Didn't quite know where to put this, but I figured this was a good a place as any (especially when you consider the last Splatterhouse game was released in 1993).
There is a new fan-made Splatterhouse RPG that was recently released for download. Seeing as how there are a few Splatterhouse fans here, I thought that they (and the rest of you) might like to check it out.
According to 5thman, the game's creator, it was created using RPG Maker 2003 and it is 100% complete. Also, as he put it, "You don't have an elaborate storyline or level-gaining arc or anything like that. It's mostly a big puzzle with a billion opportunities to die. Sometimes pretty amusingly. If you know where everything is it's probably beatable within an hour." Also, it's "...like Shadowgate with lots of fighting, running, and screaming." I've played it myself and that's a pretty dead-on description.
If anyone is interested in checking it out, here's the link to the official site: http://splat2k3.illmosis.net/, and it is also available on West Mansion.
Here are some screenshot samples:

Maybe a dumb question but... how would you play this? Would you need some kind of emulator? I'm not familiar with the RPG Maker games at all.

In this case, just download it, unzip it, read the .txt file and install it, then fire it up. I'd never used anything even remotely associated with RPG Maker before this, and I had no problems getting it to run at all.

It's 100% complete, and waiting to be downloaded right now. :D Check it out!

In that case, let me show you some screenshots from another fan project that is still being worked on, using the Beats of Rage program, entitled Splatterhouse: The Mask Covenant. There's no completion date on this one yet, but as you can see it's pretty far along:

I downloaded it, I played it, and I gotta say, I love it man. This is pretty sweet. It really captures the feel of the game. My only problem, is this is pretty tough. How do I get more health items? I wandered around for a good hour and didn't get anything after killing some enemies

Thanks for the input so far, guys. I'll be sure to pass your comments and such along to 5thman, the game's creator (or you can email him yourself about it at 5thman@cox.net). A little bit of backstory here: he originally was working on the game for West Mansion, but due to our lack of ability to update the damn site, he had nowhere to send it. So I got him in touch with some people through my own board, one agreed to host it for him and create the website (PrimeOp, overall cool guy and excellent artist), and here we are. I'm doing my best to spread the word about it, which I'd ordinarily have done through WM, but hey.
Anyway, he had this to say recently:
I've put together a Tips and Tricks handbook for anyone who wants to go into it better prepared rather than discovering everything on their own. It doesn't tell you step-by-step how to beat it, but it's a pretty nice pre-game briefing. I'll probably have Prime0p post it on the site when it's polished up.
It entails:
- More general gameplay tips and tactics.
- Descriptions of certain status effects.
- Descriptions of notable items: how they work, or where to find them.
- Little tidbits on Rick's friends.
- The three species of monsters
- Which monsters tend to drop items
- Notes on some particularly difficult creatures and bosses
Nothing on the Evil One, though. You're all pretty much effed there.
Nothing on getting health items, though. I'll ask him about that.

I have to admit, I'm not sure. But if that's where his site was, then that doesn't leave me much hope for the future of The Mask Covenant.

Sorry about the revival, but I need help. If anyone here has played Splatterhouse: 2k3 and would like to write up a short review of it for West Mansion (for the upcoming 2k3 page), please do! Just post your review here or send it to me at axelay@ureach.com, and I'll gladly add it to the site credited to you.
Thanks in advance!

Thanks for reviving this thread, somehow I missed it earlier. Wow, I'm jacked about all these Splatterhouse fan projects! Splatterhouse is such a unique and cool franchise. I have the coin-op (I'm still searching for a proper marquee and any side art...) and the TGX-16 and Genny ports.
Any word on the progress of Splatterhouse: The Mask Covenant?

The Mask Covenant I've heard no new news about since 2005, and that dead link up there doesn't bode well. :(
However, a new and updated version of 2k3 has been uploaded to the official site! I'll be posting info about it on WM in just a little bit.
Still need reviews for it too, so if you want to do one, please do!

BUMP.
There is a new Splatterhouse fangame in the works, one that I personally am involved in the creation of (as is 5thman, creator of the Splatterhouse: 2k3 RPG). I don't want to give away any details at the moment, but I would like to make a request: is there anyone here who might be interested in helping out with this?
Currently we need help with sprites, backgrounds and music. Anyone here have any experience in those areas?
Any other help would be appreciated as well!

*another bump*
Just wanted to give you guys a sneak preview of another fangame that's currently complete, but is about to undergo some serious testing by myself and a few other people, for the purposes of making sure everything works on different computers (keeping an eye out for crashes and other screwiness). It was created by 5thman, who created the Splatterhouse 2k3 RPG I started this thread off with.

Look for more on it soon!
The fangame I mentioned before is still being worked on, although progress is rather slow at the moment. There's also a new Beats of Rage mod in the works entitled Evil Splatter... yes, an Evil Dead/Splatterhouse crossover. I hope to have more on that one soon as well.

The Splatterhouse Project (what I was calling the fangame I was working on) is DOA. I just got a message from the main programmer of the game, and it wasn't good. Someone broke into his house recently and stole EVERYTHING. Needless to say, his PC is among the missing.
I have both betas, which I may post at some point. Who knows, maybe someone else will come along and pick the game back up?
But until that happens, if it ever does, The Splatterhouse Project is dead. Sorry, everyone.
Also: there have been issues with the 3D fangame I posted the pics of above. The current release date on it is TBD.

I guess the joke's on me. LOL
edit: I just got to try out the WIP ROM. Not bad at all so far; pressing up makes Rick jump, pressing the button makes him punch/slash/whatever. So far, it's just Rick vs. a never ending supply of red zombies (no sound effects either), but undoubtedly that'll change.

Some new news: The Splatterhouse 2600 game is moving along nicely. Last I heard, bats had been added to the game, as well as the pace having been slowed down a bit to match the earlier games.
I have also received word about a Flash Splatterhouse game being developed by StringAnime.com - I know it's not exactly a traditional console type of title, but the trailer for it is just too damned cool to not post here:

Hey everybody! Those of you who downloaded Splatterhouse 3D parts 1 and 2 will want to download them again--both have been seriously upgraded to make player movement and combat mechanics smoother and more sophisticated. Rick doesn't get stuck in doorways or on walls and his weapons are no longer hitscan-based. AND Part 2 has a new weapon added to the mix!
In short, both games are now more tolerable. So go check 'em out!
