Attempted to camp for a ps3 3 days ahead of time but decided not to when there were already 20+ ppl in line at the best buy I wanted to go to.

I camped out for exactly 24 hours for a wii on launch day, worth every second.

Haha, yeah. He was willing to put in the time for a game system he was really excited about, waited, and left the store with exactly what he came for. What a loser!

I waited outside a Best Buy for about 9 hours with a bunch of other gamers like me, young and old, all good people. We talked about video games old and new, and how exciting this system was that we were waiting in line for, all the while just trying to keep warm. It was a great experience, and I wouldn't trade it for anything.

Guess that makes me just a sucker too, then.

I didn't camp for anything but then I don't have either of those systems. I sure was tempted to get a Wii though.

I camped out for a Wii at the local Wal-Mart. I wasn't going to go, I just planned on getting there first thing in the morning to pick one up, but me and some others decided to head over at around 11:30. They only had 21 systems and I think there was around 40 people there by the time the store opened, so I would've been shit out of luck if I didn't camp. It was freezing out, but all the other campers were cool, and it was definitely an interesting experience. I've never bought a console at launch before, let alone camped out for one.

I didn't camp or pre-order for either....

I don't have the $ for a PS3 right now, so when I have the $ they will be readily available....

For my Wii, my parents got it for me for my birthday as a surprise....they went into EB on launch day without a pre-order and pick one up.....no trouble at all......they couldn't find Zelda though, but I found it at Toy's R Us....

I had a friend at work camp for a PS3, and he got to his target early early thursday morning for it.

I camped out for a Wii. That is if you call showing up at 3am and walking out of the store with it 5 hours later camping. I was #17 in my line (of 39) at Target and had a good time waiting, minus the snow. The snow was not nice, but otherwise it wasn't too bad of a time. Target had their shit together and it was super easy once we were inside, no mess no fuss and we had our systems, games and everything we wanted/needed in minutes.

I waited outside in the cold for the Wii starting around 2am. DP was down for me to share my story so I'll post it now.

Ok here is my Wii story. Got over to Wisconsin around 5pm on Saturday, Kamino had already been drinking with my folks. So we ate dinner and went out to scout the stores to see if there were any lines.

Went to a 24hr Walmart, it was completely full in the garden center. Kamino and Trevor decided to heckle the people waiting. So we left and drove over to Bestbuy and Target, to my surprise nobody was waiting. It was about 7pm on Saturday.

I decided it would be a good idea to go to a party for one my parents folks were Kamino decided to get trashed. One of my kids got sick so I had to clean that up, kamino continued to drink.

Finally left the party, went back to the house decied that Bestbuy was going to be the place to go at 2am. We played GH2 until around 10ish when I decided to get a little sleep. Keep in mind Kamino had been drinking this whole time.

So my alarm goes off at about 2, I get dressed and to my surprise my brother hadn't even gone to sleep. He was going on 26hrs straight without sleep. I went downstairs to wake kamino up, did so by flipping on all the lights. Kamino woke up and proceded to start puking. But the trooper that he is he came along even though he didn't have any money to buy the we.

So we get to Bestbuy around 2:30 and there are 19 people there already, turned out that they were only getting 24 systems. The 1st person in line was actually a BB employee that got off work at 7 and started the line @ 7:30. He recorded everyones names so that way he could relay how many people were in line to the employees on duty.

Shortly after we got there we noticed a Nissan Skyline in the parking lot (right hand drive import, UBER RARE) and started asking who owned it. Met the person, John, who turned out to be a game collector as well. Talked to him most of the night , got a ride in the skyline and now have a connection to get mine OWN skyline next spring WOOT!!!.

Around 4:30 we heard that Best buy was out of extra controllers so John and I went to Walmart to get blankets (it was 20 degrees) and Wii-motes. They still had 4 of them but none of the retro controller so I will be getting that tomorrow (hopefully).

Finally 8am came around and they handed out the tickets to guarentee the WII for myself , john and my brother. We then decided to go to BK to pick up the KING games. (kick ass). Went back to Bestbuy at 9, got the system, Zelda, Rayman and Tony Hawk downhill as well DOA Extreme 2 for the 360. In the end I got a NEW friend and had a great time though it was a little bit cold.

Once we got back to the house we showered and went up to the packers game (yeah they GOT SMOKED). I myself was going on 3 hrs of sleep in two days so I was trying my best to just keep going. Kamino ended up going home right about the time we headed off for the game. It was beautiful out but the game sucked (if you are a packer fan). So went back to my parents house and got the stuff packed headed for Minnesota.

I dunno if you'd call what I did camping out, but I did wait in two lines.

The first was at a rural wal-mart about 45 minutes from my house. It's the closest 24hr one to me, and I figured I'd have a shot. I got there at around 6PM and was 33rd in line. Word on the line was that they'd have only 31 systems. I really enjoyed talking to the people around me, the kids in front of me were young and excited, and their dad was waiting in the car even though he worked early the next day.

One schmoe was selling his spot but wanted $120 for it and immediately went home to put his Wii on eBay. He was 8th in line. Many times I considered starting a fight with him so that both he and I would be removed from the premises and those kids would get their Wii, but I guess I just wasn't that much of a martyr.

Despite the store being 24hrs, they made us wait outside, due to the previous rambunciousness of the PS3 crowd. It was mighty cold, but worth it just for the conversation really. So we waited and we waited, hoping for someone ahead of us to either die or have their credit card declined.

The kids in front of me surprised me telling me how much they loved the NES and how excited they were for the virtual console, and they finally let us in around 11:30. This was the point when the line really started to grow(until around 10, I was the end, but once we moved inside, there were at least 50 others behind me.).

We hoped and hoped, but no one was turned away. One girl put hers on layaway. They carried it to the back of the store. I begged and pleaded with the store manager that he give it to those kids, and replace it in the layaway area as soon as a new shipment comes, but he told me he was unable to. It was a bummer. They did pick up Zelda, though, so all wasn't lost.

I got a wii-mote and a classic controller, and then called up some of my friends. They'd scored theirs at midnight(all three of them, bastards with pre-orders), so I headed over to one of their houses. They'd gotten it hooked up JUST as I arrived, and we all dove into doubles tennis. We played from about 1AM til 5AM, which is when I headed to the local Target. This is also about the time it started snowing.

The Target line yielded some quite annoying yet quite forgettable characters, and was nowhere near the experience of the wal-mart line. I did pick up a second nunchuk, and was 32nd in line when they had 69 systems. I went home and played, and sometime around 10AM I must have gone to sleep. My fiancee came downstairs around 1pm and found me sleeping on the couch with the wii-mote dangling from my wrist.

I'm not sure if the kids got one yet, I kept in touch with their dad for a few days, but it's been awhile since I heard from him. Maybe I'll give him a call tomorrow.

Something else worth noting: around 9:30, I decided I needed some grub, so I headed to the Subway inside the Wal-Mart. To my surprise, this subway served PIZZA. And it was delicious. And good for keeping my lap warm as I ate it piece by piece.

the end.

egg: tl;dr with a vengance.

Paragraph breaks, please! But I do approve of the second post for demonstrating an absurdist sense of humor. I like that, always.

I camped for PS3 preorders twice, once for GameStop/EB and the other for Toys R' Us. Camped out 4 hours for a Wii on launch day.

I camped eight hours for the Wii. I was number 32 in line for the 63 systems they had. We ordered pizza to the curb, and played DS. The sense of community was astounding. Everyone in line was nice and genial. After awhile, the line morphed into a big crowd of people, and no one worried about keeping their places. Everyone knew where they belonged, and we were all friends, united by a love for video games. Someone brought a portable DVD player and showed movies. It was, overall, the best camping out experience I've ever had.

My buddy at Microplay gave me a call on saturday night to let me know they had them in stock.

I rolled in past the crowd of people and simply picked it up and paid for it, it wasnt even a preorder.

BEAT THAT!!

I didn't camp, but my buddy did for PS3. I went out there to keep him company and make sure he didn't get shot "bunch of creepy asian dudes in large packs hanging around there." So i went to the booze store and poured some vodka inside some 20oz Mt. Dews. I brought them back for me and my friend as we got cocked right in front of cops without them noticing. Funny part was i even asked one of the cops after drinking and asked him where i could go to take a leak. That was freakin' awesome.
