 2 days ago. Damn this thing is nice.

I don't actually have a PS3, but I think it is almost ridiculous that game stores and the like even waste space for PS3 game sections at this point. It's not like they're going to have customers milling around buying games with no consoles in site.

Sorry. From Slashdot (http://games.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=06/10/06/1653216):
Eurogamer reports on comments by SCE Worldwide Europe VP Jamie MacDonald almost designed to irk anyone left frustrated by Sony's delay of the PS3 in Europe. According to Mr. MacDonald, Europe has always waited before, so why should this time be any different?
From the article: "In Europe, it doesn't seem that the release of our platforms after the US and Japan - in the long run - affects how consumers feel ... If we were sitting here in five years' time, I don't think we'd really think about or notice that PlayStation 3 was four or five months later in Europe. I think in the long run, PlayStation 3 will succeed because of the great product it is and the great software we make for it."

Ah ok. Hehe well, for me it doesnt really bother me that its some months delayed. I will get a PS3, but i will have to wait for months for the pricedrop anyway. I think i waited about a year after launch before i got the PS2 so to me its not really a big problem with the delay :)
However, if it got out earlier they pricedrop might have happend earlier too. Dont know how it works, if they drop price after X months of time or if they drop it if sales are going slow. Like the Xbox dropped in price seriously fast (atleast here) to compete with PS2. Im not super excited about the PS3 either so the wait is fairly easy, but im clearly looking forward to it.
