Can anyone give any reccomendations for a PS2 air combat game? I am preferably looking for a WWII game with very realistic gameplay, but any era game will be good. If you like more than 1 game I'd like to know as well. Any help would be appreciated. Thanx.

Ace Combat 5 is one of my favorites.

The Ace Comabt series is a good one. Is Blazing Angels on the PS2? Thats about the only WWII shooter I can even think of.

I know of Pacific Warriors II, which is crap, and Heroes of the Pacific, which is not that bad, although I've only played the Xbox version. I wouldn't expect realistic gameplay for a air combat game on a console though.

I am not looking for 100 % realism. I just dont want a shoot at will game with unlimited ammo and no strategy.

Everyone says Ace Combat when they talk PS2 flight games, but Air Combat Academy is my favorite. You start out the game learning different types of maneuvers in different types of aircraft. Even some helicopter action throw in too. It's more of a sim game but there is action in it too. Made by Sega, so you know it's gonna be good.

I really like Sky Odyssey too. The graphics are *very* 1st Gen PS2 and kinda ugly, but it's still a pretty flight game.

Ace Combat 4,5 & Zero are good. Also try out Heroes of the Pacific. Its a WW2 era flight game. Also it's online.

I've been looking at the Ace Combat games for a good while now and with those suggestions I may be tempted to at least pick one of those up.

He stated "with very realistic gameplay". I think that easily disqualifies your suggestion.

Other than the Ace Combat series and Air Combat Acadmey (good luck finding one) the launch title Sky Oddysey would be right up your alley.

Shit, I was going crazy trying to figure out how I'd never heard of it before (considering it's a Sega game on PS2 :( ), but it turns out it's "Aero Elite: Combat Academy"

I think I know of one or two places locally that have it, so I'll probably try to pick it up this weekend. Someone recommended it in another thread (one of those "Rare/Uncommon PS2 Games" threads) and this thread only solidifies my desire to pick it up and have some fun.

Thanx for all the suggestions, it definitely gives me some good ideas. Keep them coming if you have any I'd like to hear about as many as possible.

Ugh. Sorry, about that. I don't know why I said Air Academy. Must have been confusing it with Pilot Academy for the PSP and the old Air Combat game for PS1. Man, all these console flight games sound the same.

Yeah, it's Aero Elite and it's a really good game. Definitely the most sim of all the console flight games I've ever played. None of this arcadey combat crap either. I hear it works perfectly with the Hori Ace Combat flight stick but I haven't tested it out with mine yet so I don't know for sure. My only complaint with AE is that ground/building textures look like crap, so when you fly close to them, they'll look all chunky and pixelated. Other than that though, the game is awesome.

Also might wanna check out Lethal Skies II and Air Force Delta Strike. And if you can play imports on your PS2, check out Jet De Go! series. The games are 100% sim so they won't be fore everyone, but they are a blast to play with that huge flight yoke controller.

Rebel Raiders. This is one of those games that should be absolutely terrible. Actually, I reviewed it as such:

However, for all its flaws, I ended up playing all the way through it. It's a budget title and it should be, but it's at least worth a rental.

I also second any of the Air Force Deltas. They end up BRUTAL in the later stages every time, but I managed to play through each game in the series since the Dreamcast version except for the PS2 one.
